Wow, $18 shipped, doesn't cost that much to ship

You're correct, it didn't cost that much to ship.  My initial estimate was based on a USPS medium priority flat-rate box which costs $17.10.  I was able to package these carts in x 6"x6"x6" box with sufficient padding and get a custom USPS priority shipping rate from here (Tallahassee) to the buyer in West Virginia of $7.02.

Occasionally, for small items, where price must be kept especially low, or where tracking is not needed, I will use USPS ground advantage.  Otherwise, I generally prefer USPS priority over other methods because it's usually fast, arrives with your regular mail, can be shipped to PO boxes and includes $100 of built-in insurance.  Also, if the receiver uses the USPS informed delivery service, it will not only provide detailed tracking updates, but will also automatically notify the receiver when a shipping label for your address has been created.

I need the space on my shelf, so I'm giving away these six extra duplicate carts for free plus $18 USPS priority shipping (CONUS) to the first person to PM me.

  3. I've recently restored and repaired a Compaq Portable III 386.

This project was a pleasant surprise in more ways than one. For a long time I’ve only thought of Compaq branded computers as exceptionally cheaply made, mass produced commodity appliances. While this was certainly true during the later Pentium-era years as Compaq, Dell and Gateway raced to bottom of the retail market, I’ve been pleased to learn this wasn’t the case with the Compaq Portable line.

This 1987 Compaq Portable III 386 is well documented online and its hardware has been extensively explored by others. One fan has even created an entire website devoted to the Compaq Portable family. In this article I will just be showing a few specific aspects of this repair and restoration which I found interesting, and sharing some more tips with you.

The complete article can be found on my website. - https://retrorenovations.net/2023/10/1987-compaq-portable-iii-386/

  4. As I mentioned in my in my introductions forum post, this is to announce the creation of a new group. The Tallahassee Vintage Computer Club!

My goal is to have monthly meetings, share our love of all things computing and help each other with our ongoing projects. I'm working with another local entrepreneur, who is building the Anime Garage Cafe in Tallahassee, FL to establish a place with suitable space to both meet and set up computers from my personal collection to share.

I'll need all the help I can get and I'll keep y'all updated with our progress as it happens. Very exciting!
