  1. That 'ghosting' around things that move drives me mad, I hate using the GBS because of it. Some people claim it doesn't happen to them, but I think they just don't notice it. In some games that there is a bit of compression/tearing or something if a lot changes on screen, but you're right it is less noticeable in a game than on the desktop or with a command line (like when I run my BBC micro through the GBS).

Yah, I've observed that on several revisions of the GBS. Not sure why it does it, but the 'halo' around the mouse makes me crazy.

  2. Big fan of LCD/LED technology, Almost every video output device in the house is one.

However, I still have a ginormous 37" Sony Trinitron in the basement for the Jaguar and older consoles, plus a few CRTs for old computers. (ST monitors, Mac monitors and a really old SGI trinitron).

A LCD is superior in pretty much every way, but for old hardware, you really need the output device it was designed for.

The only reason to have the old hardware is to experience it exactly as it was, otherwise you don't need the old hardware and should go the emulation/FPGA route.

  3. FWIW.....

Sometimes in life, we make mistakes, and IMHO, you suck it up and move on.

No bullshit fantasy stories or intricate lies.

I once listed a rather rare memory board for $1 BIN (it was supposed to be $1 starting bid). Someone snapped it up, and got a great deal, because my mistake, not theirs.

edit: full disclosure, the buyer sent me an extra $50 (still way below value, but hey), because I honored the auction. People respect those who honor their word, not so much for those who make it up.

  4. OK, before this thread spirals outta control. I was NOT trying to insult Farb's efforts in any way. My earlier post may have seemed like I was. I have been through many many project management cycles before (it's kinda what I do for a living). All I was attempting to say was that as soon as someone takes responsibility for a project, then they have a responsibility for the cycle of that project. Some thought needs to go into the distribution of the product that is being produced. At least some of the effort could be given by people willing to help, to avoid overloading any single person. Perhaps a website that offered the files as incremental updates, to avoid the necessity of downloading the complete package over and over to keep up-to-date. This is the idea I was attempting (badly) to put forth earlier. This can and should be more than a 1-person effort. My stating that "I wont bother you again" was supposed to mean, that instead of incessantly posting begging for updates, I would shut up till he had something to offer. Like any public forum I forgot to take into account that other people would see what I wrote in the worst possible light. I formally apologize to anyone who thought I was being an a$$, I should have shutup earlier.

I got what you meant, just trying to help more.

It would be nice to rsync 'em =D
