One Kraftwerk wish: POCKET CALCULATOR
-
Thank you for the answers. I hope you allow somebody to port it to MSX and I hope that there will be somebody willing to port it. And I hope that you allow somebody to make a MSX cartridge after that. Yes, I have lots of hopes.... Background and sprites do look really fantastic!

WOW! I was expecting something much simpler sound as you said "so no real complex notes and effects, but it's close enough for me to the original music.". But anyway I would have liked it simpler too! I REALLY wish that MSX composers would like to arrange old recorded songs and Commodore/Atari game musics for AY-chip, and not just what they do all the time: rearranging every japanese msx/nes/whatever game tune again and again in billionth time for MSX-MUSIC/MOONBLASTER and NEVER do nothing else..... But luckily there are arrangers on other machines with AY or same like chip who will produce good ol´ music!! THANK YOU!! And thank you a lot for your previous arrangements too! PLEASE continue your good work!!! I wish so much I could play them someday on my dear MSX.

Looks Great! I just watched nintendo video to compare original to your great looking mock-ups, so I will ask you that will it have flip-screen or "eight pixel scrolling"? I would say we MSX´ers would be interested about MSX port!

With MSX experience, it is weird and strange (and sad) indeed to read about your problems with floppy drives. When my first PC was in working condition, I used it´s 3,5" drive to save MSX games and utilities to 3,5" diskette and then put diskette straight to MSX floppy drive and programs worked without any problems (minus some problems with few games). After that PC died, my laptop of course didn´t have floppy drive, so I bought brand new 3,5" USB floppy drive in 2008 or 2009, inserted diskette in it, inserted drive´s cable into my laptop, and then just saved MSX files to diskette or loaded something from diskette into PC. And that´s it. No problems! Must say that Microsoft stuff has some REAL use, even nowadays.

Hello Intellivision fans! I had to write this as you made me laugh!!!!! Sure, MSX SCREEN 1 screenmode *LOOKS* similar to Sinclair ZX Spectrum, IF sprites and possibility to cheat MSX thinking it uses SCREEN 2 colours and different hardware are not counted. (Yeah, both computers do share a Z80A, but otherwise....) Yeah, Commodore 64 too is similar to ZX Spectrum then. I just had to write these lines, as it is possible, that someone without MSX knowledge may really believe it is true....... Kind Regards, MäSäXi

Nice logo indeed, but if you ask me, it doesn´t look egyptian-like at all! (and Tutankham was egyptian) It looks much more like native South-American stuff.

Just to mention, that MSX has another old VDP project too.. http://www.msx.org/VSU-news.newspost4862.html Probably there is newer information somewhere too. And two (though quite different ones) which are NOT projects anymore. ( unless you call it a project if a latter one doesn´t have it´s box ready yet... ) Franky http://supersoniqs.com/2009/06/29/hello-world/ and Playsoniq http://supersoniqs.com/2010/06/20/supersoniqs-announces-playsoniq/ Greetings, MäSäXi, the soon-to-be-happy-playsoniq-owner

Choose which MSX games you would like to see ported for the CV
mäsäxi replied to opcode's topic in Opcode Games
Just wanted to say, that MSX´s Livingstone I Presume is not a Spectrum port, but a game with good colourful graphics (including multicolour sprites) and sound. (though Spectrum version is above average graphically) Check here: MSX http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/2253 Spectrum: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseek.cgi?regexp=Livingstone%2c+I+Presume&loadpics=1 Livingstone has nice features (=objects that can be used, like pole for pole vaulting in the jungle!) that not every other games have. -
MSX to Coleco.... I really hope there could be Coleco to MSX ports too!! (and not just in my dreams.....) There are many original 1980s games, homebrew games and "coming soon" games and "maybe" games which I would gladly buy for my MSX-1. If just someone kind soul could port them.... .....there surely are many MSX cartridge makers who are willing to make them to a cartridge form!! I wish to have opcode´s Donkey Kong arcade + All Coleco´s Donkey Kong conversions (including Adam one) on same cartridge! .....and Wizard of Wor.... and many others....! Colecofan1981, Vampire Killer is MSX2 megacartridge game, by the way....

