  2. It may seem like tons of people are entering the hobby all the time, but in reality there are few jumping in that are that hardcore- fewer current folks striking it rich to start spending out of control. Welcome to my world. Space, the final frontier.
  3. So is someone going to put together a summary page of the findings of this wild ROM hunt? Perhaps with #,title, cart scan, screenshots, rom image and similar rom list? I still don't have a grip on how many of those Homevision titles are really out there- I have maybe 6, and you guys are listing 20 or so. What I really want to know is how many have that 'official' looking Homevision cart label. There are alot of pirates with the 'Homevision' logo pictured, but I'd like to know how many have official Homevision releases, if there is such a thing.
  4. You gotta be really into it to keep those things around. They may be geek trophies, but few older guys take pride in their geekosity to that extent. There have been alot of big spenders in and out of the hobby. Some stick. Most don't. That's why many of the rarities we see selling are the same carts- guys get into it and then get out. Turnaround could be 6 months or 2 years. I like your scenario, but it is a small hobby- hardcore collecting. And although collecting on the average level grows, few are really that serious as to jump to the $1000+ level, thankfully. I think that it will even out for a while, rather than taking some kind of jump any time soon. One deep pockets buyer doesn't persistently raise prices. One sale. One cart. Most of us think in terms of averages. I don't buy the (games are cheap) world is coming to an end theories. We'll see!
  5. Yeah, over $1000 for a lot like that, the seller's expectations were too high. I can see getting over $1000 if the stuff were parted out tested, guaranteed, with lots of pictures, classy ads, and a reputable seller. But for a lot, you can't be expecting THAT much more.
  6. I would be embarassed if my name came up as asking those questions. Unfortunately, it could be me on crack. "Ianoid asked: Do any of the cartridges have a blank end label and a black label with white writing that says 'Return to Jan Boehm' on it?" Everyone's looking for a deal. That is, until someone from Atari Age tells the seller how valuable his carts are. THEN, there are NO DEALS! Hey now!
  7. Those carts are well known (apparently not THAT well known) pirates by Action Hi-tech, found mostly in Australia. The boxes reveal the company that sold them. There are some other labels used- like a flying saucer thing. Likely from the same Taiwan source as Zellers games and others with crummy label art and similar bold end label typeface. Not THAT exciting or valuable, but fun for us collectors in the PALaxy. Does this belong on the eBay sub-board?
  8. There is no question that Adam has a good point. However, getting new heavy hitters into the hobby that will spend a ton requires several things: large cash resources, strong sense of nostalgia, and lack of sanity in paying for old games. The last part is sort of contrary to most who make money- presumably they played their cards right, so why would they go and spend more than anyone else amassing their collection? I suspect that most people who make alot of cash will be slightly more careful in how they spend it, and more concerned with market values. I agree that it is possible, even probable, that someone will jump into the scene and get spendy. However, this has probably been happening all along. There are folks who are bumping prices constantly, without those few heavy hitters we know about here on AA even bidding or buying. As people increase their earning potential, they tend to decrease their spending potential (ie. kids, wife, family, priorities), so this too goes against spending. The mid-life crisis thing is another story- I can see a guy in his 40s going nuts and buying up everything he can. Adam, I know that you are well researched in the collectibles- the best indicator would probably be precident. Have other collectibles hobbies had their Johnny come latelys with deep pockets? Is it common and regular for that to happen? I can say that I'm amazed at how high prices for certain old computer titles are going- both cartridge and non-cartridge. I would say that Atari 8-bit stuff is one of the more explosive markets out there- where prices can vary wildly from one week to the next.
  9. As the popularity of the hobby becomes better known, and the odds of Lochjaw scores being trashed decrease, prices will likely drop with time. And then there's also the phenomenon of saturation. Once all 5 of the psycho spenders get all or most of the items that we want, there will be fewer and fewer folks who consistently spend. Most of the high end action is stuff moving between high level collectors, anyway, which represents some degree of attrition in the high money spenders, like Dennis here parting out his awesome stuff.
