I preordered from Amazon too.  You're also able to preorder from retrogames.biz   Will these preorders be invalid now?

Ssorry if I created confusion. I thought retrogames was only taking EU orders .. all those preorders remain valid ... They got Amazon up sooner than we expected ... good news ... the more places to purchase the better

Well, it is about time that the Atari 8bit get some representation! I am just curious on how they were able to secure a license to make these since Atari is on a new strategic path.

Indeed! 8-bit has been on our wish list (games, hardware ... ) we 've been plotting this with Plaion and Retro games for a while, excited to see it is near the finish line.

Maybe @Ben from Plaion can help?

And if he needs a UK beta tester I'm available 😁

Hey, Ben is still in the deep end on the Atari 2600+ 🤣 ... we will def get you some answers from Atari/Plaion/Retro Games as questions pile up. I think there is an interesting blend here of more straightforward mini-console with some extension to allow for more advance uses (USB, SD slot, etc). I;m not the expert, but I'll get an expert into this thread ...

  4. I will say, we made some of the the larger GFuel product available to the Atari Club members in an exclusive pre-sale window and it sold out. There is a cohort that likes energy drinks, and there is a cohort that likes to collect. Clearly there is some overlap between our fan bases. And, if that skews younger, why not? We want Atari to still be going strong in another 50 years ... so we stay true to our core, but we fold in younger fans over time.

  5. I can confirm what many of you are already seeing, that the next container of Atari 2600+ units has arrived at our warehouse and units will start shipping today. We expect for all outstanding orders made at Atari.com to be shipped by Friday.

Starting next week, all new orders should go out within 24 to 48 hours. Ideally we won't run out of stock again.

I teach 2600 programming to my middle school and high school programming students for the same reason. Plues it really helps them understand the relationship between binary numbers, switches, and hardware design. They do much better with microcontroller programming afterwards.

Very cool. Fun fact. The developer who created Mr Run and Jump teaches programming, and he started that game as an assignment to teach the students much the way it sounds you are.

  7. The Atari Club is not about NFTs and Tokens ... their goal is to create a modern version of the original Club, but with more engagement and ideation. Yes there are elements of exclusivity that you would except from a loyalty program, including early access to games and products, discounting, etc ... but also a heavy emphasis on getting input from the community about what projects Atari should be doing. That input/dialog piece is going to be a focus next year.

So I'd stay tuned to this space, and check out the Club next year after it has fully launched.

Everyone wants to throw darts at anything web3 related. Fine. Misses the point/living in the past. Yes, the previous administration did some pretty tacky NFT and virtual casino licensing deals. We shut those down immediately. But there were also some really cool projects that came out of that era, like the Sunnyvale experience in the Sandbox. That was amazing. For us web3 is an underlying technology that makes certain things much easier to do ... yes the team does do programs with partners that still utilize NFTs, primarily as keys to unlock benefits, but the days of NFTs as a product are over.

And, back to the main point here, the Club jacket is amazing. The Club team did their homework. Fund originals online. Worked with Members Only to create a better, updated version of the jacket. Not every project they do will be apparel, but they will all have that same attention to detail, rooted in Atari's legacy.

  8. Our partners at Plaion created those fancy preview unit kits and sent them out to influencers to raise interest in the launch. It worked, but it is not lost on me that it is frustrating to see units out in the wild being unboxed when you are still waiting on delivery. I don't actually have one either, they really are in short supply until the first week of December, and then we should be good for a while.

I do hope you are correct and some more people get a shipping notice soon.

Thank you for the reply and explanation.

All we can do is give you honest answers, and in this case share your frustration. I'm guessing there was some component in multi-product orders that was not ready to go or something like that, and it caused them to change the order in which things went out.

Busiest warehouse time of the year, I suspect the priority became "ship what is ready asap" .. apologies

The big question is if the orders are shipping in waves then why are so many people who ordered on Aug 22 from Atari.com not in the first wave?

It was our intent that all the early orders would be fulfilled first ... we now know some decisions were made at the fulfillment warehouse that impacted shipping order, and it seems some customers who ordered as early as 8-22 were not at the front of the line as expected. There is a chance you may get a notice that your package shipped in the next 24 hours or so, but if not, it is going to be in two weeks.

  11. Our expectation was that items would be shipped based on order date  ... it looks like there may have been some decisions made on the ground based on a desire to ship as many units as possible, as fast as possible, that may have changed that logical shipping order. Still digging into it. Worst case scenario (barring natural disaster) is they go out first week of December.

  12. We announced on Friday that we are making a 7800 two-button controller, an extension cable, and a paddle pack that ships without the 4-in-1 game cart for those who don't want it (or want a second set of paddles).

Haven't confirmed dates yet but I know they are pushing for as soon as possible.

  13. Lots of questions about shipping here. I don't want to give you any information that is not correct, so let me spend some time this morning digging into the issues and get back to you.

Our fulfillment partner is shipping orders in waves as product arrives at their distribution center. Unfortunately, in this case, we have more orders than units on the ground. But there are more on the way. If you have pre ordered the Atari 2600+ and have not already received a tracking number, your order will ship in the first week of December (abut two weeks).

I know a) that is not at all satisfying if you won't get your order until December, and b) that does not address issues around partial orders shipping. Let me do some digging.

The Atari 2600+ seems to keep on getting pushed back with its release date.  It was first suppose to be released in September,  then in November and now it's not out until near the end of December.  It's a bit unsettling thinking that this may be hoax the one with the Coleco Chameleon scam.

The release date for the Atari 2600+ remains November 17, 2023. It has not changed since we announced the product just before Gamescom on August 22. the date was in the press release and repeated in tons of articles online.

Nice interview! I noticed that around the 06:10 mark, David from Atari mentions that the paddle pack box comes with a 4-in-1 cartridge containing the games: Warlords, Canyon Bomber, Night Driver and Breakout.

However, pictures of the paddle pack box currently shows Video Olympics instead of Warlords?

I was wrong! Messed than one up. It is Video Olympics, not Warlords. I think Warlords is coming however ... I hope so.
