I made a video about how to install RespeQt on Linux.
I have MX Linux (Debian) and was able to compile RespeQt 5.3. It is able to mount and open ATR images I download from Internet. But I cannot add files to any of those ATR images (even as sudo). Also when I create an image (16 MB HD image), it always creates them as write protected, and so far have not found a way to change that to writeable.

Linux can be adapted but it's still too complex for what I am looking for. Modern scripting languages are also too complex and have too many requirements. I think BASIC has been unfairly shunted when it's still a good learning tool.
If I could get Linux down to booting in no more than two seconds, there might be a chance. The OS would have to be read-only (like squashfs) and ideally be on some internal flash.
You could try Picobricks:

Raspberry Pico (boots in a second) with integrated hardware for DIY projects (with kids in mind). It's fun!

Nothing to sell or trade for now, except stories
. Might buy something, if my self-control wavers...
Will mark the calendar, as I would love to meet local Atarians and share experiences!
I also would love to help set it up.

Calling out all CAD & 3D printing wizards!
Not me, of course: a) I am no wizard, and b) I have no 3D printer.
Two variants I see could happen:
One, CAD expert could create a file for, say, an 800XL case (IMHO the best, most elegant case design). And of course, the file for the 3D printer.
Two, a total redesign from scratch for an 800XL motherboard. Could be something similar to the MegaST case, for instance.
What say you?

How did a glitched batch of 6502C meant for 5200 production (with required mods) end up in a 8bit computer? I believe the timing issue identified in the 5200 FSM is unique to the 5200, meaning those Rockwell (RC) marked CPUs should not have made it into the 8-bit computer supply chain. I guess the cannibalization of 5200 VLSI chips have introduced them into the available parts pool. I just bought one off eBay not knowing it's pedigree.
Has that CPU been in your machine from the start?
Have you had any issues with it operating (glitches, lock ups, dead screen)?
Yes, it is the same the 800XL came with when I got it. No Issues that I know of, so far! <knock on head>

Oh! I see, good to know! Thanks, Doc!

I'll look into it, but no promises. I moved about 7 years ago, leaving half my possessions in storage near my former residence, went back a year later to recover them and my storage unit had been robbed. But it may have made it into the other half I took with me, I know I have about a foot tall stack still of manual and other technical printouts from PDF's for both Atari 8 and 16-bits. However, I also have about a half a dozen harddrives from all my PC's over the last 20+ years and intend to purchase a retrieval device shortly, and it is very possible that the original PDF is on one or more of those drives. I will keep you informed, but that bit maybe weeks away yet.
So sorry about you being robbed! That totally sux.
Take your sweet time going through all that stuff, that will be fun!

I was lucky to meet him at VCFE 2019. He had been on a health kick with a trainer and looked like a body builder. He was so energetic and enthusiastic. Check him out:
Man, he was oozing enthusiasm and knowledge!! What a loss for the community.

It has been at least a decade since I owned or used an ST. But it is possible I still have the manual printed from a PDF, If the PDF itself is no longer available for download. Have you already searched online for the Neo 3 manual?
I don't have the PDF, just possibly my print out of it I would have to scan again.
Oh, yes. I've been looking all over the Intharwebs. No luck. I did find docs for Neodesk 4, but I understand there were a lot of changes in that version.
If you could find it and rescan it, it would be awesome!
