That's why I thought Pete Rose Baseball sucked. Home runs were way too easy to hit.

Too bad I didn't know about the Java t hing before I painstakingly made all my menus following Chad's instructions. I still need to figure out why one of my menus crashes the CC2 if I try going past a certain menu item. I found all the 7800 bins and 2600 bins sans homebrews just by searching this website. Sure it was a pain but I was able to find them. Part of the problem is a lot of stuff is buried in the huge CC2 thread. I think Chad is so foreboding in his language before you buy it because he doesn't want to deal with people who are disappointed in his product because they spent a lot of money and still can't get it to work. I can't say that I blame him mainly because Chad is only one man and can only support this stuff so much. If someone wants to help by sending me ideas of questions to put on a CC2 FAQ I'd be happy to put one up on my personal webspace. The one thing I will not link to on an FAQ page are ROMS (unless I could get author permission maybe for some homebrews). If people are willing to send me their menu system to put up for download I can do that too. PM me if you're interested in helping me with this.

the genesis controller works on the 7800 whoohoo!
HammR25 replied to darklord1977's topic in Atari 7800
If you want to know what 7800 games will work with the Genesis controllers I'd suggest viewing the thread that lists all the 7800 games that only need one button because that's basically what the 7800 sees the genesis controllers as........a one button controller. -
Are Q-Bert and Frogger freeware or payware? If they're freeware is there a rom out there for them?
-
Is there a way to hook up 7800 controllers on the PC and have them operate like 7800 controllers? I figured you'd probably have to have a proper driver to get the buttons mapped correctly but was curious to see if anyone had tackled this. After getting the Space Invader controllers back from Jay the thought has been popping into my mind. It would be nice to be able to hook one of these up to the computer.

I'm just amazed at how much of the game is actually in the demo. I assumed I'd be time limited or stop after one level or something but I got to the third level......finally. This is an awesome game and excellent work.

I've tried Space Invaders again the past couple of nights and it's doing the same thing so sometimes it works good enough and sometimes it's total crap.

I've never found the Proline sticks uncomfortable, just very poorly made. Back in the 80s when I got my first 7800 I sent in probably 3 or 4 proline joysticks before their 90 warranty was up and eventually bought a couple of 3rd party Epyx controllers that had one button and just used the prolines when absolutely required for a 7800 game. This is why I went ahead and got a couple of the space invader games and had Jay mod them for me. The Space Shuttle cart doesn't work with the 7800? I wonder why it works when used with the Cuttle Cart 2?

Stinkoman is fun but I'm much rather have Trogdor the Burninator.

One easy but rather expensive way to get every 2600 and 7800 game is to buy a Cuttle Cart 2. I'd say they're about $180 once you get all the accessories you'll need as well.

Thanks Steve

Yeah I thought about it long and hard before deciding to have Jay put action buttons on both sides since my brother is left handed. In the end I figured that was more important than having the directionals for a couple of games. I REALLY wanted to do both though.

Last night I fired up Space invaders for the second time and the colors seemed ok. The second time I ran One on One the scoreboard looked better (still not the best but readable) too so this is all just really weird. It's like they have to be played once before they'll look ok. Also I hooked up my 7800 to my 20.1 in Dell widescreen lcd monitor and the space invaders colors looked awesome. The picture still looked really blocky because the monitor wasn't designed for such low resolutions but that's just a monitor limitation.

I tried to find a sticky or FAQ but gave up.

ahhh, now I see. I couldn't figure out what the "cups" were. It looked like some sort of Atari gadget. It's been bugging me for works but didn't want to do a forum post just to find out. Finally curiosity got the best of me.

I had the same mod done in December by OSG and have similar issues to Atariboy. I didn't say anything because I figured that was just part of it since it's essentially a third party hack on a very old game system. In One on One the characters on the scoreboard are very difficult to read. In space invaders the aliens are very faded and their shots are almost impossible to see. In Pole Position II the letters at the top of the screen are somewhat difficult to read. Its basically like the dark colors are oversaturating the other color's areas or something. I have brand new composite cables plugged into my VCR/DVD combo that goes to my tv by composite cable. TV is a 4.5 year old Panasonic 27" non HD.

My brother had that game for his 5200 and I loved it. The one memory that sticks out is one time I started to leave the side then thought...."Oh crap that thing is too close and tried to move back to the sideline really quickly. Well I happened to go around it and trap it into a super duper tiny spot and got my only 99% ever.

I've got some menus but I took out all the PAL stuff. http://www.hammr.us/menus.zip

When I first was looking into this the stuff at http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/7800_gen_adap.html looked daunting. Now that I think I've figured out what he did it doesnt' look nearly as bad. I'd just need to learn some soldering skills and find some of those parts. Option 1 looks the best.
-
I looked at the NES stuff. It looked like more trouble than it was worth since I'd have to find some Atari controllers as well. Anyway with the Genesis controller it looks like I need to change out pinout 5 to 7 then 9 to 5 and 6 needs to somehow also go to 9?
-
Maybe this pic will show what I'm talking about a little better. This is inside the actual controller. These go straight down the cord to the connector.
-
In the back of the Sega controller it looks like it should be easy to move the pins. I think that setup is designed to have things moved around........but yeah changing the pin-outs in the connector would be impossible. I had to destroy the connector just to see what the colors are. Maybe you can tell what I'm talking about in that terrible webcam pic I put in the first post. I'd take a real pic but I left my digital camera at my brother's house at Christmas and haven't gotten it back yet.

My one not butchered controller is a 6 button Sega controller. I'm not sure about the other 6. They look like they were made by Sega though. They're also 6 button. I bought them on eBay today. I'll rip one of those apart to see what the colors and pinouts are there to be safewhen I get them. According to that diagram it's as follows: 1 Green 2 Yellow 3 Orange 4 Red 5 Brown 6 White 7 Black 8 Gray 9 Blue Personally I think that diagram has the numbering backwards because Deathskull Laboratories has them opposite of that and both the Atari and Sega pinouts have pinout 8 as black ground in that configuration and my controller matches that. Going by Deathskull: 1. Brown 2. Red 3. Orange 4. Yellow 5. Green 6. Blue 7. Gray 8. Black 9. White I was going to play with the pinouts on the controller but didn't feel like trying to move them and end up breaking something because I didn't know how to properly release them. Thanks for your help.

Ok I was looking into modding my genesis controllers so that they'd work with my 7800. Of course as I searched I found it already works fine as a 2600 controller. I was just trying to figure out how to mod the controller to use the second button when necessary. I read through all the stuff I could find on the net and honestly the electrical stuff makes no sense to me. Since Genesis controllers are so cheap right now I just went ahead and bought 6 of them brand new on eBay for $17 shipped. I figured I'd get extras in case I screwed up a few of them. I went ahead and opened one of my genesis controllers and found the following stuff on the back of it. Shouldn't I just be able to change around some of those pinouts to get the controller to work as a 7800 controller and if so does anybody know which one before I start going trial and error. Otherwise I suppose I'll need to cut open the other end of the controller to see which wire ends up where. I was just hoping to avoid doing the same thing for a 7800 controller although maybe I can learn how to read the pinout stuff that's already on the net.
