I just watched the gameplay on the zeropage stream. Such an original game! good job
-
i like it! is it based on an existing card game?
-
what a conversion! NES original is probably my favourite game of all time, and you have done a magnificent job translating it to 2600. If this ever gets released with a world map (like the original was) it would be a must buy. If it ever gets to the release stage and you have to change the name for obvious reasons, I once again suggest Legend of Stella, because that would just sound brilliant 😂 thanks for this, and can’t wait for a full version some time in the future.

Legacy versus ARM-based 2600 Game Development
mika15 replied to Thomas Jentzsch's topic in Atari 2600
I know i’m in extreme minority here, not being a techie person myself, so probably best if I leave this discussion to pros, but just wanted to point out the obvious fact that all the suggested category divisions above are very technical and rarely (if at all) acknowledge the typology (with maybe category of “ports” being a notable exception but that seems to also be very imprecise; just look at “Awakening” this year, whoever decided to classify it as port i’ll have what they’re having). From a player point of view Arcade/Action/Adventure/Puzzle/Sports game of the year probably makes more sense. But then, not only this would mean even more categories, even more disagreements where the game crosses the standard genre boundaries that I only mention it once as a side note, maybe to just point out that if one were to increase popularity of the awards at all, maybe the technical issues are not even that important for the “general public”, whoever that may be. Personally I think that the format this year was actually spot on. -

My stance is we should celebrate the fact that after 40+ years we are actually able to enjoy/participate in Atari awards ceremony, and inevitable development of technology means that the games are evolving - and from what I have seen when playing through nominated games it is actually for better, co-processing power or not. -

and for me, and probably any other 80’s kids it was - if I could imagine hypothetical Atari game awards in 1980’s i’m pretty sure that Pitfall or supercharger games would not have a separate category. We were in a way voting (with our parents hard earned money) in just one category - games for our Ataris. I know this topic is not only about the awards, but simply looking from that perspective we can either treat them as tech guys awards, or consumer/end user awards. It’s a very specific subset of forum, and I do understand lots of you guys are techy types, but somehow - and I don’t even know how to explain this - it makes more sense to me as a casual player to just appreciate game mechanics, game design and playability. I know about ARM, and I still voted for RobotWar and would still vote for it even if Champ Games squeezed a supercomputer inside that cart. (I would probably draw the line if he hid a projector in that shell though!) -

i think the problem here is that we will never agree on anything, because not everyone will share the same definition of “traditional”. Was Pitfall II traditional? -

also, I don’t think it would further encourage voters, if we were to choose 20 different 2600 games of the year, purely because of number of extra categories. It’s perfect as it is, and even now only a smallest fraction of atari age members is voting -
We have played the nominated games with my daughter today, and although we now have two clear favourites I am impressed by all of them, (and although she is more of a fortnite generation player she was positively surprised by most of them too!) it’s very amateurish quality, but if you want to see a younger generation of players coupled with very bad gamer attempting to figure out the complexity of original Atari homebrew games please have a laugh at us here: www.twitch.tv/videos/1289163327 Just a little warning, as we are both epileptic - we sadly couldn’t play Runes of Moria here, and RubyQ in the port category, so just be aware that you may experience some headache and dizziness with these two if you suffer from a similar condition. Great job everyone, happy to see the games for 2600 just getting better and better

Grizzards — turn-based RPG (completed)
mika15 replied to Bruce-Robert Pocock's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Just a thought after watching the video above. always a matter of personal preference, but I actually like the flat colour monsters from demo version more - they look more stylish and give a good design vibe. Multicolour gradient in my opinion doesn’t fit the style of the screen and is bit inconsistent with the look of the game. Otherwise sprites are fantastic, my favourites are Vorpal bunny and Lacoste grizzard, but also like the grizzard handler. -
thanks for the reply. I guess I know the answer, but is there any option to order one boxed cartridge privately? Just afraid that by the time UK shipments will be open again, it will be out of stock or waiting for the restock - or that it will in fact take forever for the VAT registration to be approved. Really want that Deepstone Catacomb ?
