? about Clubhouse Games for DS
carpecarne replied to joeybastard's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
+1 BTW, Clubhouse games is a great game! I highly recommend it! If it had Euchre, I'd be in Heaven, but alas.... -
30 bucks No, it works like any other DS wifi game. You find a hotspot that works, connect and you're off. When you first turn on the game, it will ask you to set a password - to protect your privacy I guess. (it allows you to save favorites). My 450 mHz G4 sometimes has trouble playing flash video; I can't imagine a combo 33 / 67 mHz ARM processor setup doing any better. I would not recommend this product for everyone - everyone has their differing preferences in a satisfactory webbrowsing experience. I don't personally own a laptop, and my web browsing consists mostly of reading the news, writing emails, and looking at numerous message boards. So if I'm at a café and I feel like checking my email, or if I'm in bed and I'm too lazy to walk to the other room, I just flip it open and check out what's going on in the world. But as far as Skype, Youtube and flash games are concerned... buy a macbookpro!

The Opera DS browser came out this week in the states and I thought I would share my opinions of it with you. If you're not aware of features of this product, please google it to find out more information. I am just going to give a brief rundown. As you all know, this is a web browser - and a simplistic one at that. It's not very fast, it doesn't support flash, music or PDFs, and thus will never replace your computer. I've read some reviews online where people complain that browsing the web on the DS is not as fast as it would be on a home computer. Well duh. The DS is a mobile device and has a very slow processor. You have to treat it as such. It is great for Email, news, message boards, Javascript games and even instant messaging via Ebuddy (www.ebuddy.com/mobile). To really squeeze the usefullness of this product you must use mobile or PDA versions of websites in order to quickly navigate through pages. GMail, Google, BBC news, and many other sites offer mobile versions that are customized for smaller screens. However, if your webpage doesn't have a mobile version, Google has a great product called Google Mobilizer (http://www.google.com/gwt/n) which reformats any URL into a mobile friendly website. I've found that using a combination of Google Mobilizer and the SSR mode of the DS browser yielded the most satisfactory web browsing experience on the little machine. So there you are. It's a great little product that people must respect for what it CAN do and not trash on what it can't.

I'd love to play a game or two. I'm not awesome, but I'm tired of bots. FC: 4854 0527 9555

I was given a modded PS1 and I was wondering if there were any good homebrew or good emulators for it. I know dreamcasts and xboxes seem to be the standard in modded consoles, but maybe there's something to download for this old dinosaur.

I have never played this classic before, and the only console I have (next to my 2600) is my DS. If anyone would like to trade, I would be happy to let go of the following: Nintendogs: Lab and Friends (complete - box and everything) or Legend of Zelda :Minish Cap (GBA complete- box and everything) Or name your price. Thank you.

I just don't "get" the Nintendo DS
carpecarne replied to RickHarrisMaine's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I have to agree with your daughter. When I got a GBA, back in 02, it was one of those things where I was just like, "Eh, it's just the same old stuff. Only prettier and portable" so it only got used for plane trips and Minish Cap. When the DS came out I was even less impressed, "Oh, wow, Super Mario 64 but with PS1-esque textures" No thank you. But ever since the great software came rolling of the trucks and the DS lite came out, I grabbed one and it has become one of my most favorite consoles of all time. I mean something as simple as putting the thing on sleep mode by closing the lid makes it such a wonderful gaming device on the go. -
Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't make it fact. My opinion, is yes, I feel the Wii is better than the PS3 or 360 (but really, the DS is better than them all, IMO). Why? I don't have a lot of time in life for games. I like playing with my girlfriend and other friends. And I can't see myself paying more than 300 dollars to pay an additional 60 bucks to play a game that will be played for a week and then sit and collect dust. PS: woah, I just now noticed the new chat software. CONFUSED!

Hey everyone, I just bought Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow for 10 dollars at best buy! I guess Konami is re-releasing DS games under a "best of" re-release, and I scored a copy today. Anyway, if anyone lives near a best-buy, check it out.

