  1. Thanks. With the extra disk mappings you've added I could just keep it at 1800 permanently, but will fit a switch as there are times when I'll want to use TIPI for dsk1 Thanks, definitely need to fit a switch then Makes me wonder if there's a way to wire the TIPI CRU jumper to the p-code card on/off switch, but that's beyond me
  2. Many thanks @apersson850 for all the information, much appreciated Am going to resurrect an old iPad and just load it with the manuals and other references (don't want to kill a forest printing them out) so I can get my head around all this To start with I think I need to find my way around the system e.g. The 705.dsk boots to filer and so far I've only got back out of that by pure chance... Many thanks
  3. When booting p-code card, if the TIPI-PEB is at CRU 0x1000 (FDC at 0x1100) the p-code card doesn't attempt any access of the physical drives even when there are no TIPI drive mappings If TIPI CRU is moved to 0x1800 then p-code card works as expected The TIPI log contains only the following when set at 0x1000 regardless of any actions attempted on the p-code card: 2023-08-14 19:43:12,471 TipiService : INFO physical mode enabled 2023-08-14 19:43:12,480 TipiService : INFO TIPI Ready 2023-08-14 19:45:11,911 LevelTwo : INFO sector request 2023-08-14 19:45:11,913 LevelTwo : INFO unit: 1, sector: 4, read: 1 2023-08-14 19:45:11,914 LevelTwo : INFO no drive mapped for unit 1 2023-08-14 19:45:24,218 LevelTwo : INFO sector request 2023-08-14 19:45:24,220 LevelTwo : INFO unit: 1, sector: 4, read: 1 2023-08-14 19:45:24,220 LevelTwo : INFO no drive mapped for unit 1 2023-08-14 19:45:24,226 LevelTwo : INFO sector request 2023-08-14 19:45:24,228 LevelTwo : INFO unit: 2, sector: 4, read: 1 2023-08-14 19:45:24,228 LevelTwo : INFO no drive mapped for unit 2 2023-08-14 19:45:24,242 LevelTwo : INFO sector request 2023-08-14 19:45:24,244 LevelTwo : INFO unit: 3, sector: 4, read: 1 2023-08-14 19:45:24,244 LevelTwo : INFO no drive mapped for unit 3
  4. The ultra fine sharpie was fine enough (and smudge proof) but I decided I didn’t like my writing! In the end I printed the strips I currently wanted, from this thread thanks, onto glossy sticker paper, cut them out with a knife and stuck them onto spare strips They look good and feel strong Many thanks
  5. Bingo I used TI Disk Manager 2 and it let me format the disk as DSSD and I copied the pascal file from whtech's 705.dsk and the system now seems to run ok (other than when setting the date as it won't accept anything later than 1999, that pesky millennium bug still lives it seems) Have run a cable from the tipi so I can change CRU without opening up the PEB (though will leave it at 1800 for now) Many thanks
  6. Thanks @arcadeshopper I have no mappings on the tipi, so not sure why it's not falling over. As I don't have any need, currently, to map floppy drives I'll leave it jumpered at 1800 for now Though mapping it to 1100 (with FDC removed) may be useful for testing if the other problems are with the disks I create or the p-card Many Thanks
  7. My system disk problem was because I formatted it as DSDD Reformatted the disk as SSDD and it now accepts the disk My cc9900 won't let me format a DSDD disk as SSSD so I can't create the individual disks, but I'll plug in my spare PHP1240 in the hope it might let me create the individual disks? 'E' for Editor launches (but I don't yet know how to use it), but 'R' for run gives me "bad data" I need to read up on what is on the disk images etc. so I can create the disks to write a test program and prove it's all working
  8. It does seem to be CRU base related, but it seems like the p-code card finds the tipi (0x1000) and then doesn't fall forward to the FDC (0x1100) I've jumpered the TIPI high CRU pins and now the p-code card is finding the physical drives with the TIPI installed I guess I'll have to buy a switch as per @jedimatt42 suggestion in my peb thread (with regards to preventing tipi-peb blocking when PI powered off)
  9. Is this solution from @jedimatt42 in my PEB thread likely to be a solution please? (rather than having to remove TIPI-PEB each time) "The floppy controller CRU base is 0x1100. The TIPI CRU base in your configuration should be 0x1000, and with the switch closed, 0x1800." Many thanks
  10. Sorry. It does boot up with the TIPI-PEB installed, it just doesn't try to access the physical disk drives at any point
  11. My p-code card has arrived and appears to be functional, thankfully However, it won't seem to work with the TIPI-PEB card fitted in the PEB (whether or not the PI is on or off) Am I missing something obvious please? Do CRU bases or something come into play here or is it a known problem please? With the TIPI-PEB removed it accesses the hard drives when I select 'E' for edit but it complains it can't find the EDITOR I'm assuming it doesn't like the disk I made so will try making another Many thanks
  12. Have ordered an "ultra fine" sharpie to see what that's like
  13. Thanks, that will protect the writing from smudging I'm not sure what type of pen to use though. A biro won't write on it properly and the only other thing I have to hand is a sharpie but even though it says it's fine it's way too thick for writing on the strips I guess I need to find something similar to a sharpie but much finer. Wish I still had my draughting pens but they went a long time ago. Will have a search on amazon Many thanks
  14. I don't have an original strip for my TI-writer but I do have a dozen or so blank strips So could anyone recommend what sort of pen is best for writing on them, so they won't smudge, please? Many thanks
  15. Many thanks. Can I add Dig Dug cart to that list as well please...
  16. Thanks @arcadeshopper, maybe I’ll give it a go sometime its Microsurgeon and have ordered one from your site (+ several other items) earlier today as I figured it was probably a write off if you have Fathom Cart, Slymoids Cart or Ms Pac-Man Cart/Manual anytime I’d be interested in them thanks
  17. I have a cart that appears on the title screen, but when I select it I get a plain screen (same colour as selection screen) and a continuous tone Have cleaned the contacts and done a continuity check for all the contacts back to various components etc. on the board. All ok. Is it worth trying anything else? or just bin it please? Many thanks
  18. All done and working, many thanks for the advise/tips Nearly cut the cable too short and then nearly fitted the plug the wrong way around, but I caught myself each time!
  19. 12 copies of Parsec and the jobs done
  20. Just tried with a pair of pliers on a spare ribbon and bent the pins (was worth a try I thought, wrongly). Tried again in a big vice in the garage and that seems to of worked ok So have ordered a mini vice for doing the real thing, should arrive tomorrow, as I can't detach the cable from the circuit board and drives and don't want to cart them all out to the garage. The small vice will let me do it with the drives staying in the PEB Many thanks for the advise @Stuart
  21. I have a short cable that came with the PEB, but the long cable has extra wires running from the plugs at the drive ends that are part of the circuit that makes the 2 off 80 track drives I have work as 40 track. It’s a bit of a spaghetti tbh as there’s also a small circuit board squeezed in behind the drives. I have one of your mounting brackets holding it altogether though. Am going to use my old cc9900 to test the cable modification so I don’t damage the MG modded one (that is working a treat btw, thanks)
  22. Yes, that’s what I found thanks Will practice on a spare ribbon first
  23. Have sussed out what they are called and have a few on order, thanks
