  1. Very cool concept for a game! I tried the demo but unfortunately I'm not very good with hard puzzles, but that's just an issue I have. I'm very curious to see it complete nonetheless, with enemies and stuff!

  2. This an amazing take on both Berzerk and Frenzy! I love everything about it: the enemy details, the multiple projectiles, the new enemies. It's so, sooo much better than the original game! The homing robot is my favorite addition - it reminds me of the Revenants from Doom and I love how much it adds to the gameplay loop.

Unfortunately there's a HUGE flaw on the design that just spoils it to me: If you play the alternate\frenzy version, you can easily get infinite lives by just holding the shooting button into Evil Otto. It's ridiculously broken and kills the balance of the game because there's no effort to get it - just aim to the spawn point indefinitely and that's it, infinite points and lives. Destroying blocks can also be abused to get lives without effort - I know it's how it is on Frenzy, but on that game Evil Otto is very difficult to hit, so going for extra points is still a risk-reward situation.

My suggestion to solve this issue is not giving any score points for killing Evil Otto. Otto is not hard to kill since he comes to your direction so it's no big deal in my opinion. A different suggestion is making it more like Frenzy, where Evil Otto gets progressively harder when he comes back, at the point of being impossible to kill or dodge. Not sure if this is possible tho due to the larger hit box that makes him an easy prey on any situation.

Despite my gripe, this is an amazing homebrew and one of the most fun I had on the Atari 2600 so I'm really thankful for it. I hope this can be useful somehow! :-)

    (sorry any english mistake)

  3. So, I played a bit of this. The game itself looks impressive, the plane sprites are good and the controls works well too. However the game is extremely repetitive, at the point of being unplayable after a while. I don't know how it is on the arcades, but the Atari version would need a few adaptations to alliviate the sameness of these stages.

The best way to improve this in my opinion is putting the Boss battle between three or four rounds instead of waiting so many time to appear. Switching back between the two gameplay mechanics more often would help to avoid the boredom imo.

  4. Alright, I played this one and it's really, really good!

The graphics are top-notch for an atari game and it reminds me of the bowling game that was publish here a few days ago. Good use of colours and background detail. The player character is big and well detailed while the basket sprite make good use of the black background to look convincing enough. Gameplay is simple but addictive, which is what I expect from atari games. You can clearly see where the ball is going when launched because there's a good sense of proportion between the player and the basket. There's no glitches or errors so far and the game feels polished.

I played the two versions and I think I like the first one more, because it's more dynamic overall, for example: I like how it changes the speed faster than the second version. I also like how it briefly starts with a static basket just to get you ready. Another thing I prefer on the first version is that I can see my lives (I think 3 is enough for this kind of game btw). Version 2 feels a bit more sluggish and there's less sense of progress imo, but both versions are good on it's own and are well thought.

One suggestion I would give is to add extra points to the player if he makes a diagonal shot, because it's a lot harder to hit that way compared to the straight shot. As it is, the diagonal shot feels a bit useless as there's no good reason to do that, but adding extra points would give an optional risk-reward depth to the game. I mean, I would love to see this on the first version tbh but I don't know what kind of limits are you dealing right now :-)

Btw, what exactly are the changes between the first and the second version other than what I saw already? I noticed that the second version have a continuous time limit while the first resets on each shot and of course the amount of lives is different, but I was not able to catch more than that.

Anyway, it's a very nice game and I can't wait to see more of you

(forgive me for any english mistakes)

  5. Hey, any chance of the enhanced version of this game being released to the public? I tried the prototype version but geez it's so difficult 😆

    The game looks awesome tho!

This is my second video game, and when I realized that I had surpassed the limitations of Atari, and that the repairs required more time, I lost the will to fix this one and make other games.

But I agree with what you wrote.

It's just a nitpick though. The game is pretty fun and I'm getting used to it!

  7. Hi! This is an awesome original title for the Atari 2600, lots of things to do, nice graphics and animations!

Unfortunately there's an issue on Stella. Not sure if this was mentioned already, but When I run the file there's a random chance of the game start all messed up, which means I have to close and start the rom again. The issue only happens sometimes and seems to be some sort of desync.

  8. Cool game! I love the graphics and the way how the enemy moves on the later stages. The only thing that botters me is how slow the first stage is. I know it supposed to be easy but you have to wait a lot without little to do. Maybe the enemies could shoot the player?

Anyway really cool overall. I love the background details and the enemy design.

 For the first three games, you should check the controller settings. It seems like some games use paddles which should use joysticks and vice-versa. Not sur about Grizzards, maybe it is a similar issue.

Thank you very much! That was exactly the problem, Stella auto-detected paddles instead of the joystick. I would never figure that out alone lol
Funilly enough, Grizzards was using the keyboard instead of the joystick. But all the games are working now (thanks again)!

  10. Hi! So I'm writing this up because I just don't know what to do anymore. I would appreciate any help.

I'm having some problems with weird controls on Stella, but only on some specific games. The majority of them works just fine (it's a very rare issue), but there's a few games who are completely irresponsible and for some reason I can't find anything on the internet about this issue so far. These ones simply ignore inputs or change it with other buttons, making it impossible to play at all. Here's the cases I noticed so far:

Spike's Peak: Arrow keys doesn't work. You have to press Fire to make the player move forward. He can't go backwards, he can't jump or hide on the safe spots. It's impossible to play or pass the first eagle.

Turbo (prototype): Arrow keys doesn't work. Fire move the player to the right and then the car is stuck. You can't go left or do anything else.

Wizard of Wor Arcade (homebrew): The player can't go left, but everything else works fine: he can shoot with the fire button, go up, down and right.

Grizzards (homebrew): I can't put my name right on the beginning (the initials). Moving up or down doesn't work and the game is stuck on that screen.

All those problems seems to be related somehow.
    ---------------------------
Not sure if it's useful, but here's some of my PC specs (it's an old machine):

    Spoiler

    Processor: Inter(R) Core(TM) i5-2310 CPU @2.90GHz 2.90 GHz
    RAM: 6,00 GB
    Adapter RAM: 2108 MB
    System: Windows 7, 64 bits
    Display: 1366 x 768 x 32 bpp (60 Hz)
    Renderer: Intel(R) HD Graphics 2000
    OpenGL: 3.1
    Driver Version: 9.17.10.4229 (.dll)
    DirectX: Direct X, 10.1
    Shader Model: vs_4_1, ps_4_1

    ---------------------------

So, that's it. It's very weird, since all the other games work just fine. I also tried different ROMs.
    Any idea why this happens?
