By the way, did Analogue release all the advertised cart adaptors for the Pocket? I didn't follow that too closely, but if they haven't, perhaps they should finish what they started?

Nope. My younger brother is one of the people that pre-orders the cart adaptors for the pocket and he still didn't get his cart adaptor yet.

I mean in order to vote for the best game, perhaps you should have had the opportunity to play some of them? The other explanation is that 80% of the customers on the AtariAge Store are not active on the AtariAge forum, or at least don't bother about the awards.

I can tell you that the percentage is likely higher for not active on the forum.

My younger brother buys games from the Atariage store, but never signed up to be a member of the forums to my knowledge.

I'm guessing Bubble Bobble is the game.

  4. The Atari 7800 not having a port of Rainbow Islands makes perfect sense. The timing wasn't there for the 7800 getting Rainbow Islands during its commercial life considering Taito was publishing games for NES, Pc Engine, Sega Genesis and I believe SMS at the time.

As far as Rainbow Islands not having a homebrew port, there is a lot of explanations of why not.

Atari 7800 homebrew cartridges from the Atariage Store couldn't go higher than 48k for many years before there was a board that is able to do 128k,144k and 256k Atari 7800 cartridge sized  homebrew games.  I think it was around 2014 to 2017 time frame when Atariage store first was able to sell Atari 7800 homebrew games that were 128k or higher in cartridge size. This is a key fact because I feel Rainbow Islands is one of those games needs to be a cartridge higher than a 48k cartridge size to do the game justice.

The Atariage store for many years had issues getting Pokey sound chips for 7800 games.

The  3rd thing with the 7800 homebrew scene  is the scene does not have a lot of homebrew authors that do arcade ports compare to the amount of Arcade games that do not a have a port of the 7800. You might as well attempt a 7800 homebrew port as a result.

The 4th thing with the homebrew scene is homebrew authors usually don't take requests for homebrew arcade ports. The 5th thing is Arkanoid and Tetris are the only 2 arcade game homebrew authors to my knowledge that have been attempted that came out in the arcade after 1984.

The final thing is I know based on posts on this forum that there are people want Bubble Bobble on the 7800 and that likely means Rainbow Island is not high on priority considering Bubble Bobble and Rainbow Islands are part of the same series.

  5. Analogue Duo is something I consider.

I am a Tg-16 owner with an adapter to play to play Pc engine cards.  I became a Tg-16 owner around 2005 or 2006. I stayed from the CD side of the system for a reason.  I read Turbo duo has a history of durability issues. I read in the past the pc engine Duo R systems are the best in durability, but the demand has affected the price.

  6. I am not surprised with the 2 Collections being announced. I remembered Blazing mentioned a 2nd C64 collection last year and I recalled the same with Toaplan collection 2.

Going into this year, C64 collection 2, Toaplan Collection 2, and Amiga Collection 1 were basically automatics for this year for Evercade collections with the only question was when in 2023. I mentioned Amiga because in October of last year, Blaze announced a partnership with Amiga.

  7. I doubt Atariage would do a custom cartridge. What happened is the homebrew author only wants it as a rom only release and did not ask for Capcom's permission.  The 2nd thing is the game uses a YM2151 sound chip for music. Game sound for the game is TIA.

The only way by cartridge is Flash Cartridge, but not all can do the game due to the YM2151 sound chip. I know Dragonfly Flash cart is able to. I know Retro HQ's 7800 GD Cartridge will be able to handle the game when the 7800 GD comes out.

I am looking forward to 2023's releases.

On a Q&A session on the Evercade Discord, the Evercade crew said that a TG-16/PC_Engine catridge was likely as the system can emulate that console.  :D

I would expect a TG-16/Pc Engine cartridge to be much different than the games on the TG-16 Mini.  I think Blaze getting an agreement with Konami is not going to be easy without certain stuff in an agreement like what happened with Namco and Capcom. Konami owns Hudson Soft.

A Tg-16/Pc Engine game cartridge would have games from Telenet, Data East, and Irem. I mentioned Telenet because the company that has rights to Renovation IP games also has rights games that Telenet published in Japan.