Yeah, it really looks like an old Amiga demo.

Hello, just wanted to say, that A.E. actually has nice little twist in it, as you have to aim your shot, by pressing fire button. Longer you press, longer your shot will fly. That separates A.E. from most shooters. At least on MSX version the graphics were bit simplistics but I enjoyed the game years ago. Enemies had different path in every new screen. And they used background as a hiding places, like flying into caves to disappear, and then appear from another cave little later.

5th screen Prototype for Donkey Kong Junior ADAM
mäsäxi replied to ed1475's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
That prototype just looks and sounds and plays Fantastic!! I really hope that all homebrewers who wanna make platform game (on any old system) would take a peek to old classic games for ideas!! I always thought Konami staff as bastards, as they released one game as several cartridges. On MSX, Track&Field was halved to two cartridges: Track&Field 1 and Track&Field 2, Hyper Sports was put into THREE cartridges!! Though I understand that it was partly because high cost of memory, but still it felt very unfair in the eighties. Coleco went even further by publishing same game many times by just adding one screen more so they could call it as a "new" game.... ...and then doing it again.... and again.... -
OpcodeGames Shouldn't Leave Us Homebrewers

Thank you, Pixelboy. I read first half of that thread, and can just say SHIT THING! -
OpcodeGames Shouldn't Leave Us Homebrewers
mäsäxi replied to ColecoFan1981's topic in ColecoVision Programming
Can I ask, what´s this all about? Why opcode is leaving? -
Hello! I am thinking same way about homebrew box art as topic starter, generally, about every OLD videogame and computer system, not just atari. I think this is not just mimicking artwork from particular company but mimicking artwork STYLE from certain era (1970s and early 1980s). I understand that not everybody has learned the way to draw the way certain artist drew forty or more years ago, that is understandable. And not everybody wants to draw/learn to draw such way. Of course everyone can make box art of their own taste, but still, I hope to see more OLD style game box art for every old system which still gets new games. I am just that OLD. And I like OLD things. And OLD music. Old things were part of my childhood, that´s why I like them. And there´s no need to say that this modern world and modern art styles are not for me, but I said it. That´s why I like OLD. Like many others. ( Hopefully my words were helpful! )

It was nice to see finnish flag in your title screen. Country selection... maybe ships can have historical names? (one name per country) When thinking OLD computer games, it was nice to just see flag and/or name of your own country, even there wasn´t any other difference. When thinking newer games, like "The Games" series from Epyx and other companies which made olympic games games, there was no difference, you just could select your own country (if it was in the list), but that was great thing even I remember Finland was really NOT listed in every olympic game in the past. When adding country selection, then you have to do bit of historical reading (or ask somebody) to give each country realistic enemies. Like thinking nazis, depending on the country, they were considered as "friends" or "enemy". In finnish Jatkosota (translated as Continuation War) in the forties, Germany was actually considered as both.

Hello. Just read this topic and what came to my mind, was that I still remember HOW MANY pong clones were in the market in pong´s golden age. I don´t know if atari or ralph baer sued any pirating company. (just try to count how many there were).... if they did or not, there existed lots of pong clones from numerous manufacturers around the world anyway. Plus all different console versions from same manufacturer. but of course atari´s current copyright holder has the right to stop you giving away/selling your pong clone, even if atari didn´t do that in the seventies.

I thank you sometimes! I have never heard of such game. Those bats´ colour blocks looked like Commodore 64 style, but I wasn´t sure. I guess this is some homemade game, since graphics doesn´t look/feel like they did in Alligata´s Blagger, or should I say graphics doesn´t have Alligata look, me thinks. But I like those graphics. I will try to find that game to test it, someday.

