  1. I'd go with what Perry said the last time this XM stuff came up in December.

    My idea was for the BIOS to check for the XBOARD and then disable any conflicting features to avoid possibility of hardware damage. Maybe even pop up a message to let the person know, just in case they have and XBOARD machine and don't realize it. I know there aren't many out there, but at least 50 were sold, so there's bound to be a few of them.

  2. It sounds like they've found some new investors to throw money at this and that the new investors told them they'd only get money if they did what they originally promised in the Kickstarter.

    He was unequivocal when I asked if another two years of development would put Nightdive in a financial bind.

    "No it doesn't. We've also had renewed interest from some publishing partners, for whom the more complex and costly game was something of a challenge for them, that this is what they were hoping we would provide and renewed their interest."

  3. I'd say you're both basically correct. It's not really a "donation" but good luck getting your money back since they've already spent it all. Here's what the Kickstarter TOS has to say about that:

    When a project is successfully funded, the creator must complete the project and fulfill each reward. Once a creator has done so, they’ve satisfied their obligation to their backers.

    Throughout the process, creators owe their backers a high standard of effort, honest communication, and a dedication to bringing the project to life. At the same time, backers must understand that when they back a project, they’re helping to create something new — not ordering something that already exists. There may be changes or delays, and there’s a chance something could happen that prevents the creator from being able to finish the project as promised.

    If a creator is unable to complete their project and fulfill rewards, they’ve failed to live up to the basic obligations of this agreement. To right this, they must make every reasonable effort to find another way of bringing the project to the best possible conclusion for backers. A creator in this position has only remedied the situation and met their obligations to backers if:

    • they post an update that explains what work has been done, how funds were used, and what prevents them from finishing the project as planned;
    • they work diligently and in good faith to bring the project to the best possible conclusion in a timeframe that’s communicated to backers;
    • they’re able to demonstrate that they’ve used funds appropriately and made every reasonable effort to complete the project as promised;
    • they’ve been honest, and have made no material misrepresentations in their communication to backers; and
    • they offer to return any remaining funds to backers who have not received their reward (in proportion to the amounts pledged), or else explain how those funds will be used to complete the project in some alternate form.
    The creator is solely responsible for fulfilling the promises made in their project. If they’re unable to satisfy the terms of this agreement, they may be subject to legal action by backers.

    Personally I'm glad I had no nostalgia for this game or I'd probably be in the same boat.

  4. When I looked at what your XM project was all about, the most amazing thing that jumped out at me was indeed the plastics that you mentioned. That most certainly must have cost a small fortune, and I can see where based on the relatively small number of pre-orders, that money would have been easily eaten up just with that alone. Then of course there is the multiple board runs required while developing the electronics design, and the components required to assemble those first run boards. I can quickly see that not only will not make any profit from the pre-orders, but it is also unlikely that you'll get paid for the time you put into this project. And I wouldn't be surprised when all is said and done, you'll actually be negative when it concerns financing on the pre-order aspect. So hopefully you'll be able to turn that around when this hits the AA store later this year ;) .

    Bottom line, you are totally awesome for not only taking this on, but also for seeing it through. Congratulations to you on a job well done :) .

    This is EXACTLY why I never complained.

  5. I think somebody screwed up the US price on Steam because right now Season 5 is only $7.50 for the standard and $9.99 for the pro pack. Both say they're 50% off but they're 50% off the 50% off sale price.

    I was able to refund the Season 5 standard version and then re-bought the "Pro" version. $1 a table sounds about right for the Season 5 tables. Glad I happened to look in the Steam forum for this game and notice someone had lamented on paying $20 for the pro version instead of $10.

  6. 2 1/2 year bump. :)

    Does anyone have any ideas about CC2 bankswitching configurations for the following games?

    DK VCS (aka Donkey Kong VCS)

    Gauntlet (Dark Chambers HACK)

    Millipede CX-22 Trackball HACK

    Thanks for any help.

    The way I find them is to sort the game roms by file size in explorer and borrow the bankswitch configuration from one of the games which is the same size. If it doesn't work I pick another one and try again.

    If a game is a hack of another game it most likely uses the same bankswitch file.

  7. Seriously, its a joke this is even brought up. The complaint of feature creep was argued years ago as the biggest obstacle to the completion of the XM. Yet, every single time this project has a small step forward, all of a sudden another obscure feature or compatibility should be looked into to satisfy like one or two guys.

    I understand where they're coming from not wanting to destroy someone's 7800 with an X-Board inside but this thing has taken as long as it took Charles DeMarr to finish high school at this point.

  8. My Scorpio sticker edition came yesterday but I didn't ever get an Xbone so the only thing I have to compare it to is my 360. It's definitely more refined than that. Now instead of having an advertisement in one place they're pretty much all over the screen.

    It starts and shuts off a lot easier than the 360 did when using my Harmony 550 and it boots a lot faster.

    My favorite thing is how it doesn't have a disc tray, just a slot where they go in and a physical button to get them out.

    Otherwise it's a console that plays games like a console. I'll probably use it to watch movies more than play games, at least until Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out.

  9. It's $189 but that price doesn't include a controller. I guess they figured not everyone wants to buy a controller.

    My bank also rejected my order but immediately sent me a text asking me if I had ordered it. When I responded with "YES" I was able to resubmit the charge.

    Now I understand why my bank rejected the initial transaction since I was hit with a $6.63 foreign transaction fee. Apparently Analogue uses an international payment gateway. Add that to their already high shipping costs.