Tep was working with Curt on the XM when Curt passed. Mark was long gone before that. He's code locust. He shows up randomly, steals people's proprietary code, pretends to help them for a short time, makes a bunch of empty promises, and then cusses everyone out and leaves when he can't deliver.

I know Perry was working with Curt when he died. I know Tep had problems with Mark also with the 7800 XM also.  I do have proof of Curt claiming Mark was working on the 7800 XM in 2020 although that is odd.

Curt Mentioned Mark aka Groovybee working on the User end bios on March 11, 2020 post:

If Mark aka Groovybee wasn't working on the user end bios according March 11th, 2020, why would Curt claimed Mark was working on it?

Also this is a link that showed Curt mentioned he emailed Mark about the bios on July 18th, 2020 post:  https://forums.atariage.com/topic/300377-xm-has-shipped/?do=findComment&comment=4588420

that is a bit of an understatement.

He jumped over to the Intellivision scene caused a bit of a ruckus (as you can see in that link you posted) and he jumped right on out and kept going.

He was nice enough at PRGE2016, but he hasn't been seen on AtariAge since July of 2018

Mark was involved with Atariage members past July of 2018. He was still was one of the Volunteers of the Atari 7800 XM past July of 2018. Curt Vendel mentioned his involvement as late as July of 2020.  I was under the impression Mark was still involved with the project based what Curt mentioned at the time with him used terms like email.

A month after Curt sent an Email to Mark, Curt past away.  I don't know if anyone for the 7800 XM team contacted Mark after Curt's death. I know the project was on hold due to Curt's death and is assumed canceled. I am sure the need to contact Mark for the 7800 XM is not there since the project almost vaporware. I know a small amount of people got the 7800 XM that worked on the project including Mark himself I believe. The other thing is he's not  a well liked person due to his past actions and him not being contacted does make sense.

As far as the Intellivision scene goes with him, he was not completely honest with those people. The fact is Mark was working on the 7800 XM at times despite taking money for the 2 Intellivision games. Mark also was doing other Intellivision projects after accepting money for the 2 pre-order games.

Try anything from Bandai and Broderbund (yes, even the version of Lode Runner is kind of meh when compared to the home computer releases of the era).

Dragon Spirit: The New Legend is a good shooter. It is one the first NES games that I owned.

I know there differences from the Arcade version of Dragon Spirit, but it does not  change the fact Dragon Spirt: The New Legend is good, fun game.

True. What about Sonic? Sonic on the 2600, C64, and Amiga? Wow.

Sega is not like Nintendo with IPS.

Sonic is not a problem to my knowledge. Atariage Store does have Sega IP games and Albert never received a C & D from Sega unlike Nintendo.

  13. I read Evercade EXP pre-orders start on September 6th. Blaze will have a special announcement on September 2nd for Everade EXP release date, time of the pre-orders, and the bonus content included for the Evercade EXP.

The controls for many of the Intelly games that used the keypad numbers is what will stop many games from appearing on a future collection.  The Imagic games would be nice to be included like Demon Attack!  I wonder if there will be a collection 3... my guess is not likely.

Demon Attack is no go to my understanding. Blaze explained on a podcast that they were very close to a contract with Activision. They were 90 percent done with a contract with Activision when something happened. That contract for doing Imagic games for Intellivision and Activision games for the 2600.

Blaze also tried with EA, but Ea wasn't interested.

  15. I found out something earlier today on a Evercast on Youtube. It was confirmed by a Blaze Employee on that podcast that 2 C64 collections are going to be on Evercade. It is not known what the games are going to be. The games will be announced, but also there is supposed to be an announcement next week that is not C64 related.

What I know is Blaze has a business relationship with the company responsible for C64 mini and the A 500 mini.

  16. My younger brother had no problems with for the Mega SG, the Super Nt, and the Mega SG adaptors. My younger brother got the Mega SG adaptors in 2020. The adaptors in question are the Sg-1000/mark III adaptor, Game Gear Adaptor, and the mycard adaptor.

He got the Mega Sg and the Super NT in 2019 or 2018 with no problem.

