  1. Ok, so after exercising the power switch, I get a faint LED light up, sometimes bright for an instant, but no picture. Testing through RF to simplify since the modern Jag AV to S-video adapter might add another layer of confusion.

  2. Got the cage off, and whoa this is cool, it has through hole radial electrolytic. Wouldn’t be too tough, but the caps look great.

And to clarify, one day the unit powered on and then quit after 15 minutes of play, then the next day didn’t work at all.  No LED light up when I push the power switch.

I sprayed some contact cleaner in the switch and cleaned up the lint but no improvement.

  3. Jaguar stopped working for me randomly.

Power from the original PS is tested to be 12v and the one I got from Console5 is tested to be 9v tip negative. I know it’s supposed to be 9v, but do those Atari PS units sometimes test high and correct to 9V under load?

Next question. Maybe it’s the power switch? Eww!

Is it a requirement to recap these things to keep them working long term?

Finally, should I reinstall the RF cage when I reassemble it?

  4. Not a fan of this seller. Sold me some boxed games but shipped them in a bubble mailer so the boxes were smashed. No interest in working anything out, like a partial refund. I would discourage buying from them.

  5. Nice work! Getting Apple II computers to work is good fun.

Now check out some unique titles for the system. I recommend IO Silver, the Bilestoad, Swashbuckler, Choplifter (great with two button joystick, but not unique), Decathlon and Microwave off the top of my head. Microwave has some crazy programming tricks to play music during the game.

  6. I bid on and won a few of those SSI titles in the second round by the seller. I saw that some went a bit crazy in the first round. I just program the snipes when I see things I want pop up and forget about them. The only thing I was sad to have missed was Shard of Spring since that would have been a nice upgrade from my CIB copy in rough shape.

The tough thing about A2 collecting is that there just isn't that much stock out there. There hasn't been a ton for a decade or so, but it's been especially slim pickins in the last year or so. Just nothing to buy. So if you are really into SSI, or RPGs, or sealed titles, I can see how you might be making a big buy knowing you haven't bought anything good for 6 months and don't anticipate a bunch more to buy in the coming months. I don't necessarily believe in overpaying, and I prefer to pay less, but I also can see the value in sealed games in both the short term and the long term.

Supply side as it is, there is a ton of crazy speculation that is totally unjustified in the form of sky high buy it nows and minimum bids. People just make up the prices and hope for the best, then the other sellers jump on the bandwagon not wanting to miss out on that extra buck. Maybe those guys trying to sell at sky high prices know something? (No, they are deluded.) And then the overpriced stuff sits gathering dust for months or years. And irritates people like me for whom it clutters their search results with junk.

Not sure why you'd bother paying for sealed games when CIB is way less expensive. If you like the smell of old air, it's expensive air. I can see how it would neat to crack old games. I just don't do it.

What do you use for the plastic baggies on the Softalk mags?
I have some 1984 Macworld issues that I'd like to bag up, but they're quite large and non-standard sizewise as far magazines go.

I'm into right fitting PPE archival bags, so thanks for asking.

When something doesn't fit in a standard 8x11 bag, I use a 9x11. I keep both on hand but I use way more 8x11s.

  9. @Yoruk Thanks for the advice.

The Atari ones all came up as Pole Position ROMs, which is neat. The rest I could not get matches.

I need to find more ROM matching websites since I have other random computer ROMs to check as well. If anyone has any suggestions as to the best sites that search all MAME ROMs including system ROMs, I'd be appreciative.

I know there is a Chip Tester build that has a ton of built in checksums. I use backbit.io's Chip Tester Pro for dumping and it doesn't have a super extensive checksum database. Actually it does match most carts, but the stuff I'm dumping is not often a typical release cart.
