  1. A bit off topic (but still directly on topic for the tread), I am really glad they added Warbirds back to Atari 50 (yes, I know it wasn't on the original VCS release, and that an update removed it from the other ports).  That is such an impressive technical feat for the Lynx. The game could use more depth (especially single player), but I'm still amazed that this game was made for a handheld console from the early 90s. I'm sure this is old hat for the Lynx fans among you, but I've never played one myself, so I am very impressed.

  2. This looks like a lot of fun. Its definitely a change of pace for the VCS game library, but so we're Skinny and Franko and Ultimate Ski Jumping (and they're both awesome additions). Maybe that's just Blue Sunset Games' style. Keep the game library diverse.

Plus it seems oddly fitting to have a Doom clone on Atari's 1st console since the Jaguar. Bring on the Iron Soldier clone next.

FYI It looks like there are two other new games available for the vcs today, battle rockets and a new platformer called Milli & Greg. I like platformers so I picked that one up, very cute.

Milli & Greg seems awesome. Gives me Sirlovealot vibes, which I also love. I haven't quite been able to make sense of Battle Rockets yet, but I'll give it another go with a friend (I'm a big fan of any game that has competitive multiplayer).

There was a day a few weeks ago when my saved card disappeared,  but I rebooted it and it was back.   I don't know if the "out of the blue" errors might be related to that?

I had that same thing happen once (a few weeks back), but not since. I may be whistling past the graveyard, but so far I've had no further issues with the store

  5. For me, this game is one of the better examples of using the classic controller. The twist function is utilized well and makes the game a lot of fun to control (which makes it all the more surprising that it didn't work correctly at release). I admittedly haven't played on anything but my VCS, but I think the classic controller makes the VCS port the definitive version of this game.

At least the release trailer sets up the appropriate expectation of multiple fails 😅

Multiple fails is definitely right. Personally, it's on the right side of difficult for me. The levels are short and you reload at the start as soon as you die (virtually no lag time). My wife and I went back and forth for and hour yesterday getting through levels (she is considerably better than I am). I think it will be part of the VCS rotation for a while. Another fun drop from Orange Pixel.

I enjoyed this balanced review too. (For the record, I really love this game.)

Thanks for posting that review @justclaws. I think it sums up my feelings really well. There are still some issues/ hang-ups (I wish there were more/ more different missions and the glitch when you enter a new room and your character freaks out for a second is pretty annoying). That said, the update that fixes classic controller support has been awesome. I love how this controls now, and it has been my "go-to" game pretty much since the first update. It's still one of the more uneven Recharged titles, but it grown on me a lot.

There's a new update dropped for the game that fixes the aiming with the spinner on the classic joystick! I've got to say that was quite a quick turn around getting the update out which i really appreciate, the game is brutal with the classic joystick but it playable and i absolutely love it now, definetaly more Yars type with the aiming for sure. I've almost beaten my high score using the classic joystick already. I just seem to do better with a joystick over a controller at times it was the same with Quantum Recharged i got a better high score using the joystick over the controller 😅

I  got a chance to try this with the updated classic controller support, and this makes a huge difference for me. Berserk Recharged still has a few rough edges, but I had a lot of fun playing it with the joystick. It should have worked from the start, but kudos to Atari for putting out a relatively quick fix for the issues. My overall impression is way more positive after the patch.

  9. Ouch, these are some pretty rough first reviews. I won't be able to check this out till tonight, but it seems like the overall response is underwhelming (especially the broken classic support). I wonder, is the previously released Ultra Mission a better Berzerk homage than the official Recharged title?

Oh man, i got to play a bit of this at the Portland convention and it was so awesome!

I absolutely loved the new enemies and controls, and evil otto is way cooler this time around.

Definitely the first game im gonna buy when i get a vcs. 🤖

It's great you were able to play this in Portland. Were you able to play it on an actual VCS there? I was curious if it controls well (or at all) with the classic controller.

Though I haven't gotten around to upgrading the VCS memory yet (I see no reason for an internal drive upgrade since I have USB ports and thumb drives), but I've been adding the peripherals and OS's.

Different from my previous pictures posted, in this one I have a second modern controller (aftermarket XBOX 1) for $10 and when I got it home I noticed how closely the design matches the Atari controller! Did I just happen to purchase a controller from the company that made the Atari VCS modern controller?!? IIRC, the brand is PDP.

Anyway, I also upgraded to a premium quality mouse, slim profile with RGB LED backlighting to match my Atari keyboard. I also purchased Atari's Linux USB stick for the PC side. I made a 64G thumb drive boot loader Windows XP and two more thumb drives formatted for use with the VCS for game storage. I only use internal storage for the VCS apps and emu's and streaming services.

I also got a USB 3.0 to Sata/IDE adapter and added a 2.5" 180G mini IDE HDD and 3D printed a case for it using a model done for C64 cartridge that I modified slightly to fit. It is for Windows 7. Also a 500G SATA 3.5" drive with Windows 10.

    Lastly, I got a USB 3.0 4-port hub.

Awesome setup man. I love the Fuji on the mouse. Nice touch.

  12. Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. I've tried looking around online and in game reviews for this info, but no luck. I was wondering, has anyone tried to play this game in co-op, and if they are having trouble saving progress? I can save progress just fine in single player, but co-op never seems to save. I even erased all my game data to start fresh, but I still can't get progress saved in co-op (the "continue" button just goes away). When playing 2-player, the game still says it saved when I enter a new level, but I can't access it later. Am I doing something wrong or is progress saving not supported when playing 2-player?

  13. Awesome news! Just out of curiosity does anyone know how the rights work with Bomberman/ Dynablasters? My understanding was that Dynablasters was the original European name for what the US calls Bomberman. I thought Konami had the rights to Bomberman now. Is the Dynablasters name separate now, and BBG has the rights to that name? Just idle curiosity, the game looks awesome either way.

In my opinion they are all great, but I am loving Quantum and I think that might be the best in my opinion.

I haven't dedicated a lot of time to Quantum (yet), but what I have seen I liked. I had some doubts about pulling it off without a trackball, but the modern controller works surprisingly well.