  17. Irem Arcade 1 and Toaplan arcade 1 & 2 are great additions to Evercade. I recalled last years mentioning Irem and Toaplan being arcade cart possibilities. Those collections help out people that are fans of shoot'em ups like myself. Snow Bros. is one of my all time favorite games.

The handheld announcement caught me off guard. I am not pleased with the handling of the original Evercade. While the original can play upcoming games, not able to update it if the upcoming games have glitches is a big grip. I know the final update is coming up later this year, but this concern is with future collections.

The Evercade EXP is a nice upgrade in terms of what is known about it before September. I like the wifi feature for able to upgrade firmware with it because it beats the original Evercade handheld for that. The resolution change and the amount of buttons is not a shock considering the Evercade Vs. has. That being said, having a vertical mode on the Evercade EXP is a great future considering the nature of some games.

I am likely to get the Evercade EXP due to the final firmware update coming later this year for the original handheld.

Crazy Burger put out a video speculating on the next Evercade carts.

It is indeed speculation as it's anyone's guess right now.

I would like to see Neo Geo titles and PC Engine/TG-16 games on the Evercade.  And he does bring up a point - why no computer titles like ZX Spectrum, Amiga, Amstrad, Commodore 64, etc?

There is going to be some answers on May 31st. Blaze is having their Evercade 2nd anniversary show on May 31st at 17:00 bst/18:00 cet/12:00 est/9:00 Pst. All those times are in different time zones.

Blaze mentioned the Evercade 2nd anniversary show is going to have next cartridges, some of their biggest hits, and some very big news.

Just got home from it today.  It was kind of nice there weren't many hanging around the WATA booth in the vendor area.    It would of been nicer if WATA weren't invited at all due to their reputation. Some vendors still were using eBay as it's pricing guides; one of them was kind of a snot located near the Mario and Peach inflatables as he wanted full price for a sealed Microvision Bowling game.

When I was at the Midwest Gaming Classic last year, I don't see a lot hanging around the WATA booth either and I did see the same thing as you did this year. I hope not all of people hanging around the Wata booth happens at other shows Wata Games is a vendor at.

What I know is one of the vendors did have a problem this year. I am referring to the vendor that sold Intellivision games. Of the sellers at that stand had a sheet of prices missing after a transaction happened with some customers before my younger and I either made it to the stand or start looking. My younger brother and I heard this on Saturday morning or early Saturday afternoon.

Well that’s a Pretty interesting fact, but i still wonder that if that atari 7800 was released in november/december of 1984,while it had been a success or would consumers just did had low interests in it as well?

also what would,ve happen had atari released their atari 5200 jr instead along with games such as donkeykong and donkeykong jr and pac land for it and possibly bundled just in case, would it had been a success? And would it had saved the 5200 from it’s grace?

we would probably never know but if atari did it, i might have bought the atari 5200 jr with all it’s nintendo games plus pac man and pac land for it on ebay instead, also since the 5200 has a pokey soundchip unlike the 7800,shame.

Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr would not be on the 5200 no matter the cause due to Coleco having the game console rights to the game and Coleco refused to publish games for 5200.

Atari 5200 Jr./Atari 5100 was going to come out in 1984 or late 1983. I don't know the date it was worked on, but I know it was canceled at some point before May of 1984. Pac-Land itself is a question mark for the Atari 5200 as game. The game itself can't be a part of bundle in 1984. Pac-land came out in the Arcades that year and usually game console ports usually don't happen in the same year as it was released in the arcade. What makes it a question mark is the potential cartridge size. The biggest 5200 game ever made for the 5200 on cartridge was 40k, but how much of it was cost. The best way to put cost for game cartridges is size of Intellivision homebrew games now compare to the 1980s. The homebrew games didn't use any additional hardware for games like Intellivania, but were bigger in game size. I don't think Pac-land was going to be a big hit for the 5200 if was possible. The popularity of the Pac-man games from 1980 to 1984 was at its peak with its first two games of the franchise.

