  1. PS3? No thanks. I don't want to get crabs on my Wii.
  2. Does there happen to be someone out there looking/willing to part with their copy?
  3. I need to get a bank account in a state with no sales tax!
  4. Not disbelieving you at all, Carp... but I question that article because they provide no detail on what is meant by "Support from Nintendo to recover your games". Reason I doubt the article is because no personal information is collected from you at all when you set up your Wii. At no time are you asked for name, address, phone, etc. You are given an option to Link your Wii to your N-sider account but that is just an option, not a requirement to play the Wii or shop online. After I set up my internet connection, I went right to the Wii shop, entered the code from the point card I had purchased with my Wii, and started downloading games. Lets say Joe Blow buys a Wii from Best Buy and download 5 games. Three weeks later his Wii fails and Joe goes back to BB and exchanges it for another Wii. Joe goes home, sets it up, and... of course, no VC games are available on his new Wii. So Joe gets on the phone and calls Nintendo and says "Hey, I bought 5 VC games for my Wii, then had to exchange my Wii at Best Buy because it failed, and now my VC games are gone. How do I get them back?" If the article is right, how does Nintendo confirm that Joe Blow bought a Wii and 5 VC games? Joe Blow didn't make any account when he bought his first Wii; Joe Blow didn't enter any personal information on his old Wii or his new Wii; Joe Blow didn't enter any personal information when he purchased VC games on his old Wii. So how does Nintendo know anything about Joe Blow or his Wii history? Answer: Nintendo doesn't know anything about Joe Blow; they know only that console #xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx has 5 VC games purchased to it. Nintendo has no idea who owns that console or where its even located. Microsoft does its purchased downloads different. The 360 makes you set up an account to get online. You enter all kinds of personal information and set up a Gamer Tag. Then when you download something, that download is tied to the Gamer Tag AND the console. If you exchange your defective console thru MS, they take care of transferring all your purchased DL's for you. If you exchange your console at Best Buy, you have to mail in a receipt showing that you exchanged console #xxxxx for console #xxxxx. Then after MS receives this receipt, they call you and walk you through the way to recover your DL's. Nintendo does none of this as they collect no information about the owner or a Wii or what an owner purchases; they know only what a console number purchases. So until someone explains to me how Nintendo works the whole VC system, I'll stick with what I've read in the past, in that all VC games are tied to a console (not a person) and if you exchange that system and get a new one, your VC's are gone until you repurchase them. Mendon No, it's ok. Since I don't have a Wii, I can't tell you first hand how the account works. Hmm. This seems interesting. I guess we'll have to see how it plays out.
  5. No idea. I would say probably not...but with Nintendo going the Apple route, who knows. (and I say apple because of the sharing abilities in iTunes among other things)
  6. This isn't true. You create an account with Nintendo and it keeps tracks of the games you download. So if you lose your Wii, or it breaks down you can get them back. Apparently, on other boards people say that you can delete games to make room for others and you are able to redownload them later when you have more space. http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/06/wii-virt...onsole-details/
  7. Look between the parentheses (). It's the world's smallest violin and it's playing just for you. But seriously, Nintendo is a business, and they are in the business of making money. Charging the price of a latte for an NES game is nothing. Plus, this is an Atari fansite; when did classic gaming become "old and outdated" in this community? Did I happen to type in 1up.com in the URL by mistake? (I mean, I've paid that much for 2600 games and never complained. I paid 10 dollars for Beamrider and felt that was a good deal) When you paid $10 for Beamrider, did you get a tangible item, like a cartridge, or just a file to play on a glorified emulator? And true, I missed out on the conversation(s) about the cost. (PS..not sure about the violin thing...I wasnt asking for sympathy, just stating that Nintendo can take thier cost for a game file and stick it where the sun dont shine. If I'm going to pay for a NES/SNES game, I'll buy the game.) It was a cartridge. Listen, I know ROMs are floating around the internet and they're easy to find, but I don't see why you have to use such juvenile language. Sodomizing companies with their product is so 10 years ago.

  9. When was the last time you listened to a CD? And on a gaming console at that..come on!
  10. How would you play warlords on an X-box controller?!
  11. I used to live in Madison... On the corner of Johnson and Few. I know exactly which Goodwill you're talking about too. Ah...i miss that town.
  12. If were talking 2-D stuff I agree, if were talking 3-D....not so much. Metroid and 3-on-3 hoops look really nice. But overall, the 3d is just ok. it's fine for the small screen, but nothing jaw-dropping.
  13. I see your point and here's my opinion: developers should develop good games. The Wiimote is helpful in breaking boundries that keep people from playing video games. It also gives developers options in terms of control and I would hope it would inspire them to create new forms of gameplay. Like the DS, I feel that developers should choose a control scheme that fits the game style. I love "Feel the Magic" on my DS, and I feel that Sega really understood how to make a great game with the different technologies in the DS. I also love Mario Kart DS, and I think that Nintendo understood that having conventional d-pad control was the perfect solution and leave the bottom screen for maps and such. For the Wii, I see the same thing. We have developers coming up with new forms of gameplay, inspired by the possibilities of the Wiimote (Trauma Center, Rayman, Super Monkey Ball), we have the developers who understand that conventional controls work best (Super Smash Bros - which will use GC controllers), and unfortunately we have controls that seem really tacked on (That Dragon Ball Z fighting game is an example from reviews) I just want good games the best control method possible. The Wiimote just opens the door for so much more in terms of gameplay.
  14. You're right. There is nothing stopping Microsoft and Sony from making their own version of the Wiimote - only problem is, their default remotes are set in stone and there's nothing you can do to change it. Sure they COULD release another controller but it would never get the support that the wii would get. It would just be another lightgun/steering wheel/eyetoy peripheral with no real large support. Next-next gen is up for grabs of course. But that's so far away. Let's not think about that right now.
  15. Thanks, I hope others will do the same. Although, you are in the U.K. and won't get the Wii until next year anyway, right? European release date: December 8 2006. They just have to wait a couple weeks.
  16. That's really neat. While I see older persons becoming interested in the Wii, I can't actually see them buying one for themselves. Maybe one for when the grandchildren come over? I dunno, can anyone think of a reason why senior citizens would purchase a wii?
  17. And now my impersonation of the Batman and Robin game.com game. Ah! Ah! Ah! A-a-a-a-ah ah! Do do do do do do do do dee do But congratulations all the same
  18. what's the story behind the original zelda theme?
  19. Yes. Jbanes put it nicely. Thanks for all those latin quotes...now to impress my former high school latin club president girlfriend! I actually put my screename to moving images a couple years ago....(Click here)
  20. This should some it up for the most part. A warning: some people here on AA should not read this and to anyone who does, some info is outdated and some over the top but the underlying jist is 100% correct. And please pay attention to the pictures and captions. I guess we'll just have to see in two years who is leading in the market, and only then will we decide whose shoe one eats.
  21. I heard there were 7 million Wiis to be launched into market. That's a hell of a lot of Wii's. I doubt they will sell out. Oh, I came up with a funny joke!: "PS3? No thanks! I don't want to get crabs on my Wii!" Eh? Eh?
  22. I don't know about this one: they've turned the protagonist into...wow...a space marine. Wow. This has focus group written all over it. It's doesn't tickle my fancy in the slightest...and this is coming from someone who loved Turok 2.
  23. I seem to remember people being more excited over those releases over 5 years ago than the consoles today. Back then 3d consoles were in their enfancy the generation before and the current generation of consoles offered - in my opinion - a drastic leap in image quality. This next-gen definitely looks great, but not the "now we can play zelda 3d with enemies on the screen!"
