  1. Sorry the comic bothers you, but my thoughts on your thoughts, Adrian: Personally, I think the comic was amusing. And I don't find the robot's preference an important issue. What's important is that It's an ass grabber. Imagine that, a robot that grabs asses. And Atari-Jess don't want his ass grabbed. Certainly not by any robot, and definately not by any robot that is his arch enemy. I find that funny. You say that the the robot wanting to grab ass is presented as something bad. You're right about that. But isn't that true? Ain't it something bad, when you don't want your ass grabbed, but someone still tries to do it? Although not as funny, (for obvious reasons) he could have been the pie offering robot, for all I care. If he keeps offering me pies, and I don't want them, that is a bad thing! And I'll send him back to his 'robot pie offering kingdom.' Sure, his 'robot homo kingdom' response was not entirely necessary. But I don't think that was an important part of the joke, making the comic some thinly veiled gay joke. The comic would have been just as effective, if he said I'll send you back to the 'robot ass-grabboid weekly subscriber's kingdom.' >Come on, what if it were a black robot, or a Jewish robot. >Would shooting the robot at the end seem so funny? It would still be funny! Because this issue is not emphasized, so is not the important point of the joke! You say it perpetuates that homos should be shot? Would you still read it the same way, as in my example above, that all ass grabboids should be shot? I wouldn't. Naw, just the grabboids that are trying to grab my ass when I specifically tell them not to. Who really cares what Race/gender/orientation the robot is? Who knows? Most likely, the robot isn't black; but who has the right to claim that it ain't jewish? Heck, he could be, couldn't he? Anyhow, those issues are not what makes it funny to me. Conceivably, the robot could have been programmed to be throughtly straight, with the malfunctions that make him grab that ass instead of kill. Still a funny comic. Still funny. Gay issues don't seem at the core of what makes it funny. Would you still feel as strongly, if he never used the word 'homo?' Perhaps you mostly just take offense to to this slang term then? I guess I can understand that. But then again, I'm sure your casual use of the term "black people" might equally offend many people as well. So perhaps it just comes down to slang terminology. Some words offend certain people, and not others.
  2. My pleasure; Glad you got the lynx battery cover alright, Z_a_n_z_a. Any idea what's wrong with the system? Still thinking that it's the Voltage regulator (Q12)?

  4. Brig- Glad to hear that you're interested in pursuing lynx programming. You don't necessarily need a hardware development kit, although Carl might attest to the usefullness of having one. A very useful software development kit can be downloaded. Along with a few other programs, some knowlege of C or assembly programming, and you'll be off to a good start. No Amiga is necessary, I do all my work on a PC. Using the tools below, it is perfectly reasonable to create a game that is professional & releasable: 42Bastian's Lynx-Page. A great source to download the BLL software development kit, C compiler for lynx, and the almighty Lynx Technical Documentation. http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Byte/4242/lynx/ Matthias Domin's Atari Lynx page. A handful of lynx demos, complete with source code, showing simple examples of using sprites, color palettes, and collision detections. Also available here, and very useful: SPRPCK, a program that will reformat images into the appropriate lynx sprite format. Also, Lyxass: The DOS-version of the BLL-Assembler. http://home.t-online.de/home/matthias.domi...in/lynx_eng.htm Handy, a Lynx emulator for Windows. This emulator will allow you to play/test your compiled homebrew game. Your program can also be tested by programming an eprom up, sticking it to a proto board, and trying it on your actual lynx. But the emulator is very useful before you reach this final stage. http://www.esplexo.co.uk/ Songbird Productions is still releasing new lynx titles. Most of these links can be found off of the Songbird Links page: http://songbird.atari.net/links.shtml -vick

Ray Ryland posted this to the Alt.games.lynx newsgroup just recently. I've bought a handful of carts from him, and they work great. He'll even burn the ROM for you, if you don't have a programmer: >Subject: Lynx Proto Card, Batch III >Date: Tue, 08 Jan 2002 01:20:27 GMT >From: Ray Ryland >Organization: Road Runner > Newsgroups: alt.games.lynx > >Well, in a couple of weeks I get back the next >batch of Lynx Proto Carts. > >As before they will be $10.00 for a blank board >and $15.00 with ROM, just send me any .o or .lnx >or whatever and I will burn it onto a ROM. > >The boards take a standard 128k or 256k EPROM. >32 pin 600mil DIP, 120ns or faster.... > >I sold out of my last batch of 100 in about two months. >So if you ever wanted you demo, small game, homebrew game >or whatever on a ROM. Let me know... > >Will make a deal with high quantity orders, so if you want to burn you >homebrew game for sale, let me know. > > >-- >Ray >raydog@san.rr.com nimtene@hotmail.com