What I do know is Track & Field, Stargate aka defender II, Jr. Pac-Man, A.E.(Computer game port), Blaster (arcade game port),Final Legacy(computer game port), The Last Star Fighter, Millipede, and Xevious were supposed to be released in 1984 for the 5200 since prototypes of them were found.

I don't think the 5200 Jr. would help much except for cost for sales. The controller to my understanding was a turnoff and I've tried the 5200 at the Midwest Gaming Classic in the past. Its not a great controller. What determines the improvement of sales is games and exclusive games. I know the 5200 had rumor mill games like Elevator Action, Crystal Castles, Krull(based on Arcade game) Food fight,  and Galaga. It depends on what else could've been planned for the 5200 if it was not discontinued in May of 1984 without the 7800 existing.

The 5200 though would've been replaced in 1986 or 1987 by a newer Atari System that was going to be more powerful than the 7800. That means the 5200 would not doing a lot of post 1985 arcade game releases. I said more powerful than the 7800 because the 7800 was supposed to released in 1984 at $140.00 and Tramiel launch the system at much cheaper price in 1986. That means a more ram, better sound chip if released in 1986. The 5200 replaced in 1987 would be replaced by a system in specs similar to a Tg-16 or a game console with a 6800 processor.

but still i think that it was good that jack tramiel delayed the atari 7800 by 2 years(alltrough it was testmarketed in late 1984),why? Because 2 years prior in 1982 they already released their (failed) atari 5200 so why would you actually wanna come too fast with a new console,so that’s why i think he did it right to delay the 7800 nation wide untill 1986,

I have to do a wall of text here.

You have your timeline wrong for the Test Market. The 7800 was test marketed in June of 1984, not late 1984. Late 1984 was supposed to be the national launch date, not the test market date before Jack Tramiel came into the picture.

Jack Tramiel did not complete the deal to buy the consumer division assets of Atari before July 1st, 1984. Tramiel ended the 1984 test market because Warner did not pay GCC for working on the 7800 game console and that meant Tramiel inherited it. There was an argument between Tramiel and Warner for who was going to pay GCC for developing the 7800 game console and GCC was not paid till May of 1985 for the Game Console. Tramiel had to do additional negotiations to GCC for paying them for the launch titles. The 3rd thing is Tramiel got a rid of a lot of people in 1984 when he bought the assets of the consumer division and that meant Tramiel had to hire a person to run the video game department.

Before you question me on Tramiel hiring a person for the video game department, what you have to understand Tramiel renamed Tramel Technology LTD to Atari Corporation after the purchase of the assets of Atari Consumer division. Tramiel founded Tramel Technology on May17th, 1984 with the plans of releasing a new computer after Jack left Commodore in January of 1984.  Tramel Technology LTD did not have a video game division before the purchase and that companies focus was on Computers. What Tramiel was doing was selling left over inventory of anything before the Atari ST came out and that meant he could do that without having a person in charge of a video game division since there was no new video games Atari Corporation was releasing before 1986. Additional proof Tramiel being interest in computers first is Tramiel not buying the Arcade division of Atari.

You also are ignoring huge flaw with Tramiel waiting till 1986 to release the 7800. The huge flaw is a good number of 7800 launch titles were somewhat dated in 1984 and became even more dated by releasing them in 1986. Having those titles go against the SMS and the NES in 1986 is going to look outdated due to what the SMS and the NES had in 1986.

I called the 1984 launch titles somewhat dated in 1984 because Joust, Ms. Pac-man, Robotron, Dig Dug, Centipede, and Asteroids were already released on other Atari game consoles. What 7800 could've had in 1986 was games like Marble Madness and Paperboy if the 7800 was released in 1984 and the arcade division was not split. Paperboy and Marble Madness in 1986 7800 releases wouldn't have been labeled as dated. Some of the 7800's computer ports in 1987 also could've been released before 1987.

What I am painting is the 7800 had games released later than they should've been due to when the system itself was released. Nintendo's contracts did play a role, but not for all games that were released on the 7800 such as Midnight Mutants. Games like Midnight Mutants would've been release in 1987, 1988 or even 1989 instead of 1990 if the 7800 was released in 1984.
