  1. i believe this system could of been a head turner but its poor management with release of the hardware that has problems like have to flash the system before you can use it.

    this was a huge turn off for new consumers

    i have the system i love it but you have to be techsavy to make this thing work. not for the faint heart

  2. I Figured it out was actually pretty easy.

    First I booted in to Batocera then went in to file manager.

    Go to /media/storage/user.var/bundles

    you will see 2 folders under /bundles

    one will be for guest account and one will be your actual account

    I ended up copying the whole /bundles foler.

    copy the whole directory and replace the whole folder on the new VCS drive.

  3. who here has recently upgraded there ram?. im currently looking at 32GB @ 3200Mhz ram but I hear some are a hit and miss with what is working rumor is parts supplied has changed.

    Crucial = some work
    G.Skill = some work
    Team Elite group = some work

    Kingston Fury confirmed working on this Atari vcs discord but its a bit pricy

    Kingston FURY Impact 32GB (2 x 16GB) 260-pin SO-DIMM DDR4 3200 MHz CL20 Black Memory (KF432S20IBK2/32)

    I'm wondering if anything has changed in the latest bios/firmware updates to support more ram??
    does anyone know if ram voltages and CAS latency is also a factor???

    I had a similar thought a while back - if Atari ceased all VCS support, some scripts could be created to transfer a users purchases to a Linux install, configure them and add them to the desktop.

    For me at this point, I do it manually for each item I buy - I don't really use the AtariOS to play games, just to buy stuff to be honest.  Most stuff 'just works' requiring little more than a launcher and icon (although I do copy them over to the Linux drive so as not to risk damaging the original).

    (Some caveats, I've only ever tested any of this on Ubuntu and Linux Mint (based on Ubuntu), not sure about other distros.  Also, I don't know if online stuff in games work as I don't use those things.)

    Attached pic showing my Linux 'start' menu and installed VCS games (with some others).

    can you please share how you get this menu screen on linux?

    I can boot to atariOS (also on other hardware) and buy games I can also browse the game folder and launch games by simply double clicking on the game under ubuntu

    I'm still a bit of a noob when it comes to linux but I would love to learn more.

    Hmm, I should see how hard it'd be to get it onto a microSD card and get it booted on the Steam Deck, could be a perfectly portable AtariVCS.

    could be any portable handheld

    this would be sweet to have both emulators/steamos/atarios all on one handheld

    Honestly, I use the Atari OS just to buy and download the games.  I have a M.2 fitted in my VCS and by default it boots into an Atari themed Linux install.  This let's me mount the storage partition, access those dashboard files and because VCS games are just Linux games, I can backup and run them directly.  End result is my setup let's me run all my Linux development and productivity stuff, access all my media content, Steam and GOG games, all my Atari 2600, Atari 8-bit and ST/Falcon stuff and play my VCS games from the desktop.

    hi newb here can you please share how your able to run backuped games on your linux desktop.

    ive already got atarios running on a laptop via the factory image and ihave purchaced games can you please share what needs to be done to load vcs games on a linux platform?

    It has been shown the AtariOS can be booted on hardware, images and videos have been shown it booting on laptops and desktops with various degrees of success, meaning issues with networking, sound etc, sound is sometimes fixed plugging in a USB audio device etc. ??more surprises, while the AtariOS USB stick I created worked on my desktop and a up laptop to various degrees it didn’t work on my old bedroom desktop, due to no no uefi boot options. I also imaged this Sata drive, plugged into 2011 MacBook Pro and held down option key when booting, displayed a drive called efi and it booted, Bluetooth even seems to be working though I have no Bluetooth controller, no network though I am sure it would be fine if I plugged in Ethernet. Figured would not hurt to try ?Nice use for the old recycle bin find MacBook! I had yet to see this done on Apple hardware so thought I would share.

    i too got this running on a mid-2012 macbook pro with I7 2.9ghz and 16GB or ram.. runs kinda sluggish. but the latest production image sound works and bluetooth but no wifi. Lan works

    I also tried this on a HP X2 1013 G3

    16.00 GB ram and Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8350U CPU @ 1.70GHz runs way smoother but no wifi no bluetooth. i can play with my 8bitdo controller USB mode and plugged into lan.

    everything works, store purchaces and game play as if i were on a actual Atari VCS
