    Like Rikki and Vikki,

Great choice, but don't know if the 7800 emulator Blaze Entertainment uses for Evercade needs to be updated for able to play the game.  I don't know possible to update that emulator.

The game's hardware is unique compare other 7800 homebrew games when Rikki and Vikki first came out. The game had mappers, 512k for gameplayer, another 256k for sound, and custom made sound chip.

That sound chip at would be an issue if there is one.

  2. Blaze made it known today that they are going to announce arcade games next week.

They did have a 19 second video. That video did have sounds that seem to be either a beat'em up or head to head to head fighting game.

I'm wondering what the VS will have in store for the unlockable games in the future?  Could Gods be an unlockable game using the 2 cart method?  But it could also be Magic Pockets at the same time.  Who really knows... lol.  It will be fun to learn what cart combos unlock what.  It's going to be fun!

On another thought... could there be a second collection with Gods, Cadaver and Magic Pockets?  Might be a bit thin in content but I'm thinking Gods would be the main draw... who knows.

At this time, Gods is no go based on what I read on the Evercade twitter account.  Gods was unavailable to license due to other agreements according Blaze Entertainment.

  4. It is a good collection. I own the SMS and the Gameboy version of Xenon 2: Megablast. I never played the Genesis version, but I'm assuming  the version is fun like the other 2 I have.

I'm surprised that Evercade now has the Sega Master System Emulator. The people of Blaze confirmed Speedball is the Sega Master system version. They also did say more Master system games are coming.

    • Thanks 1
  5. I saw the OEB Pete live stream with Blaze's Sean Cleaver. There was some good information mentioned outside of the Intellivision games like there would be Collector's edition for the Evercade vs. I think people are going to be happy with Evercade products are being worked on like Evercade VS. carry case and stuff like a Evercade t-shirt.

I am surprised that Princess Quest is on Intellivision Collection 1. It gives me a reason for getting this collection since I own an Intellivision compilations already.

I've played Princess Quest before since I own a Colecovision Flashback. I think it's a good addition.

As for the 7800, it can come out later, sure, but it most certainly needs tilemaps, better sprites, smooth scrolling horizontally, diagonally, and vertically, the full better sound (not 1977 sound, geez), and a way to get more third party support.

The Atari 7800 did have scrolling games and there are scrolling homebrew games to this day. I'm giving you the names of the homebrew and prototype 7800 games.

The 7800 prototype game Toki  is a scrolling game and there is youtube videos on it. You can not play Toki though due to the rom not being released to the public.  Plutos and Sirius are prototype games that are scrolling shooters.

Failsafe does scrolling in its game also. Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest has parallax scrolling. Dragon's Havoc is a horizontal shooter that its last bin was released in February this year, but I believe its not completed.

So, the trailer went live today.

Evercade VS - Announcement Trailer - YouTube

    Whaddyathink?

The Controller options are great. The option of 4 controllers able to be used on the system is option if there are 4 people that want to play 4 player games on the system. The big surprise to me was the ability to put 2 Evercade Cartridges in the system. The price also is reasonable.

I am not surprised about the 2 Namco Collections not working on the Evercade VS.

  9. Mega Cat Studios Collection 2 was announced today for Evercade.

    https://www.evercade.co.uk/mega-cat-studios-collection-2-cartridge/

This was a surprised announcement this week and I am very pleased about it. I know Blaze announced ahead of time there was supposed a Collection announcement this week, but this was not the first thing I thought of. Having more Indie titles release on Evercade is a great thing and the first Mega Cat Studios Collection was one of the best Collections released on Evercade so far.

Or maybe they felt Missile Command 2600 didn't stink, and it was good enough for the 7800?

Yeah I know a lot of you guys love your 2600s, but I have to admit when I first saw Asteroids 2600 I though "what the *** is this crap!?" (actually I had a similar reaction to the Atari 400/800 version too).  Donkey Kong and DKJr were also weak on the 2600, Ms. Pac Man was at least an improvement on Pac-Man, Joust was okay, and Missile Command actually looked quite good (IMHO).  The odd one for me is Defender.   Defender 2600 was another stinker, and could have benefitted greatly from the 7800s better hardware.  Williams signed off on Robotron 2084 for the 7800, so why not a Defender or Stargate release?

