[Vextrex No Sound, Dim Dot]

Hi Everyone,

 

New to the forum and Vectrex. I picked up a non-working unit and am trying to bring it back to life. Symptoms are as follows:

• Hums when turned on (transformer reads about 10V AC)
• Speaker crackles when volume is adjusted, but no sound
• VERY faint dot in center of screen when brightness turned all the way up
• Filament briefly lights when turning on cold (< 1 sec). No light at all when warm start
• Cable from power board to logic board sending +/-5V and -13V (checked from the logic board, not the connector)
• All electrolytic caps just replaced (no change in symptoms, as I tested it before) - most of the caps were fine, a couple had high ESR, a couple were out by >20%
• Filament appears to be getting about 7.5V AV
• Input to flyback looks like it is getting +/- 11V (should be 9?)
• Outputs of flyback about half their expected voltages
• Flyback has no dead shorts (all between 0.5-2.0 Ohms)

 

I have some experience recapping and repairing 80's oscilloscopes, so I'd say I have intermediate skills. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