Matthew´s classic99 help solved my problem. But I want to thank everyone for lending helping hand! By the way, so classic99 has the most perfect ti-99/4a sound emulation? If that´s the case, then it sounds very much like MSX. So that "soft" sound was just some incorrectness of win994a?
-
Good looking fonts. Also, I wanna know about screenshot in post #23 in this topic, which game on which machine?
-
Eh, I can´t try DIG DUG on Classic99, as it has "built-in" games I am just average user, don´t have knowledge for putting more cartridge roms into classic99.
-
Hello again! I have watched TI-99/4A game screenshots for years, but I tried those marvellous games just a little while ago for the very first time. But my problem is, that DIG DUG hangs soon, I may be able to play to second or third screen (if I am lucky...) but then fire button ("Q"-key) starts to hang/pause the game instead of firing air-hose. Air-hose won´t appear at all, that "pause" goes off when I press "Q" again, but air-hose won´t appear any more, and it causes quick death every time, as I am defenseless against pookas and fygars. And no, it is not because I am standing too closely to the walls, it happens on fully open digged tunnel. And it seems that it happens (always?) when I am facing UPwards. Also, usually after few "pauses" (when pressing "Q" to fire) game completely hangs, sound plays "one note" and after a while windows closes win994a. Though sometimes Dig Dug just dies and gets another try on another life. But after that, game may completely hang, like described. Oh, I have Vista on my PC. I have played DIG DUG ****A LOT**** on win994a emulator in these few days, despite that very irritating sad problem. I like this TI-99/4A DIG DUG more than Namcot´s own MSX conversion, as TI has really neat looking multicolour DIGDUG! And, to my surprise, TI-99/4A sound is softer than MSX´s GI-AY-3-8910. (or at least on emulator played thru PC speakers) I like VERY MUCH that soft sound!!!!!!!!! Oh, that DIG DUG music has one glitch, it plays two channels and noise channel normally, but also there can be heard VERY high pitched tone all the time during play. I guess it is because either bad ROM dump or emulator bug? So, I hope someone there could help me. If it is bad cartridge dump, I really don´t have anymore time to search other DIG DUG version. Same about finding some other TI-99/4A emulator. (at least without any help and suggestions) I am doomed to be too busy. This cartridge version was found from some site and it was Zipped on one package along MANY MANY MANY other TI-99/4A cartridges. Thank you already for any help! -MäSäXi 2=)

I was expecting this and I was expecting that nobody knows real differences (except little graphical differences). That´s why I was suggesting graphical hack to be made = finish homebrew, and then make graphical hack from it, and voilá! You can have "two" games on same cartridge! Of course that graphical hack will behave exactly same as homebrew/colecovision one, but at least it will LOOK like TI original did. Of course, if anyone can get chance to play .ROM dump of TI original, then that may give hints what it is like, to make "original version" behaving at least somewhat like original one. So, no need to get .ROM dump of original from author, if you make a hack. Of course it will not be a original, but... you know what I mean.
-
How about doing "original version" too and adding it to same cartridge? As that ultra-rare EXISTS (even no-one has it, okay, one person in the world has it) I think it should be existing on this homebrew cartridge too! What I mean is, that you could have TWO games on same cartridge then! Once you have your homebrew one finished, you just have to make very little amount of "extra" graphics (different player head, and some little details somewhere) and make a way to activate "original version" too. Ok, I have no idea, if original version had some difference in gameplay and player control, but anyway, by just adding right graphics, you have the game, which really (at least) looks like original one! So, two choices: 1) game could start on your homebrew mode, but if you press some key(s) on booting, "original version" starts instead (this idea is used on some MSX homebrews/ports to give you something special) 2) just make little MENU which auto-starts when cartridge is inserted, one key gives homebrew, another key gives original. It just feels, that it is a shame to not put "original version" on same cartridge, if it is as easy as what I just described. "Just my thought"...