Wasn't Bob Decrescenzo working on a port or am I remembering that wrong?

Bob was working on Defender, but I don't if he went back to it.

But how to create a higher-margin deluxe 7800 package?  Atari killed off the keyboard attachment and the XM expansion (or whatever it was going to be called) and had torched the relationship with GCC.  Nintendo had their light gun and a dance pad.  For the 7800 Atari had.... a sexy euro-style controller?

Atari did not kill of the XM expansion, but did kill off the keyboard attachment. Warner had plans of making the 7800 into a full blown computer by able to use the Atari 8 bit computer peripherals despite not able to use Atari 8 bit software. The expansion port was for something else. The XM was not in plans or anything under GCC or Atari. The only stuff that could have a connection with the XM and Atari was the high score cartridge, the pokey sound chip and the keyboard. The difference is Atari had the high score as cartridge and the XM was going to have the high scores as a built in feature.

The expansion port for the original Atari 7800 model was rumored for a laser Disc add-on. I have a bad feeling that the Laser Disc add-on would have been a flap. I don't think a physical prototype of it exists for the 7800, but I would not be surprised if the laser Disc add-on was planned though because Atari was doing laser disc games in the arcade such as Firefox and Coleco had plans of a laser disc player for the Colecovision/Adam computer. If that Laser Disc add-on was actually  planned, Tramiel canceled it like did to some other 7800 stuff.

Tramiel was the person responsible for canceling the keyboard, canceling GCC's design of a new sound chip for putting in 7800 games, and canceling a duel joystick holder for games such as Robotron 2084.

Curt Vendel first mentioned about the XM in 2009 on this forum. Curt had the keyboard stuff including software for the 7800 that was planned before Tramiel canceled it. Curt wanted that stuff to be available for 7800 owners. Curt also did look at sound chip and ram being a potential program for homebrew 7800 games in the future back in 2009. Homebrew programmers back in the 2009-2010 time frame gave import on what stuff stuff like sound chips and amount of ram. The XM also was supposed to be able to use keyboards and the Atari 8 bit computer peripherals. The xm had 128k ram, Pokey sound chip and YM2151 sound chip. The amount of ram, and the YM2151 sound was too expansive for being part of an add-on if happened in 1985 or 1986. The ram in the XM and the 2 sound chips were planned for homebrew programmers and keep the price down for Atari 7800 homebrew cartridges. There was no 7800basic in 2009, but there was a small amount of home programmers attempting or completing games for the 7800 at the time.

That still does not explain the podcast. You can not do a podcast without a real person. That meant the person existed when the podcast was made.

You have another problem. People on Atariage actually heard of Bill Wilkinson including a couple people who posted in this thread that were not named Zipp.

Amazon also has Bill's books. Here is Inside Atari DOS with Bill listed as the Author:

Never heard of him, and frankly, he sounds made-up.  Who actually liked the XE or ST keyboards?  Only some made-up person.  That is, unless you, the person reading this right now did, in which case, make sure to tell me that not fully 100% of users disliked it.

Bill Wilkinson was a real person. He died on November 10, 2015 of multiple myeloma.  His son posted on Atariage as Microby in 2015.

  14. I can't answer the poll. It really depends of the programmer. Each homebrew developer is different  and I respect that when it comes to sharing roms. The roms released for play testing reasons only.

I played WIP games on the pro system emulator before the emulator became outdated. When I checked out homebrew works in progress in the past, it was for stuff like glitches and how the game plays.

  15. 1.) Cosmic Star Heroine - Nintendo Switch

This is a physical copy of the game that I beaten. I started the game in the later part of 2020 and didn't play it ever week. Comic Star Heroine is a very good  and quick rpg.

It is a cross of  Chrono Trigger and Phantasy Star. It also has a Suikoden element that recruiting people. For a turn based rpg, the battle system, sound and storyline were done well. The graphics are a 16 bit feel. The game is a 15 to 20 hour turn based rpg due to its side quests and the pacing of the game.

Does anyone know when the Indie Heroes Collection 1 will be coming out?  I looked on the Evercade website and found no release date.

