I've gotten to the last level but never finished it. If you don't already have it, look at the instruction manual on AtariAge - it gives you quite a few clues to get started. For the most part, you'll be running around (hold B to go faster), picking up notes, avoiding enemies, seeing "BOGUS" a lot and trying again. If you get stuck, it usually means there's an item you haven't found or used, or an area you haven't explored. So keep trying. A hint when you get to the moving furniture: if you are color blind, it will be almost impossible to get past this room.

HOLY COW Warbirds and Xenophobe alone will often run you about $61. That was a DEAL.

Wish I could vote for a game that I liked better, but Turbo Sub is my choice. I don't like shooters as a whole, but the graphics really impressed me. Great scaling and fast action, reminds me of the old arcade game Blaster...which I didn't like playing much either. Ah well.

Tie for first place: - Malibu Bikini Volleyball. I love how they set up a virtual CD player where you can choose from 10 tunes, shuffle, whatever. "Bikini Beauty" is a lovely, soothing track...perfect for a friendly, relaxing game of v-ball. - Bill & Ted. Very impressive how they not only came up with a track for each time period, but for each instrument as well. The Europe tune is especially well done and is based on Bach's Sinfonia #4. Honorable mention: - Electrocop. A simple, catchy tune. I even tried to play it on the piano. Bach made it in here as well...one of the codebreaking tunes is Invention #8, I believe.

By the way, Stun Runner will remain firmly on my overrated list. I admit, it's only because I truly suck at it. I tried to stay near the middle and now I can't even pass the SECOND level. The sad thing about that is, this level can be passed by simply not touching the controls at all. Which means my stuffed animals can play this game better than I can.

I like the QS idea! Combine it with some Wii controllers and you have a crazy experience. I'm trying to figure out the game on each screen... Upper left: Hard Drivin, just past the cow barn Upper right: I guess that's the overhead radar Lower left: some kind of flight simulator Lower right: Asteroids?

If only Epyx had released Summer, Winter, World Games on the Lynx! Sigh. 1. CA Games, by far! So addictive and I still play it. The score "rating" system on BMX and halfpipe is fun, and the skater babe on the high score screen doesn't hurt either. 2. Electrocop. A little tedious, but the music is awesome and I love the mini-games. 3. Zarlor Mercenary, strictly for the hidden math program (Life). 4. Chip's Challenge, strictly for the hidden math program (fractals). 5. Slime World. A bit slow, and kind of frustrating at times, but I like that you don't really die permanently, except on the Action level. I'm not a fan of the usual "three lives and you're out." 6. Gates of Zendocon. Not my cup of tea. 7. Blue Lightning. Too hard for my taste. 8. Gauntlet. I find this boring and repetitive, and I don't like the sounds at all.

Funny, I was just trying to re-discover the halfpipe today. The essence is definitely learning the timing of holding DOWN on the down part and UP on the up part, as P.A.M. said. And yes, you have to turn on each trip or you won't build any momentum. The first 3-4 trips, you can only do kick (non-aerial) turns. Press the A button while you're in the last section of the pipe. Don't hold it too long or you'll crash. The manual is wrong - the place to do the kick-turn is on the last section, not the second-to-last. After a few trips, you'll have just enough momentum to get a tiny bit of air between you and the ramp. Now you can do aerials. As soon as your board leaves the ramp, hold the A button ONLY long enough to hit a clean turn in the sky. Hold it too long (or too short!) and you'll crash again. At first, you'll only be holding the button for a small instant. But if you keep succeeding, you'll keep building momentum and be able to hold the turn longer. Eventually an aerial can be as much as 999 points. My ex-roommate's high on this event is almost 28,000. Good luck.

Wow, I'm stumped, and I tried all the Atari/Atari Games titles on KLOV and the Atari museum. I even checked my Atari 2600 catalog for good measure. Maybe it's from a poster/flyer?
-
Congratulations! I don't think I cleared Shanghai even once during the brief time that I had it. Quite an accomplishment. So are you gonna go for the other 6 levels now?
-
Whoa!! Thanks GDG for the tip. You have me pegged perfectly, I am always trying to get to that "outside wall." It did seem to slow me down...for some reason it never occurred to me to ignore the computer and just stay near the middle. I'm gonna try that!
-
Cyberball - I actually like this one, and yes you can run if the computer is not in their "standard" defensive formation. Try it near the goal lines or the 50-yard line. In the early part of the game, you might even be able to run in a 2-point conversion. Power Factor - I'm pretty middle of the road with this. I thought it was boring but I really appreciated having an invincibility option. Much better than most platformers. Hard Drivin - ugh!! Terrible. But another "gotta have it for memory's sake" game for me.

