  1. Atari was slow, but it was complicated on why. The owner of Atari Inc. sold Tramiel the Assets of Atari Inc's Home Consumer division on July 2nd, 1984. The problem was Warner Communications did not pay GCC for development of the 7800. There was a heated argument for who was supposed to pay GCC with taking Tramiel May of 1985 to pay GCC. Tramiel than had to do additional negotiations for the initial launch titles that GCC did. Tramiel did not have a video game division either at the time. All Tramiel was doing was selling leftover inventory of the 2600 from a video game retail side of things before the deals with GCC with the Atari 7800 were. When Tramiel bought the Atari Inc. Consumer division assets from Warner, Tramiel had his own company. Tramiel renamed his own company Atari Corporation. Tramiel did not have the deepest pockets and could keep a lot of Atari Inc. employees that were under contract for Warner. Those pockets did affect the cartridge size for the 7800. The Nes had a worldwide launch in September of 1986 and the 7800 Nationwide launch happened May of 1986. That means the 7800 Nationwide was released. The Nes did a bunch of test markets in 1985 and 1986 before doing the Nationwide. The test market were at the largest cities in the United States in 1985 and 1986. The Nes was test Marketed in New York City in 1985. Los Angeles was the 2nd NES test market with it being February of 1986. Chicago and San Francisco were the 3rd and 4th test markets. The NES than was test marketed in another 12 top United States Markets before doing the Nationwide launch in September of 1986. Doing to the time frame, It is given the 7800 was released in a lot places before the NES. The 7800's problem was the games themselves in 1986. You are dealing with games that were supposed to be released for the 1984 launch, not a 1986 Nationwide release. Even without Nintendo's 3rd party policy, Atari 7800 was not going to get a lot of 3 party games. The 7800 was not released in Japan and that is going to affect if any Japanese developers want to develop and publish games outside of Japan only. The Master System would've been a big benefactor without Nintendo's 3rd party policy. I think Atari could've got Borderbund Software and Tengen for the 7800 as 3rd parties.
  2. 5.) Ys Book 1 & 2 - Turbografx 16 Mini I've beaten this version of Ys 1 & 2 before on the Wii Virtual game console. There is no difference. I've always been a fan of the sound track of the tg-16 version and always enjoy the old bump system Ys used to have.
  3. Lynx Collection 1 & 2 now are given a date of November 6th for being released. The collections will be ready to Preorder on July 30th. The information is found here: https://www.evercade.co.uk/atari-lynx-1-and-2-evercade-cartridges-pre-order-date-confirmed/
  4. The cartridge fit gets better the more times you put the cartridge in and out of the system. If you have problems with Magical Drop ii, contact the makers of Evercade. They are working on firmware updates. Evercade has 2 firmware updates already including fixing the button mapping. The 2nd firmware update fixed a couple games that crashed, but Magical Drop ii was not one of them.
  5. He has been spewing misinformation on the 7800 more than once and had been called on including the false claim of Brentley Bear only using one button. He's not worth anyone's time on this forum. I know he was involved 8 bit and Atari 5200 homebrew projects before. Harvey also had issues with Rikki and Vikki before his comment. I am referring to this:
  6. I don't know if it a save state issue, but I leaning towards that. The firmware for saving states is not available yet outside of a small group of people that are testing that firmware out. The only firemware update my younger brother has is the button mapping. I think my younger brother wants to want for a complain till the save state firmware is available for the general public. I do not have a Facebook account. My younger brother would be the one doing a pm since he is one who actually played it, not me. I only witnessed him playing the games. I only read facebook posts and twitter comments concerning evercade despite not having an account. What I can tell you is I also saw him play the Technos Collection and Megacat Studios Collection. He did not have any save state problems on the Technos Collection and Megacat studios collection.
