Atari2600PAL replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Has anyone done a spine for a general folder containing various TI99 manuals please? I tried to use the psd template above but don't have photoshop Many thanks -
If the one I have coming isn't at least 240v rated I'll get one of those I think and see how I get on. Thanks

Actually it's a speaker switch, but appears physically identical to my PEB switch. Hopefully it's rated to at least 240v else I've wasted money on it as I can't think what else I'd use it for.
-
Forgot about that. The more I look at images I took inside my PEB I'm not convinced the switch will fit on the existing bracket. Am going to try a Kenwood amplifier power switch as it seems to be a pretty good match from the pictures I've seen, won't know for sure until it arrives though Thanks
-
Have you managed to try fitting this as yet please? Am thinking of ordering a couple Many thanks
-
Not sure, tbh I kind of destroyed it getting it off the board…
-
That was harder than I thought it would be! Definite improvement on RF and s-video "seems" better Anyway, it's nearly on a par with my main C64 now so will just keep it as a working spare
-
After spending some more time searching the forum it appears that the signal (to a lesser degree for s-video) does pass thru the modulator So will try installing the new modulator Strangely the existing modulator has an adjustment screw on the back which the new one doesn't (but both are PAL)

I've been working on a spare C64 breadbin motherboard and just can't get as good a s-video output as from my main C64 breadbin So my dumb question is does the PAL Modulator have ANY effect on the s-video output quality please? I have a NOS PAL modulator but don't want to waste it (or my time) fitting it if, as I suspect, there's no way it would help matters Many thanks EDIT: edited to remove superflous info

I guess it WAS a stupid question (in my defence I was thinking about the chip change needed for the TMS RGB on one of the units I think) Can I add it to my existing CC9900 order please? EDIT: Have added to existing order, if there's a postage cost issue please let me know and I'll sort with you. Many thanks Thanks -

Will it work on a stock PAL and/or NTSC unit please? -

The other problem with the component output, other than poor colour and not fitting the screen, is that every couple of seconds the screen blanks out before coming back -

No. Its the composite out from the NTSC motherboard into a PAL TV -

I did try connecting the component out to VGA in on the TV, but it just complained of no-sync -

Thanks. It was the Mitsumi keyboard I managed to load Parsec and sadly it showed I was wrong about the display. It DOES at least fit on the screen BUT Parsec was a kaleidoscope of colours Looks like I'll be using PAL RF until I can find another display that works with the component output -
Hi. I'd really like to use the component out on my PAL unit but none of my screens can cope with the output (poor colours and spills over edges of screen). An OSSC made it fit the screen but there were horrid lines running down the screen I couldn't get rid of (and I no longer use a screen that has HDMI anyway) However I do have a motherboard, keyboard and power board from an NTSC unit that seems to give a good composite output to the 4:3 screen I'm currently using (a 15" that sits on top of my peb to save space) The trouble is that I can plug it all together and it powers on with the initial splash screen (which is how I've judged that composite seems reasonably ok) but it doesn't respond to any key press. It just sits on the splash screen. No idea if it's a keyboard problem or the mobo I only have limited tools like a multi-meter and soldering iron available Is it worth trying to fix with my limited tool availability or should I just watch eBay for a working NTSC unit and get it shipped over Any thoughts please? Many thanks

Best Plain Old TI BASIC Games (w/MP3)
Atari2600PAL replied to ballyalley's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Didn't get anywhere with the phone so have settled on keeping the old Mac and iPod since it just works without needing an amp or anything -

Atari2600PAL replied to ballyalley's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I decided to try one last thing I dug out my old iPod classic 5th gen and loaded some of the MP3's onto it By putting the volume to max (and EQ to boosted treble) I could load all the mp3's I had on it (except 1) into the TI. The sound coming from the TV was very low (compared to an original tape in the TI tape deck) but it worked fine. So I decided to try and make a tape from the output of the iPod. I had to turn the volume down so it was just above mute. I then tried to load that tape into the TI and was successful once I turned down the volume on the TI tape drive (though an original tape won't load at that volume level, but not a big issue) It's all a bit of a long winded way of doing things as the iPod isn't compatible with latest MacOS (had to use an old machine that was in the disposal pile along with the iPod) so have ordered a lightning to 3.5mm jack to try the same things with my Phone Anyway, I can now make a working tape at least! Thanks for all the advise, and @OLD CS1 you were perfectly correct when you said something like "more isn't always best" thanks -

I can consistently load an mp3 from the MacBook with the volume AND the amp ramped up to maximum EDIT: Actually it's not consistent as after a few good reads it's playing up again But no joy making a tape with any of my tape decks (have tried lots of different settings from low volumes to high volumes and various EQ etc.) Have decided life's too short to spend any more time on something I can live without for now at least Thanks for all the advise though, much appreciated -

I hadn’t noticed those marks, have been running mine at just about full volume. Just tried loading an original tape with volume/tone set to the marks and it loaded ok Will try and do some more tests with the mp3’s tomorrow thanks
