I have the same problem. Under the bios or AtariOS no way to configure the keyboard in AZERTY. Under Chrome (under AtariOS) I found to change the language in French but it does not change anything

There is no azerty keyboard support, nor is there a Chrome browser translation (and there certainly never will be).
Anyway, the more time goes by, the more the chances to see the console being taken into account for France decrease.
It's like many things about this console, it's disappointing.

What about secure boot?  One of my fears is that Atari releases an update that updates the bios, reenables Secure Boot and changes the password again?   Looks like according to this thread reFind won't work with Secure Boot?   But the refind docs do have some instructions on how to work with secure boot

I hope Atari will not make the mistake of blocking the bios with a new password. I think it would create a lot of disappointment in their community.

If they do this, they won't be able to counter Grub2 which is native to Ubuntu and therefore supported by Atari.

However, this would mean not being able to run Batocera anymore, which would be a tragedy for me, which is why I don't update my consoles anymore, I don't want to run that risk.

For my part I don't use the Atari OS anymore, I'm waiting for an alternative (which may never come) because as it is and to remain polite the VCS Dashboard is really "minimalist" and sticks to the announced specifications, not more :(

The more time passes and the more my disappointment grows

This will allow you to have a persistent root shell on the running Apertis system. It exploits the OverlayFS features to set a root and user password, and launch a backdoor root shell on port 4444.

Many thanks for these links and hats off to @ArcadeHustle. Bravo, even if I didn't really understand everything.
It still seems to smell pretty good ^^ for whoever wants to go digging into the guts of the beast.
I don't know the Apertis system, I don't know much about Linux either, but from what I've seen Apertis 2021 is a sort of "media-center" or on-board browser but it seems to handle audio and video?

I think it will speak to some people (or not) but now I'm dreaming of an equivalent of multiMAN (PS3) or even better XBMC (Xbox). So many good memories for the ones I have left.

  4. For others Atari platforms yes but I don't find for VCS 800 at moment. If you have seen it I'm interesting.

Only from UK and US, and for France delivery is 15$ shipping costs more by unit. A mug cost at final more than 25€ - 30€ for french peolple (with the risk to be broken).

I ask for pieces in three shops in Paris, only basics t-shirt with poor logo quality (I don't see original label on it) cost 35€

My mugs are perfects to take coffee every days ;) Not for sales.

    Cool! I'd love to get a t-shirt. :)

Customise by China, like mugs. Not official Atari brand.

I couldn't find a t-shirt for the VCS 800, so I used the logo on Wikipedia and had it printed in China.
The fabric and the flocking are ok, but not more.

If Atari can make official polo shirts (maybe it already exists for internals ?).

In France the VCS is totally unnoticed :( both on websites and in stores (in Paris for me).

No event, no communication, no advertisement, no display, only endless relaunch on the official FaceBook thread. No more/thing

So for lack of thrushes we eat blackbirds (I do not know if it is said in English).

Every time I tried to install windows on the VCS all I get is a black screen while the usb drive blinks rapidly. I don't know how to get the VCS to do anything else...

Make sure you are on a recent version 20H2 or 21H1, an official ISO. I already had the problems with the Enterprise 1809 LTSC and others unofficials versions.
I have encountered many black screens especially when testing on Android x86 distributions. I got out of it by changing my HDMI cable, for some reason I can't explain myself I have a cable that displays black screens on some distributions/versions and not others or loosing signal and back to screen multiple times..

I know, it doesn't make sense but for me it worked.

  7. I tried some distributions, Android-x86 Project, Phoenix OS, Bliss OS, but the WIFI card is not recognized, at best the wired card is used as Virtual Wifi. Apart from the fact that these systems seem to be very resource intensive and put a lot of strain on the console. The console was very noisy during my tests.

Finally I recently discovered an Android emulator that suits me (ad-free and customizable) Andy OS on Windows. For what I do with it, IPTV, music, and other apk it's very good.

Sure, it requires a registry tweak, I would not expect MS to include a setting to revert back to an older start menu anymore than I would expect them to include a simple toggle to go back to Window Millennium or Vista ?‍♂️ but at least it is doable, literally just a couple clicks on a prepared .reg file to either restore or remove the Windows 10 Start menu but at least it is an option.