  7. A mapper is various circuits, hardware, and the configuration and capabilities inside a game cartridge. Mappers are designed to extend the system and bypass its limitations, such as by adding RAM to the cartridge or even extra sound channels. Here is an example of a mapper:
  8. I do not have a 5200, but an Atari 800 XL that I am co owner of since late 2018. I do not have 5200 for a few reasons. The 5200 has a well known controller issue. The 5200 got a lot of Atari 8 bit computer conversions after its commercial life ended. A lot of the 5200 games also were on the Atari 8 bit computers also. The 5200 does not get a big homebrew scene at all. I have the Atari 7800 that my younger brother and I got for Christmas in 1989 as a Christmas gift. I was born in the later period of generation X. I already had an Intellivision 2 with a 2600 super charger and an Atari 2600 Jr. Having a 7800 made sense since I already had 2600 games. I did get a NES in 1991. The 7800 is a very good game console if you are into arcade ports. It also had Midnight Mutants, and Ninja Golf as original games. The homebrew scene has some impressive stuff and I feel it is at its peak right now. There are a lot of 7800 games being worked on currently. Some of the 7800 homebrew games currently being worked on are not on the 5200 or any other game console. My Atari 7800 also works with 2600 homebrew games. As far as yourself goes, I can not give you a straight answer. What I can tell you is look at videos on homebrew Atari 7800 games, try playing Atari 7800 games by Emulation and look if any upcoming Atari 7800 games you would be interested in. Here is a link for the upcoming 7800 games:
  9. There are some things you need to understand with the 7800 compare to the 5200 from a homebrew side. Baby Pac-Man costs $50.00 right now because it is a boxed version. Albert later on sells the same game not in a box with being $15.00 to $20.00 cheaper. Bentley Bear's Crystal Castle, and Super Circus Atariage costs $75.00 right now for 2 reasons. They are currently boxed only. The 2nd reason is those 2 games have a Pokeyone sound chip built inside a game cartridge. Froggie, Beef Drop VE, and Pac-Man Collection cost $65.00 each because of the Pokeyone sound chip. That sound chip is not cheap to get, but it is a better option than taking Pokey sound chips out of 7800 Ballblazer cartridges. The Pokeyone sound chip is a replacement for Atari's Pokey sound chip. The Atari 7800 cartridges were designed for adding sound chips and ram. GCC saw adding better sound chips inside a game cartridge as the answer for the 7800 having a very outdated sound chip inside the system itself. If you complain about the Rikki and Vikki game price being almost $60.00, I have an explanation for that. Rikki and & Vikki's price is box related and it is very advanced 7800 game due to the amount of hardware built inside the game cartridge. The game has a mapper and a music coprcessor inside the game cartridge. You are dealing with a game that has 512k of game code and graphics. You are dealing with a game that is way more advanced than the Atari 5200 is capable of including sound. Rikki and Vikki is basically a 7800 game done the NES/famicom way. The Nes had a lot games with mappers and this 7800 game has. Some Japanese famicom games even have a sound chip built side a game cartridge also.
  10. That collection can be buggy and I think it is bad copy. The problem don't show up every time you put in the Piko Game cartridge. My younger brother put in the cartridge 3 times. My younger brother did not witness a crash on the first time while playing 2 games. The 2nd time, he was kicked out of the game after trying to use the save state. The games did not save. The 3rd time he put in the cartridge, the games saved using the save state. He was not kicked out of the game after using the save state. I know Blaze is working a firmware update for save state. More than one person had problems with the save states with the Piko cartridge.
  11. I know Final Fantasy is actually Final Fantasy 4, but that is how it was labeled for the North America SNES release at the time. I known the game as Final Fantasy 4 for Playstation due to it being on one of the Final Fantasy Games on Final Fantasy Anthology. I beaten all the Final Fantasy games on Final Fantasy Origins, Final Fantasy Anthology, and Final Fantasy Chronicles back in the 2000s.
  12. 4.) Final Fantasy 2 - SNES I only beaten the Playstation version before.
  13. I did see my younger brother play the Evercade. What I can concern is the handheld has no problems with sound without USB while doing a couple games on the 8 cartridges he has. The Namco Collections still didn't come yet despite pre ordering them from Funstock. The controls are fine also according to him. He tried all the Mega Cat studios collection with no problems on USB. What he did was wait till the Evercade was turned with the cartridge inside before putting in the USB.
  14. It is true that Groovy Bee has not posted for a while anywhere on Atariage forums, but he has been mentioned. Groovy Bee has working on the 7800 XM according to Curt.
