Congrats on your pickup!! What is your history with Atari or 80's computing?

Old labels that are not properly adhered to the disk jacket will tend to pop out and jam during the eject process.

I was fascinated with the 800 back in the late 70s as a kid.  We couldn't afford things like that, so I got to see/play with them at the local mall.  To this day, the Atari 800 reminds me of those times.  This 1050's problem is something to do with a hard part that's not working properly, I disassembled the drive and cleaned it, including the read head and it does work properly other than it doesn't eject a disk unless you fiddle with the mechanism.  It "hangs" I suppose would be the best term.   I think Luis's post may cover it, I'm going to give it a shot today.

  2. Hi,

I recently picked up an Atari 800, the 810 Interface, and a 1050 disk drive off Marketplace.

Super excited to say that after thoroughly cleaning everything - it all works, even though it hadn't been turned on since the 80s per the seller.

Here's where I could use some help.   The 1050 drive works, however the disk eject mechanism isn't functioning properly.  It will boot a disk just fine.   When I had it apart to clean the case and remove all the dust/dirt there wasn't anything obviously wrong with it.  I fiddled a little with the eject mechanism and got it to work, however it is again stuck.

Is there a set of common fixes or any suggestions?  Other than it won't push the disk out when you flip the drive lever open on the drive, everything works.

    Thanks! :)
