@Dionoid great news.  I just got the cartridge of Tower of Rubble and it's awesome.  For the VCS release are these the same rom as what is on cartridge or is there any updates to these?

I was wondering about that too. Either way I am very happy about this move. Official Atari sanctioned releases of these new/ homebrew 2600 titles is awesome.

  2. I'll echo some of the previous comments. I think that the VCS is the definitive way to play most of the Recharged titles because of the classic controller. I have liked plenty of other titles, but they are the "must haves" in my book, because I don't think they will control the same on other consoles.

Wow that sucks, was not expecting to get rich from my H.E.R.O. like game, but I did not think it would get stolen so quickly.

Video game business was always hard, constant new technology to learn, lots of business success/failure ups and downs and lots of winner/loser game projects.  But getting my game stolen before buyers can even discover it is quite ridiculous.

Thinking I should go back to being retired.

I can't speak to the rom being stolen myself (I am I think most people are very happy to get this release from the VCS store), but I can say that Alien Abduction has been a very welcome addition to the VCS console. As much as I love the VCS, the machine has had a bit of an identity crisis from the beginning (a lot of folks saying "why should I buy this exactly?). Alien Abduction has gotten a lot of praise from the community, and I've been hearing more people saying "I'm looking into the VCS now" because of this release. I'm not saying that the console's fortunes are reversed or anything, but I think it's a good step towards finding it's niche. Atari should be supporting more output from classic game developers such as yourself.

I thought "Games By Apollo" was the poster child for the fly-by-night companies that rushed low-quality 2600 games before the Crash?   Or am I thinking of a different company?

You might be thinking of Games by Apollo. I think they have a dodgey reputation. That said, they have a few fun titles. I am personally a fan of Lost Luggage. Nothing ground breaking (sort of a Kaboom clone), but who else would have thought to turn a luggage carousel into the inspiration for a video game.

    Non-technical summary:

2600 programmer controls the signal to the TV.

Old TV were very forgiving, so programmer didn't know if they generated the signal incorrectly.

New TVs not as forgiving, some like yours less so than others, so new TVs reveal old programming mistakes.

From the non-technical among us, bravo to you. That's the best non-tech answer I've heard for this behavior in some 2600 games.

I did watch a thing that basically said 1 in 2 people have some form of cancer...

In an Atari forum, a conversation about retail discounts ends in the revelation that half of us have cancer. I wasn't ready for this when I opened up the thread. 😉

Sheds are not on the roof but on the ground instead.

That was my experience too. Other items like data pods can be on the roof, but sheds are always on the ground. They are also usually heavily defended. Usually, I just fly around the sector and wait to get shot at. The sheds are usually close by

Like I had said in that video's comment section...

The "old" Atari SA games only run in Windows and unless Atari gets Valve's Proton layer working on the Linux-based VCS, then you have to run Windows & Steam on the VCS.

Had not thought of that. Good point.

Tell me the VCS is just a side project without telling me it's just a side project.

I feel like that is a half truth. The VCS doesn't have the install base for Atari to put all of their eggs in it's basket. They need to sell to other markets (like Steam, other consoles, etc) because that's where the bulk of their revenue will come from. That said, they have been supporting it pretty well so far this year, with a bunch of 1st and 3rd party releases, and a bunch more on the horizon. I would love to see some of those Steam titles released on the VCS, but I'm not going to fault Atari for lack of support right now. Lately they seem like they're giving the VCS it's due.

Awesome. How did you manage the big battlegroups? For me the game would regulary crash there. At some point I got used to fly by radar and just bomb everything from above so that the engine would not come to a halt and eventually crash.

Bingo. A couple of nukes thins out the ranks, and then go in low and clean up the leftovers