  15. Pac-Man on the Namco cart I believe is the Nes version. What I know about Namco collection 1 is there is no arcade ports at all. Blaze Entertainment mentioned they will be doing arcade collections next year including Namco.
  16. It would be cool. I think a 3rd collection is possible. Blaze already has Namco and Technos. The Lynx has Double Dragon, Block out, Pac-Land, and Ms Pac-Man. Songbird Productions has the rights to Battlezone 2000 and they are working on a couple games for the Lynx they are hope to be released this fall in Sky Raider and Quadromania Redux. I actually have no idea if Stun Runner is possible. It comes down to not knowing for sure who owns the arcade rights Atari Corp game titles including Stun Runner. I'm guessing Warner Interactive Entertainment since they do have rights to Midway IPS. Midway owned the old Atari arcade division before they closed it. The problem with Warner is the rumors of A & T wanting to sell the Warner Interactive Entertainment Video game division and its video game IPS separately. I know Tramiel had to get a licenses for porting Atari Games corp. Arcade titles to the Lynx including Stun Runner. That means the current Atari does not have Stun Runner rights. Lynx Tecmo ports is something I have no idea on. Blaze Entertainment had no given a direct answer on if they got Tecmo on board for doing an Evercade collection.
  17. The entire Lynx Library is not going to happen. It is caused by Batman Returns and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Blaze Entertainment multiple times answered questions about games based on movie IPS, Comic Book IPS, and cartoon IPS. They stated they are not interest putting those type of games on Evercade due to the amount of licensed companies they have to go through for one game.
  18. Blaze announced today that Evercade will be releasing The Oliver Twins Collection during the 3rd quarter of this year. All the profits will be going to the National Videogame Museum charity. It has the following games: Treasure Island Dizzy BMX Simulator Fantastic Dizzy Super Robin Hood Go! Dizzy Go! Dizzy The Adventurer Panic Dizzy DreamWorld Pogie FireHawk Wonderland Dizzy Mystery World Dizzy
  19. The makers of Evercade mentioned it during at least 2 different question and answer secessions on their facebook page. I am referring to last month and this month. They did not give out any details on the console though outside of being able to play two player games. They are not guaranteeing that console is going to happen though. I know the arcade compilations are going to start next year. All I know is they are going to do a Namco arcade compilation and a Data East arcade compilation at least next year.
  20. 1.) Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana - Nintendo Switch This was an outstanding game. I've played a lot of YS games and I think this might have been the best or close to it. 2.) Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap - Nintendo Switch A great remake to one of my favorite SMS and TG-16 games I ever played. 3.) Dragon Quest 1+2+3 collection - Physical copy for Nintendo Switch
  21. Sega did a cash grab in my eyes. This is a product that I would stay away from even if it somehow makes it to the states. I know the mini's a big trend right now, but what Sega is doing is a concept done wrong in this cause for people like myself.
  22. I've beaten more than 3 games this year, but they were for the Switch. 2.) YS VI: The Ark of Napishtim - Playstation 2 I am fan of the YS series and I've beaten a lot of YS's games through years. I am not a fan of the jump dash at all. It is a good YS game despite the dash jump. The music is good. 3.) YS V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand - SNES I beaten the reproduction of the game with a translation since I can not read Japanese. I consider it one of the weaker games of the YS series that I've played. While it has a magic system, it is not a must to use at all. The music not that great overall. The game itself is easier than Mask of the Sun on the SNES.
  23. The price issue for you is timing. My younger brother started buying games for the Saturn in 1999 or 2000. My younger brother got most his domestic Saturn games from that era including ebay at much cheaper prices. What happened is a few things. The Saturn is more known know than it was during its time on the market. Youtube and the internet did play a part. At the same time, I think people discovered the Saturn's import games. The Saturn had a whole lot more games out in Japan than they did in the states and a lot of the games are Japan only games. The only thing with domestic Saturn games is most of the 1998 US releases always been high priced due to limited runs.
  24. Funstockretro did an interview with the product director at Blaze, the makers of Evercade. Here is the link: https://www.funstockretro.co.uk/news/evercade-50-cartridges-in-next-3-years-interview/
  25. It now says June 5th for Amazon.
