Awesome news. This is the same developer as Sigi and Sir Lovealot, right? Both of those were really fun, so I'll definitely pick up this one. It looks intense.

I might be repeating myself here, but I'm very excited that Atari has recognized the potential for the VCS to be an "official" platform for the fantastic homebrew community that developed for their legacy systems. I don't own a 7800, but I have bought all the 7800 titles that were ported to the VCS. I'm excited to grab the two that were released today once I get home.

Paperboy, Crazy Taxi, even the VCS' own Doodle Taxi. I guess I just like games where I make deliveries. This sounds right up my alley.
-
True. I'm glad we found some common ground.
-
Hahaha. With time, all things are possible. Seriously though, this is great news. If they get classic controller support done right, the VCS could be the definitive way to play this game. Kudos again Atari.

I'm in the same boat. I bought qomp 2 earlier last week, but it looks like it went down shortly after that.

4-player party game? You just made my day. I love local multiplayer on the VCS, and this looks right up my alley

Any Game in the VCS Store is FREE Offer (to end of Feb 2024)

Hahaha, I'm with you @Atari_JaguarVCS. I'm like two or three games away from complete (minus 4th and inches and Crystal Quest, both got pulled before I could get them). I might use this for Boulder Dash because I was holding out on that one for a while. -
Spirit of the Samurai has been high on my "must play" list for the VCS since I first saw the trailer. It seems like a very beautiful, creepy, and all round atmospheric game. I also agree with @Atari_JaguarVCS that the VCS should continue being supported for a while. The VCS has grown into a great platform for smaller indie and Atari homebrew developers to release their games in an accessible (and officially Atari sanctioned) format where they can still get noticed. Every week it seems like more small developers are jumping on board and releasing new titles. So long as the VCS is still a developer friendly platform, I think Atari will keep it chugging along. As a fan of the system, that works great for me.

This is very true. I remember a lot of the negativity around the VCS kept me from considering buying one for the first year or so. It wasn't until I managed to catch one on sale that I gave it a chance. Personally (I can only speak for myself) I've found the VCS to be an awesome "swiss army knife" of a console. It's a console, it's and emulation station, it's a PC. It's been my most used console since I bought it, and my only regret was not getting one earlier. I guess I shouldn't have bought into the negativity.

Looks like fun. I saw that 2nd boss had this game listed as "in progress" on their steam page a few weeks ago. Seems like that was the only title of theirs that hadn't got a VCS port yet. I've really liked the 2nd boss titles on the console. Hopefully they continue to support the VCS.

Very cool man. I can't wait to see what you came up with.

I definitely agree. In my opinion, there have been a handful of genuine complaints that people can hang on the VCS. The zip code issue took way to long to fix, and needing to flash the console out of the box was not a great first impression (both of these issues seem to be things of the past now). That said, I don't think game support is a remotely fair criticism. Atari has supported the console with the majority of their releases since it came out, and the release of 3rd part/ indie/ homebrew releases has honestly exceeded my best expectations (1 or 2 new titles have been dropping per week for about a year now). I currently have a decent backlog of titles that I'm very interested in playing, but haven't had the chance because I am already playing too many other VCS titles. If LLB never comes out on the VCS, I will be mildly disappointed (still looks like a pretty cool title to me), but I won't be complaining about Atari "not supporting the VCS enough". That's just flatly not true.

I think calling Orange Pixel's games "shovelware" couldn't be farther from the truth. From what I've seen, OP's games have been polished retro-style entries with really fun gameplay. Gunslugs, Space Grunts, and Stardash (to name a few) have all had a lot of game time on my VCS. Sure, a few of these titles have had mobile ports, but don't let that fool you, these games have been an awesome addition to the VCS console. This is obviously my biased opinion (OP is probably my favorite non-atari developer for the VCS), but I think calling these games shovelware is wildly inaccurate.

That seems like a good call, @Rockymin. I upgraded my unit with a similar sized SSD, but used the whole thing for Atari OS (I use a separate 3.1 USB drive for PC mode). I have all but a handful of the VCS releases at this point, and I've only used about 100 GB.

This seems like the best of both worlds (though I admit, I don't know anything about how challenging it would be to develop two completely different control schemes). I admit, I found the controls a bit challenging when I first played the demo. That said, hearing the developer's explanation on the controls, I like the idea, and I'm more likely to learn the nuance of this control scheme (over just playing it as a twin-stick). Some people might not want to put time into learning this scheme, so twin-stick will be the "path of least resistance" for them. Either way, the demo looks great and I'm very excited for a full release.

I'm holding out hope that this comes out on the VCS. It seems like such a good match for the classic controller (provided that you don't need too many buttons). I will probably pick it up on Steam and still try it out on the VCS, but I would love to see a VCS port with classic support.
-
I think that's a fair review. I wanted to like this one based on the competitive local multiplayer (that's usually a big selling point for me), but I can't find the fun in the game play. This game might not be one to come back to.

Atari VCS Store Order Number High-Score :)
RollOut replied to Mockduck's topic in VCS High Score Club
It's been a little since I posted a purchase, but the sale inspired me to pick up some of the 7800 and dos box titles. My last one was Harrier Jump Jet at 62390 -
Ah, the venerable Jaguar. Sure, other consoles have bigger libraries and/ or fancier games, but what good are they when it's time for your yearly dental checkup?
-
I have used my VCS in PC mode for gaming a lot (similar set up to you with Windows on a 1 TB external thumb drive). I've used Steam and GOG for multiple games, but never had an issue. I'm with @Atari_JaguarVCS on this one, it sounds like a game specific issue. Have you played this game on other computers or played any other steam games on the VCS?

1. Gravitar 2. Yars 3. Astroids All three work well with the classic (gravitar being my favorite classic controller game).

I'm sorry this has been a frustrating experience for you. I can't speak to the Rom being pirated, but among the VCS fans on the forum, Alien Abduction seemed very well received. Personally, I think your game signalled the VCS finding its identity by becoming a home for talented programmers who want to develop Roms for the legacy consoles. Since Alien Abduction dropped, there have been a number of original 2600 and 7800 games that have gotten VCS ports. As a fan of the console, I think this was a big plus for the VCS fan base. I guess I'm saying thanks for supporting the VCS, even if it wasn't how you wanted it to go.

I haven't experienced this either. I've played a few sessions at this point, but my progress has been saved each time. Also, this game is awesome. Puzzle platformers are some of my favorites, and this one is probably my favorite on the console since Sir Lovealot.

Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration - (12 extra games)
RollOut replied to Atari_JaguarVCS's topic in Atari VCS
I agree with your sentiments about the Lynx titles @MrTrust. I'm excited for what we have, and am hoping more titles find their way over to the VCS. I don't personally own a Lynx, 5200, or 7800 (or any of the computer lines), so those title are the ones I'm most excited to play when they get released on the VCS (either individual game downloads or in compilations). I don't know much about who holds the rights to which games, but I would love to see more of the Lynx on the VCS, myself.
