Several companies make high end racing wheels and seem to survive, however they all use parts that have other uses in the real world so the barrier to entry is much lower. I'd guess an $800 steering wheel has a much higher contribution margin than the Rift or Vive. Everyone raves about VR for racing games so hopefully it survives for that and flight sims.

I'd like to have one for PC racing games but can't bring myself to actually buy one, mainly due to my concern for comfort issues, especially at the current price point. I'd rather have someone else be the early adopter who helps them work out the bugs.

Farsight would only do that table if they could get customers to crowdfund the licensing fees. However, according to Farsight, Disney won't even talk to them about licensing any of its properties so that's a moot point. There are already, I think, 4 Stern tables from TPA in the Stern app. At least on Steam if you've already purchased those tables in TPA they're automatically available to play in the Stern app instead of them forcing you to rebuy them.

I can already steal all the old games and run them in MAME so I'm not interested in paying rights holders to bring those same games to current consoles. I would however like to see more updated versions of the games along the lines of 1942: Joint Strike, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, Pac-Man Championship Edition and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition.

Yeah, running power through the switch box never made sense. Then again after the NES came with a non-switch box that automatically changed the channel when the console was powered on made all the others seem like crap. I was a bit miffed when the NES had that and the 7800 still had the old manual switch box.

Stern Pinball Arcade came out in the last day or two on Steam. The game automatically ported my settings from the Pinball Arcade. I've got a 2560 x 1440 monitor and I run it in portrait mode for TPA. When I fired up SPA I just got this menu. The black side bars are because I recorded it with Shadow Play and then had to rotate it so it wouldn't be sideways on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rig15vD9lM I tried playing the game in landscape mode and the menus are really clunky. Some options could be set using my 360 pad while others required using the mouse. For example I could change the table lighting with my 360 pad but the room light required me to use the mouse even though they're in the same menu. This thing is a disaster in it's current state on Steam.

If you're worried about online check ins you're better off getting games from GOG.com. All of their games are DRM free. Steam has an 'offline mode' but its' far from ideal. Steam is good for retro gamers because there are a ton of new games that are created in the spirit of the retro games and those particular games don't have huge hardware requirements. The other thing that's great that you wont' get on consoles are Steam sales. There's one going on today. Check out the site store and see how crazy some of the discounts are.

Looks like Stern Pinball Arcade comes out this week on digital and in a couple of weeks on disc for the PS4 and Xbone. They definitely still show stuff from people who make them a lot of money regardless of what your tags are. Call of Duty Infinite Rehash showed up in mine even though I have FPS as one of my blocked tags.

I only have 6 things on my wishlist so that feature comes in handy. The new feature to not see things you don't want to see only kind of works. I'm still seeing Early Access titles even though they have a specific checkbox for it.

Valve has made it easier to filter out things you don't want to see in the Steam store. It will be nice not to see Early Access titles anywhere. Hopefully adding the "Free to Play" tag will work as well. There also seems to be more targeted marketing going on since it's showing a lot more games similar to other titles in my library than it used to.

My next console after the 7800 was the TurboGrafx 16. Don't remember how long after that I ended up getting a Genesis because I didn't like the TG16.

Dream Arcades used to make Xbox 360 fight sticks like this but those haven't been sold for years. Apparently I've had one since 2010

The big game makers like EA and Ubisoft will make sure this thing never gets off the ground because they'll all be looking for new jobs if everyone has an OTON X!!!
