Thought that was such an odd (but telling) choice for Atari... an American company that particularly boasted "American Made" at the time, but had it been released... would have totally embraced it and bothered to learn the sport. Being a big baseball fan, I too am disappointed it didn't see the light of day.
Same here. I'm an American, so I didn't grow up with cricket (I'm also a baseball fan). A few years ago I stumbled across a PAL copy of International Cricket for my NES (an Australian game). My brother and I taught ourselves the rules by playing that game, and it's really a lot of fun. There aren't too many cricket games out there from that time period, so when I found out we just missed out on one for the Jag, I was interested/ disappointed.

Unless I'm mistaken, the unreleased Jag CD box games are Black Ice, Jack Nicklaus, Demolition Man, and Creature Shock. Of the bunch, I'd pick Black Ice.
On the Jag side, if we extend beyond the box, I would have loved to have Graham Gooch World Class Cricket. It's too bad this port never happened.

Marmite is a sticky, dark brown paste with a distinctive, salty, powerful flavour and matching heady aroma. This distinctive taste is represented in the marketing slogan: "Love it or hate it." Such is its prominence in British popular culture that the product's name is often used as a metaphor for something that is an acquired taste or tends to polarise opinion
And for the record, I am firmly in the love it camp, when it comes to the sticky, dark brown.paste as well
Bloody lovely on toast...
Hahaha. Yup, that phrase just entered my vocabulary.
Also, as a lover of Syndicate, I guess now I'll have to try Marmite to see if the correlation holds true.

He hated programming it. At least that is what he wrote on twitter. Sounds bitter.
That's fair, but still a bummer. His games are tons of fun.

You beat the Jericho or the whole game? And is there a way to know how far you’ve progressed through the game - no idea how big it is?!
I beat the whole game. There are 3 cities, Jericho, San Diablo, and Troy. You have to take over all of the zones in a city to progress to the next one. I found the second city to be the hardest.

Always impresses me, but I’m terrible at it - still not out of Jericho…
Just beat it 2 weeks ago. San Diablo gets tough with huge waves of enemies, but Jericho is the glitchiest city in my opinion.

At long last, the Rayman episode is complete! It's been over a year in the making, and is over four hours in the listening, but I hope you find it informative and entertaining and reasonably accurate.
Next up will be an out-of-sequence episode covering RetroHQ's Jaguar GameDrive, so if you have any thoughts you'd like to share in the episode, please post here, DM me, or e-mail jaguar@gamebygamepodcast.com. Thank you as always for listening!
Eagerly anticipated. I'm actually excited for my Monday morning commute. Keep up the good work Shinto, you rock!

So I've only been playing my VCS for a few days, but it found I have a similar issue. The issue is inconsistent though. Sometime it boots up fine, sometimes the dashboard is cropped, and sometimes the dashboard is cropped and I loose sound. I haven't figured out what I do differently that gives me different outcomes. I tried turning off overscan on my tv, but nothing noticable happened. The fact that sometimes it's fine gives me hope that there is a solution, but I'm a bit confused so far.

Not like network errors, login issues, etc. don't exist on Playstation/Xbox/Steam/Nintendo. I don't see an excessive amount of tech issues with the VCS. As for fan noise, the VCS fan is quiet compared to my PS4!
Hahaha. I own a Dreamcast, after that I hardly noticed the VCS even has a fan.

This was great timing for me. I just picked up my VCS. Set it up this morning for the first time, and picked up all the Recharged titles, plus Tempest 4k, and Kombinera. Anybody know if this only applies to the VCS, or is it for all Atari titles on all current consoles?

I will be the first to admit that I have no business sense, but not selling in Europe is baffling to me. The company is headquartered in Europe, and it seems like some of the stronger support for their products has historically come from that side of the pond. I'm sure there's a reason, but I just can't figure it out.

One more vote for bowling. Also, mini golf could be a lot of fun.
Now if Activision was allowed, that's where the good stuff is. Ice hockey and fishing derby are two personal favorites.