I read an update today on this on the Evercade Twitter account. There is a time frame for the collection now. The Twitter account posted the Indie Heroes Collection 1 game Anguna and mentioned the game will be released in May 2021.

It is not for pre-order yet. Indie Heroes Collection 1 now will be released in the same month as Worms Collection 1.

I think nobody outside of Blaze Entertainment knows at this time when the collections comes out. I checked out their tweet page and nothing there either for a release date.

I'm guessing they are waiting till Indie Heroes Collection 1 gets a pre-order announcement.

It's a shame micro machines couldn't have made the collection. The NES one and mega drive's turbo tournament '96 were special favorites of mine, and non-pal region didn't see that second one.  They'd probably have needed the 'top gear' treatment where it gets renamed. Nobody remembers what a micro machine was (despite them being on store shelves again), so that's now a silly license to obtain.

EA buying codemasters--I have a feeling they're going the way of bullfrog and origin where they just instantly vanish and EA does next to nothing with their new properties. Why do they even buy them then?

computer games now? heaven forbid 'evercade' would ever bother to bring even one arcade title to their system, amirite? At that point it would start to look like they're intentionally doing it ;)

As far as Codemasters goes, I know EA wants them for racing games. Me personally, I not a fan of EA buying companies at all. I do have the same fear as you do. The last EA game I got was on the PSP. EA is a company that I'm turned off by for years.

I do think there is a slight chance of EA games being on Evercade since Road Rash was on the Genesis Mini. Blaze did mention they are in talks for the Strike series.

Blaze did answer about arcade games for the Evercade last week. They said arcade games are likely to come for Evercade in Quarter 3 of 2021. Evercade has a problem with amount of companies that they could release arcade games for the system. I know Piko has rights to arcade games. I know outside that Blaze has can Atari arcade games before July of 1984, Jaleco, Data East, Namco and Technos.  Blaze did have talks with Squaresoft about Taito, but didn't say how the talks went.

I think the amount of PS1 games on Evercade at this point is about as much as concern as Arcade games for Evercade. There are 2 PS1 Games announced for Evercade Blaze right now can put PS1 games from Jaleco, Interplay, Namco, and Data East beside Team 17.

  19. Evercade did announce Codemaster Collection 1 on Wednesday. https://www.evercade.co.uk/codemasters-collection-1-cartridge/

The Pinball game is the game I am most interested in the Codemasters Collection. The Codemaster Collection is basically NES and Genesis games. The unreleased Tennis all-stars is the game Pete Sampras Tennis started its life as. Pete Sampras Tennis according to Blaze Entertainment was modified and changed from Tennis All-stars.

I think Blaze wanted to announce this collection right now due to 2 facts.  The first one is EA is going to buy Codemasters next month unless something changes. The 2nd thing is Codemasters game console games were already released for Evercade in Oliver Twins Collections and I think Blaze wanted to finish get as many game console games of Codemasters released for Evercade as possible before they start doing computer emulation.

I mention computer emulation because I know Blaze would like to get  Atari St, C64, and ZX Spectrum games on the Evercade. Blaze Entertainment is a UK company and It seems like they have an easy time to get British companies on board with the Evercade system.

I always have wanted to check out Remnant, just never been sure enough to buy it--so I'm down for collection #1 one of these days. edit: I guess 'one of these days' means more like '10 minutes after posting,' since that just happened.

but really, almost all of my absolute favorite lynx games are arcade ports from the 'other' atari, and I never seem to see their stuff around any more, so it's probably difficult to license.

I think the 'other' Atari is still owned by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment just like Midway arcade games. The problem is Warner seems not to care about those IPS except for Mortal Kombat.

I don't know if Blaze had talks Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for any collection for Evercade.

In this episode I celebrate the hard work of the many talented programmers who make games for this system.  This will be the first of many as there are a lot of great homebrews out there. Which was your favorite homebrew?  Which games would you like to see made?

My favorite 7800 homebrew of all time is a tough one based on what is completed.

At this time, I have to say Moon Cresta. Out of the games from the video you mentioned, I would say it is a toss up between Frenzy and Crazy Brix.