Well, despite having used Linux (endless distros over the years and several installed currently on some older laptops I have about), MacOS and various classic OS through my lifetime I just don't relate to your views, never really had problems or complaints with the OS and use Windows by choice as my main desktop and laptop OS with the rest just things to dabble and play with, I am not forced to use Windows these days but I choose to. About the only time I would have considered myself forced to user Windows was when I was into the AMIGA and Workbench OS and believe me I was quite happy in that environment and stuck with it far longer than I probably should have, even during the early Windows era, no Windows 3.1, no 95 or 98 or even Windows 98SE, reluctantly and pretty much screaming and kicking I finally moved over to Windows out of necessity for work, compatibility with friends / families and colleagues etc. Finally over were my years of trying to explain Amiga/Workbench to anyone and everyone who just didn't "get it", as a Canadian it was even more obscure a platform here than in the U.S. and just shifting my use of it to the realm of hobby and fun pastime while I would use Windows for all my "real" computing needs and work etc. As much as I missed AMIGA/WORKBENCH and you know, fun and personality I didn't complain or whine or bitch and moan I just adapted, learned, figured out how to make Windows more to my liking and get on with it. But hate it? Eh, I hate the fact that Commodore perhaps blew their marketing and handling of what they had and mismanaged everything. Windows is king of home OS, at least as market share would prove, its the OS I know inside and out and have learned to bend to my will and honestly, with all the tweaks and customizing I've basically upgraded it to Ferrari status so much so that even using the same version of Windows on any other computer but my own, even hardware several levels of power specifications beyond mine just seems painful, slow, sluggish and quite frankly unorganized. If that is the type of thing others feel when using whatever version of Windows then I guess I can see what they are crying about but for myself, I don't waste time crying, I just do something about it and figure it out I guess ?

I am very interested in any improvements that could be made for performance gains on Windows 10&11.

We all share the same platform (except for some RAMs and M.2 cards) but major in commun

It would be interesting to see what specific changes to the VCS platform can be done to have an "optimized VCS hardware" Windows System.

Looks more like ChromeOS.  So there is that.

Gnome has always been sort of mac-like, but different (personally I think it's better, as there are design decisions with the way macOS works that just annoy me, and they are ones that have been around for a very long time from what I can tell (like finder)).  Windows 10 just has weird consistency issues.  I find it hilarious that they announced that the upcoming updates would finally fix and get rid of some of the duplication of things that Windows 10 has had since it was out... and then they announce that Windows 11 is a thing.  Thing is, the reason why they don't have to do the device drivers and such, is because this is still Windows 10, they're just updating UI elements.  Much like macOS 11 finally went beyond 10, so dropped macOS X and is now 11 (12?), Windows is just following for some reason...

I don't get the full bar at the bottom... I mean if you're going to squish where the icons are, make it like every other Dock out there.  Even KDE has scrunched the Dock up so it doesn't take the full bottom of the screen.  Also, when you are working on super ultra-wide monitors, it's literally just a giant waste of space.  At least gnome-shell has a very small bar at the top, and no sticky dock there.  Auto hiding the bar is possible, I hope, but even that usually irritates me because it takes a moment for it to come out from hiding and wants to shift things out of the way.  I much prefer how Gnome does it where it's hidden until using the hot corner or meta key.  Anyhow, I'm sure OpenShell will be updated to work with Windows 11 when it's released.

This is crazy! I was about to post this screenshot and I come across your message, huge coincidence. I let you judge by yourself :)

I completely agree with you, we lose a lot of space, which even becomes problematic with some applications in 1920x1080 at 150% for the characters (obliged to put them in full screen, or to automatically hide the taskbar for some applications).

As you can see on the picture, I also think that Microsoft would gain by making the Windows 11 taskbar transparent.

There's haters saying they don't like how 11 looks. Complaining it's too much like MAC OS. Ha! Maybe they should stop and think that MAC OS might actually look better than 10?

Tastes and colors are unique to each person, but it is true that there is a tendency to uniformity.
MacOS, Windows, and Gnome 40 which is close to it I think too. Personally I like it.
This surface makeover without much change in the background suits me well. I wouldn't have liked to wait 2 months for the development of new compatible drivers, or to have to change the device because it is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

Really for the moment, I am very favorably surprised :)

Ok, I'm an idiot, missed the part about taking the drive online.  Got it up now, but why so many multiple choices?

You have to try one by one choose good ones and mask those you don't need (Supp and confirm only mask)

Eatch one icons point to an .efi file or bootable Linux image

So now I'm running into an issue with using Disk Genius to copy the rEFInd files to the efi(1) & efi(2) partitions.

Do you need the paid version to copy?  I tried dragging the EFI folder to both partitions but nothing happens.  The partitions look like they are locked or something.

Does you eMMC isn't read only or offline ? It works with free version I just try

    Hey

If I install an M.2 ssd drive into the VCS can I install Win10 and still keep the VCS OS? I don't want to erase the original VCS setup juts have both

    Thanks

VCS OS is installed on eMMC (32GB) totally independent from M.2 slot

Windows is not supported on M.2 internal storage by Atari, but work great and faster from external USB disk
