I absolutely loved the second one in that trilogy (I played it way late, after a bunch of patches and downloadables and such)

I can't remember if I played that one or not lol. I know I played the first one that came out so I guess I need to download it and play it sometime, I heard a lot of other people saying the same thing.

  2. Dragon Age Inquisition - I got a new machine this year lost some saves so I figured I'd make another canon run in this, it's a slog fest but now I have a save in case Dragon Age 4 is any good.

Ziggurat - a Heretic clone, I thought it was pretty cool, I'm a fan of Heretic\Doom\Hexen and any 90’s style shooters.

Space Invaders Extreme – cool music

Platypus – quirky claymation “shmup” also released on PSP ages ago. Technically I didn't beat it but I can't get past the 2nd to final level. So I consider it beaten :P

It drives me nuts when RPGs with voice overs don't auto-advance. I love Dragon Quest 8 on PS2, but hate that their is no auto option.

    Yup or how about:

Cutscene plays for 5 minutes and ends....then you control your character for about 5 seconds to move across the room a few steps.....and another cutscene starts for another 5 minutes. smh

Another one I remember is walking 5-7 steps and automatically always getting a random encounter. Takes you 5 years and countless random battles to cross a pond to get to the other side. lol

I think a lot of those were old school JRPG's in the 90's, its improved (for the most part)  :P

  5. Trick & Treat...Just a small indie RPG maker game which is well done. It's almost Halloween so I took a timeout with this. Only takes a few hours if you use an achievement guide… and I still missed out on two of them but its an easy one to get 100% with the guide. To me these games are like “one shots”, perfect for whatever game you wanna take a break from that takes hundreds of hours to finish.

Too much of the game feels like it was inspired a bit too much by Uncharted 4's jeep levels and (kinda) God of War's boat stuff, when it's just transport for the sake of chewing scenery and listening to dialog.

Yeah the jeep levels and the boat in both games were......ehhhhh

The later part of the game starts throwing a crapload of the “same” boss over n’ over – like they ran out of ideas or something.  But that’s ok, mostly… they were simple, fun fights –  but at the end of each, there’s some horseshit quick time nonsense that just kills it for me.  I say I died 50+ times on those, with about a dozen “perfect” fights, no damage taken, but died because of the quicktime crap.

Well that's one title to cross off my list, I don't tolerate that kind of BS anymore. Thanks for not being afraid to be honest about a Nintendo title. Your not the only one by the way.

I'll go ahead and put in numbers so there in there and I don't forget.

    PS2

Suikoden V - 1140 min (Really an excellent Suikoden game.  This one is the most like Suikoden 1 and 2 on the PS1.  The story is really pretty good, too, with some twists and turns and some sad cutscenes.  No one who can really compare with Nanami for comedic value, though.  She is still one of my favorites from S2.  While Suikoden 1 - 4 were on the PS Store for PS3, 5 was not for some reason, so I'm having to emulate it.  The actual disc is just too expensive for me right now.  And I've been having this issue throughout the game where my character can only move in 8 directions (up, down, left, right and the diagonals) which makes running some places annoying because of instead of running straight down a hall for example, I have to zigzag.  That's annoying, but the game is still playable.  The real control problem is with the fishing mini-game.  You're in a boat that you can move around and the cast your line in any direction... except it won't let me move either my boat or the line.  So I'm stuck in one spot and only being able to cast the line directly in front of the boat... so instead of chasing down fish you can see on the map, I can only catch fish that swim into the circle right in front of the boat.  Not sure if this is something related to the 8-way only movement issue or something unrelated.  Regardless, I haven't found any solution.  Oh well.)

I beat all the Suikoden games, I thought the PS2 versions weren't as good as the first two on PS1 maybe because of the 3D but mostly the stories were meh but I agree they sort of made up for it with the fifth game. I can hardly remember it I remember having all these colored squirrels on the team for some reason maybe to get some special item or something. I remember grinding for stuff and the game was pretty long and quite difficult towards the end. The controls in all the PS2 games were always kind of clunky esp. the 4th game with that damn ship. Lol. I was planning on revisiting the PS2 games at some point, it's been a long time.

Awesome!  I loved this game on PC, and always a bit bummed that I couldn't play it properly.  I tried the PS1 version, but thought it kind of stunk.

And yeah, I wish we would have gotten more of this as well.  I played a couple of the 3D sequels, and they kinda bored me.

Heh, I think Tomb Raider and the whole 3D craze was in full effect in the late 90s. I could never get into any of the Soul Reaver games.

This one though was so hard to find on PC and yeah the PS1 version is pretty clunky. Looks like the reviews say GOG did a good job with this. I'll get it on the next holiday sale although 7 bucks ain't much.

  10. JRPG's: Played some Persona 4 last year and I was quickly reminded how awful it is to click “A” (or whatever button) to continue dialogue.

Ariel: “Hello Hawk, nice day!”  (press A)

Hawk: “Yeah I know it's a nice day yadda yadda yadda” (press A)

    Ariel:  ….  (press A)

    Hawk: "What?"  (press A)

    Ariel:  ….  (press A)

Luckily those guys were nice enough to put a toggle in the options menu to automatically continue conversations without having to hit a button.

Not sure this "ruins" JRPG's completely but....annoying.