Love: APB (used to be an arcade fave), Bill & Ted (this is the #1 game I bought my Lynx for), Electrocop (great music and Asteroids too!) Hate: Batman (see post #4 on this post for why), Gauntlet (awful music and no continues - that ain't Gauntlet!) Ambivalent: Scrapyard Dog. The game is too hard for my taste, but I just have to have it because of first-year dorm memories. On the other hand, I'm in the minority with WC soccer (love it) and Klax (blecch). I like Chips strictly for the hidden fractal program.
-
Klax is at the top of the TAT list...and the top of my overrated list! I just don't have a liking for arcade/puzzle type games. Nice job on the sounds and colors, however. Blue Lightning would have to be next. I would rate it higher if you didn't have to start the level all over after crashing. Third is Stun Runner. Great graphics/sound, and I have to have it since it's an old dorm game, but I find it way too hard. I've only completed level 3 once in my entire life. (Then of course I let someone else play on my Lynx for the first time and they breeze through it on the first try.)
-
Ooh! Ooh!! There's a high score I might be able to beat! My all-time high on Tron is 200K and the high is only 157K!! Now if I can just get off the west coast....... Missile Command (105K), Ms. Pacman (83K), Space Invaders (7K) and Tempest (153K) also look beatable, though not by me. They didn't post the Burgertime score yet...perhaps tomorrow.

I find that Lynx games are often easier to find complete than incomplete...there's still so much unused stock out there. I don't ordinarily keep boxes because they just take up shelf space. But I kept Xenophobe complete because it was @$$ expensive, and Bill+Ted and Volleyball because they're my faves. For everything else, I keep the game and manual, and chuck the box. I like the manuals because my dorm mate used to have them in college, so they have some sentimental value. I don't think Batman, Rampage or Scrapyard Dog are that hard to find complete? I've seen them all that way. Batman might be a little harder because I think it was a pack-in game at one time, but I've definitely seen it with the box before. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a boxed Blue Lightning or CA Games.
-
Checkered Flag for Lynx comes to mind. Similar to the billboards in Pole Position, except some of the games never made it to production (I can't remember but I think it showed Geoduel and/or Hyperdrome)
-
(regarding Time Traveler) YES. That is what gets my goat. It really makes the game hard to play. Dragon's Lair CD-ROM is marvelously lacking in such pauses except at the death scenes, just like the arcade. I can't speak for the DVD version...I fear it may have the same pauses (good or bad) as Time Traveler?
-
I don't recall there being any skip in the arcade ones that I played, or if there was, it was pretty imperceptible. On the home version it is VERY noticeable, almost a full second each time. It really disrupts the flow of the game.
-
If you can stand a slight disc skip after every move, Digital Leisure does have a DVD version of Hologram/Time Traveler. Personally I cannot (stand the skip). Also, I'm not a fan the simulated "3-d", which is accomplished by a red-on-blue graphic repeating in the background, and a pair of 3-d glasses. It really doesn't do anything for me.

Loved CEC - the pizza has an unusual smoky (and super greasy) flavor to it that I've found in no other pizza. The only thing that irked me a little was how they couldn't personalize birthday songs. So it was always, "Happy birthday, HAPPY BIRTHDAY" instead of "Happy birthday, dear Snotty." I have fond memories of playing the classics there. Skee-ball, Fire Truck, Astro Fighter, all the laserdisc games, dome hockey with those little foozball-type handles...oh yes, and the short-lived, pint-sized "Muppet" games such as Leprechaun and Tugboat.
-
Do the DVD/HD versions of Dragon's Lair have a slight pause after every move? I recently bought the DVD of Time Traveler and stopped playing because I found the pauses so annoying. On the other hand, Dragon's Lair on CD-ROM is outstanding. The home version has come a long way since the original no-sound version on 3.5" diskettes...and before that, the Commodore 64 version.

I still see some value in this thread: which *of these 20 candidates* do you think is the best? For sheer fun and great comlynx play, I gotta go with Rampart. There was a time it was rivaling Starcraft as my strategy game of choice. FYI my all-time favorite is Malibu Bikini Volleyball.
-
Really! That strikes me as odd. I would have guessed they would have run slower, because we get the 'fast' problem here in the states. When I've smuggled PAL DVD's into the US (shhh) I've noticed they play a little faster than what I'm used to. I notice it most on music; on regular audio/video it's barely noticeable.
-
My opinion: Nice try, but suffers from some control issues that aren't present in the arcade version. I find the floating logs particularly frustrating, to the point where it isn't even fun to play anymore. Also, in the arcade version, Pac-Man has those cute cartoon-style eyes. On the Lynx, his eyes are shaped like, well, Pac-Man. Like those grotesque Raggedy Ann dolls and some editions of Mickey Mouse. Ugly. 5/10 Tips: If you get the high score and enter your initials as "330NE", you will start with 10 extra lives. (from the Lynx Catalog)