  10. I take Bitcorp pretty seriously ever since I picked up a Bit 90 Computer/Colecovision compatible. I realize that to manufacture an actual computer, the company must have take themselves seriously. I would guess that most of these roms are on similar chips and/or boards. Anyone care to open up their carts and compare boards and chips? I think that inspecting ROMs and screenshots alone will limit us in determining the provenance of these games. Would I open up my carts? Not if I have to sacrifice the labels- but then I'm sure we can find some that have worn labels to open up.

  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...me=STRK:MEWA:IT Weird arcade item. I have to say that anything with the fuji is automatically twice as cool.
  15. My tradelist is at www.ianoid.com and it's pretty much up to date. My auctions are at: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...0&userid=ianoid Please check 'em out. If you want to buy stuff from the tradelist or work out a trade, PM me or email me at ianoid at gmail dot com.
  16. I actually like power sticks quite alot, but if you play with them for a long stretch, they induce cramps, like a mini Pain Line joystick. I usually have one of two of these onhand, but sorry, right now I have none. ian
  17. http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...0&userid=ianoid I have a few things up right now, should be more soon. The main item is a 2600 set with your choice of 25 of 60 games. Reserve is $100, but the Buy It Now price is $125. I'll throw in a couple extra 2600 titles of your choice if you use the BIN and tell me you saw this ad. ian
  18. Goes without saying. Packing things up (especially alot of it) is a pain in the arse. It could take 3 hours and a dozen boxes and tons of packing to responsibly pack respectable collections. Time is often more valuable than money.
  19. You know, you're probably right on the number, but I just didn't test every game or list them out to make sure that they have that number- I have had clones with '256 games' that end up being 12 games repeated over and over. I just hate for someone to be bummed if there are repeats. I think that for play value, these systems can't be beat- there are some great titles.
  20. These clones take Famicom carts, have built in games, and have a second 9 pin port, and are in good condition. None include power supply, but all take 4 AA batteries. The all have simple AV outs. I will include an AV cable if requested to the first to purchase- but I only have one AV cable to spare. The guns are untested- I couldn't get either to work with Duck Hunt on any of the consoles, so maybe I'm using them wrong- the guns are as is. They are all sold tested, as described and functional. All include the battery cases. $14 Super Joy III - the grey one - has 68 or so games listed, and I didn't notice repeats, but there could be some. These have some cool titles like Contra, Galaga, Burgertime, Pac-man and many more. Comes with a gun. $5.50 shipping with the gun. $12 Megajoy II - the blue one - seems to have fewer games than the other two (repetition factor), but has at least 20 games built in. comes with a gun. $8 Super Joy III - the red one - same as above, but I couldn't get sound out of it. Could be my fault, but sold with that caveat. No gun. $12 Power Joy PJ-08 pirate multicart cartridge only with alot of games- at least 30, but there are more than 60 listed. Excellent condition. $3.50 Genesis clone controller seems to be unused, with joystick screw-on for gamepad and slow mode (presumably a start repeater like those for the NES) Free shipping with any other item. $2.50 shipping. I would like to get $7.50 for it (Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2 boxed, no instructions) +$3 shipping in the US, $4 to Canada or $5 anywhere else. 21. I wish I'd waited for this deal. Would have saved me $5. I can't really complain, as I've enjoyed Mr. Driller for DS quite a bit already. Did you hear me say Time Attack? Time Attack!
  22. Aha DTP! I recognize you from eBay, yes? Fine taste in 8-bit computer stuff?! Anyway, no 8-bit Atari computer stuff or 2600 stuff being listed that would be in your league. Some other old stuff like Nintendo Game and Watches and NES and a nice Coleco Galaxian tabletop will go. Plus loads of other goofy stuff. I'll try to post an ad mid-week for the lot. I need cash to pay for more video game stuff, as usual. And right back at you Dojosky- thanks again for the goodies and fast service.
  23. http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...0&userid=ianoid I will be listing a load more stuff tomorrow, so please have a look and spend a buck. All proceeds immediately recycled into the video game community.
  24. So my biggest best thing on the eBay chopping block is visiable at this link. A good condition Sunnyvale heavy sixer Atari 2600 in original box with a stack of boxed games. http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...0&userid=ianoid I hope to add a bunch of SNES, NES and N64 to my store site at www.joystickjockeys.com today.
