I have had plenty of success using the Atari branded arcade stick from Microcenter with built in trackball & spinner but I would love Atari to release a more basic VCS branded controller similar to this one with a trackball and spinner that worked with all relevant Atari VCS games.
-
Yes it has been Awesome to finally have a controller that has a spinner style function like the Classic Joystick twist rotation. I do hope Atari and other companies see the potential in these types of controllers and games moving forward since the possibilities really are amazing for new games and controllers that utilize the spin.
-
For Gravitar Recharged, no because the way ship moves and spins that spinner function in that game can only be done with the Classic Joystick as far as I know. For Breakout Recharged, no because the VCS version does not support mouse/spinner/trackball, the game will freeze up if you move the spinner too fast. (The Steam version Yes it does support mouse/spinner/trackball quite well) For the Atari Vault yes it should work if it is built properly and if the VCS recognizes it which you will not know until you plug it in and try it. Since that build only has 1 button, you would still need to use a VCS controller to make the menu selections. (I think I prefer the Steam version of the Vault though when I use the Atari branded arcade stick that I linked above but it does also work on the VCS Vault)

for which games would you be planning on using it on the VCS? There are spinner kits out there but the only one I could find that is pre-built is actually an Atari branded Arcade Stick. https://www.microcenter.com/product/639630/atari-single-player-usb-fightstick-plug-and-play There are people that build their own on youtube. Sometimes they look like this one and sometimes they are full arcade sticks with spinner/trackball.

Classic Joystick support with maybe some parts of the game that use the spin feature on the joystick would be enough "extra content" for me on the VCS.

Just posted my review of BPM Boy if anyone is interested. There is so much more I could have said about this game but here it is.

Anyone here any news on these 2 games coming to the VCS?

Completed all 34 planets 104.14%. The 3H46M09S is not my complete playtime. I think I played around 12 hours but did not keep track. The game does not count the time played when you restart a level I think which I did many times.

Quoting myself here because it is necessary. I was way off on this one and I should have waited before jumping to conclusions on this game. BPM Boy is far better than I expected and without a doubt worth the $20 price. The deeper you get in the game the more the quality of the game shows. It plays great with a modern dual analog and no other controller types are needed for this one.

Why isn't Atari posting game trailers for Donut Dodo and BPM Boy on the Atari VCS Youtube page? Seems to me it would take them about 5 minutes to post a quick trailer for these games that could reach thousands of viewers. It seems like a missed opportunity for Atari to promote these games.

I was having the same issue until I was able to time it correctly. If a single jump won't do it, try a double jump.

I think I know what you mean, If you use the color of the first and last line of colors and jump the middle one that is the other color that should work. So if it is Red/Blue/Red just use Red and jump the middle Blue. Hopefully that makes sense.

LOL, yeah I bought the game and my family can not eat for 2 days. I guess I made the wrong decision. I wish you would have told me not to buy it before I spent that $20 that was supposed to buy food for my starving family. It is quite interesting the level of defensiveness that a handful of people are portraying in this thread.

I had some initial concerns since I honestly was not expecting it to be $20. I had some conversations with fellow gamers on various platforms and decided to go ahead and buy it. If my words of uncertainty bothered anyone, that was never my intention. I just started playing and so far it is very fun and challenging. The graphics and music are great and it the controls/physics are very good. I do not want to give any cons or things I may not like yet as I need more time playing to be sure before I speak as I do not want to offend anyone here but here is a video of the 1st level with no commentary. If you are interested I will be posting various levels with no commentary over the next couple days while I work on the review. Again, I apologize if any of my words came off as being overly critical in anyway as that is not my goal here. Thanks for the reply.

LOL, I bought it an hour ago and am playing it now. I had no intentions of "crapping on anyone's game". I guess you expect everyone to be blindly positive about a game with no concerns ever. Ok but that is not me.

I wouldn't know anything about that since I do not have a PS5 or an XBOX Series X and have zero intention of ever getting one. Comparing Atari VCS games to PS5 games seems unfair to me though but again that seems like a topic for another thread. Please though, maybe you can share if you have purchased BPM Boy and what your thoughts are on this game to help others like myself make an informed decision on buying the game. If you think it is a great $20 game, please tell me why you think that after having played it. Thanks again.

While I very much disagree with you, I will refrain from getting into a digital media vs physical debate since that is not what this thread is about. I am sure there are plenty of other threads in Atari Age forums for that debate but thanks for sharing your opinion.

Very big difference between spending $20 on a non-refundable digital game that can not be resold or refunded compared to spending money on a collectable physical game cartridge that can be resold and possibly even go up in value.

I can very much appreciate the time and effort you have put into BPM Boy. Not having played it, I could be completely wrong in my previous assessment and only making an initial opinion based on what I have seen of your game which is surprisingly very little. As much as I really like the VCS, I am not one to just buy a game just because it is an exclusive. I still have not purchased Kombinera since it did not look like a game I would enjoy even though so many others have. Not every game is for every gamer but I think BPM Boy looks like way more fun than Kombinera and I would 100% buy BPM Boy before I bought Kombinera. If I do buy BPM Boy, it will be mostly for review purposes as I have not really seen any reviews on it yet so others on the fence might benefit from me giving an honest review of my experience playing it. I searched Youtube and have still not found anyone post a gameplay video of complete levels with music sound. Davpa had a nice video where he did show 2 levels but it was without sound for some odd reason and I thought it could be due to copyright claims on the music. Is the music creator copyright claiming gameplay video of this game? If I were to purchase the game, which I still might, I would want to make numerous videos showing the gameplay with the music and give my review of the game. If I do decide to buy it and give it a fun run of play, will I be able to post videos with music without getting a copyright claim?

I have not bought it but I was thinking the same thing that it looks more like a $10 game. I guess the exclusivity makes it a higher price tag which is understandable. If this game was on Steam I could see it selling at $8 to $10.