Anybody surf the web on a DS?
carpecarne replied to christianscott27's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
The Opera browser for DS will be coming stateside in early June. -
Stop - Do not attempt game repair, there are not user adjustable parts inside. Opening of game may damage highly technical devices insude and such damage would not be covered by the warranty. Servicing available at the nearest store throughout the world. Filled in the gaps for ya

fanboys...what if you're a girl?
carpecarne replied to thomasholzer's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Agreed. Fanboy just sounds so....immature. It's even more annoying when grow-ups (ie: gaming magazines) use the term. Can't we come up with a better term that doesn't reek of 12 year old boys? -
Is the -bit argument defunct now?
carpecarne replied to thomasholzer's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Oh god, another jaguar "bits" argument....run for the hills! -
I think for sony's sake, if they wish to remain in the business, they NEED to keep supporting the PS2 for as long as they can. I mean, it's outselling 360s right now! Maybe the high sales of the Wii/PS2/DS are testament to budding trends in videogaming markets. The latest and greatest won't always sell. Maybe graphical performance has hit a level of diminished returns: people don't see too big of a difference between last gen and new gen graphics to justify a higher price tag. Maybe what people want is a cheap machine with decent, acceptable performance, and great games. Just a thought.

I bought GP legends for 6 bucks. I thought it was a good buy. I haven't played any of the other F-zero GBA games so I can't compare. But for 6 bucks, I can't complain!

I heard on another forum that the R-type is actually 2 games in one for the American version. In Japan, the game was released on two different cards and I hear they have to pay 1200 points for the same material everyone else gets for 800. I am no TG-16 connoisseur...maybe someone can verify this?

Wii fastest selling console ever in Oz

the Wired has an article on the top 10 gadgets that changed the world. Funny enough, they mention the 2600! http://blog.wired.com/wiredphotos6/2006/12...gaming_sta.html If you read the article, they say that the modern version of the 2600 is the Wii. What do you think? The 2600 was the least graphically capable of the other major competitors (Intellivision, Colecovision), had the most simple and intuitive controllers...

I think B&W mode really shines in Video Olympics. A few of those later variations have terrible color choices and it's really hard to see the screen.
-
It is but this has been possible with the XBox for a long time (with no need for any sort of hardware modification.) I would not pay the price of the PS3 simply for this. I don't run anything outside of Unix-based OS's (Gentoo on main box and OS X on the one I am typing on) but it still isn't enough to convince me. It's not convincing me either to get a Playstation 3, but from what people are saying Sony is practically LETTING people put Linux on their machines. Very easy to load up. I think that's cool. My g4 mac is plenty good for me.

Download old classics to your Wii !
carpecarne replied to babyfacenc's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
Although I will agree with you both on this in light of what's been happening lately with the VC; however I feel that if one were to step back, the VC could prove to be a great feature IF nintendo is ready to step up to the plate. Just think: the Wii could be having a dry couple of months in terms of software, sales are down and BOOM: Chronotrigger! Dracula X! Hell, why not the unreleased Star Fox 2 for SNES! I am going to be optimistic and say that Nintendo right now is concentrating on getting consoles out in the wild and once the whole launch hooplah dies down, they are going to concentrate more efforts into bringing rare titles on the VC to boost sales. Remember the Zelda gamecube disk? Milking a franchise to boost sales by creating a compilation of classic games, one of them never have been released (ie: the Master quest Ocarina of Time) So yes, Nintendo is lazy about online presently, but I just hope to god they get their act together and make the Wii a force to be reckoned with. -
I'm not the biggest Sony fan in the least, but everyone has to agree: this is pretty cool.

I've been getting bored playing random matches in Metroid, and was wondering if anyone knew of any good sites where people swapped friend codes and scheduled meetings and such. PS: this isn't limited to Metroid, but it applies itself also to Clubhouse Games and Mario Kart. Thank you!

Gamestop and EBGames have Wii's for sale.
carpecarne replied to moycon's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
You know, to be fair, the only times Nintendo ever "upgraded" a console was in the handheld spec. Gameboy to gameboy pocket to color gameboy to gameboy color. And then: GBA to GBA SP to GBA SP with a brighter screen to GBA micro; and finally DS to DS lite. However, in regards to their home consoles, they have only seen downgrades to make them cheaper at the end of their life cycle. NES saw the top loading NES sans RCA composite. SNES saw the smaller form factor SNES with lack of s-video. The N64 didn't see any change at all apart form a few special editions in regards to color. And the Gamecube got rid of the digital out AV to bring the price down - and it kept the same form factor through its whole lifecycle (of course there was the Q - but that was in Japan only and it was more of a novelty than a replacement unit). So seriously, this "talking point" that gamers like to spew out all over message boards about how Nintendo loves to upgrade their consoles is overblown. If you actually do some thinking, it really only pertains to their handhelds.