I would expect it to go much longer than you say since I don't think it costs too much to make the indie style games Atari is making and I think there is more profit than one might think in multiplatform sales.
They are releasing the games on VCS, Playstation, Xbox & Nintendo as far as I know so I don't know why they would stop making games anytime soon as long as they are turning profits on the game development which I believe they are.
As long as they are making games, there is no reason to abandon the VCS since they already have a dedicated niche community who buys games on the VCS.
I have wondered this same thing. With the VCS a digital only console, how much of an added cost is it to atari to port over games that they would also be releasing on other consoles (vs constructing dedicated physical media)? Is it worth the trouble if the VCS install base is a small dedicated group of fans? Open question, as I don't claim to know enough about the business.
Now construction of new consoles, that's a different beast entirely. Suppose they someday work through their backlog, I could see new manufacturing being a bigger hurdle to overcome.

So for those that like Darius+... what's the hook? What got you liking it?
Asking in case I've missed something on this one and to appreciate it better.
I agree with what Saturn said. I also like how you upgrade your ship as you collect power ups. Your upgrades remain through the level, provided you don't die. I like this better than some similar games where you have limited time or ammo for your upgraded shots.
Also, I'm a fan of the sea-animal inspired bosses. So far I've only seen Fatty Glutton who looks a bit like a lionfish, and Octopus, who is shockingly... an octopus (I'm sensing a theme).

Great stuff on the new batch of ST ports. These are great. Darius+ is my personal favorite of the bunch. I was just hanging in there with Fatty McGlutton too, until I noticed

Ouch!
I've got the Gamedrive now (I was playing the Darius+ ST port that CJ dropped this week). Before that, NBA Jam. Such a good port of that game. One of my favorite Jaguar multiplayer titles.

I went back and watched the reveal trailer for Gravitic Mines, then the reveal trailer for Gravitar Recharged.
Pity Gravitic Mines wasn't the one coming out on PS4 etc, find myself loving the art direction far more than that in Recharged ?
Strongly agree. Nothing against Gravitar Recharged, it looks like a really cool game in its own right, but damn Gravitic Mines is just too pretty.

Syndicate! I find it highly playable and fun, building up your team from nothing into a global megapower. It's a PC port on console that plays much better than others due to the Jaguar's unique keypad. And there's some good variety across the 50 missions.
I'm one of the very few who actually likes the game, apparently. It does have a steep learning curve, as those controls take some practice
Strongly agree, Syndicate is my pick too. One of my favorites on the Jag

First console to growl at you when you turned it on?
No sooner do I post that I don't think the Jag is innovative, than I see you already proved me wrong. The Jag roar is revolutionary. Check mate to you.

So this might not be a popular opinion, but I don't find the Jaguar to be a very "innovative" console, in the sense that I don't think it pioneered many features that would change the console industry. Instead, I think the Jaguar is more similar to the consoles that preceded it than the consoles that would follow it. Now as someone who loves older style games, I happen to love that about the Jag (I'm a recent owner, so no 30 years of buyers remorse for me).

Screen edges cut off issue?
in Atari VCS
Posted
So update on my situation, now that I've had a chance to observe it for a bit.
If I haven't used the VCS for a few hours (like if it's the first time I've turned it on all day), the display and sound seem fine.
If the console goes to sleep, or if I change input on the TV (but it doesn't go to sleep), and I use it again, the screen gets cut off (I think the resolution gets messed up), and I lose sound.
If I turn the console off, and then back on within an hour or two of playing, I also end up with weird resolution (screen cut off) and no sound.
This happens in VCS mode, and in Windows PC mode (I just installed windows, Thanks @Mockduck).
For the record, I have an oldish (decade old?) 46" Dynex TV. I have a feeling the VCS just doesn't like playing with my oldish, and kind of cheap TV.
has anyone experienced what I am describing, and is there a fix? I was considering using a converter to downgrade the HDMI signal from the VCS to composite video, but that is a complete shot in the dark.
