  1. foft, the new NTSC color palette looks great! BTW, in the release notes it says: MIST:2600daptor or analog joystick paddle support Is the 2600daptor required to use paddles? Sorry, the "or" in that statement is confusing me
  2. I don't believe the Atarimax device will work with anything other than APE. I had been in contact with the SIO2OSX author and he told me he was waiting on info from Steven Tucker to get it working. So, unless something has changed that I don't know about, the Atari8Warez device might be the safer bet.

  4. First off, I want to say this is a really cool project and I'm excited to try it! I'm both an iOS and Android user and have considerable experience on both platforms. My personal bias is towards iOS but I think both platforms have their strengths and weaknesses. The primary reason I'd suggest supporting iOS as well as Android -- the iOS Bluetooth stack is WAY more stable than the Android one if we're talking Android versions as far back as 2.2. This is especially apparent with regards to Bluetooth LE even in the latest Android releases (although I assume this project is Bluetooth Classic given that it is supporting Android 2.2). I speak from experience on this :-) However, I wouldn't go so far as requiring iTunes to get disk images to the phone. A number of apps allow you to run an embedded web server directly on the phone for purposes of uploading files. The Z-machine interpreter "Frotz" comes to mind as an example of a released app that can take "ROMs" in this manner so I don't think getting such an app into the App Store will be an issue. When this becomes public, I'd consider helping out and porting it to iOS if there is desire to do so.
  5. This is so cool. I just got my Mist hardware and, after playing around a bit trying to get the right combination of firmware and atari800 core, finally got things working. Thanks so much for making this a reality!!

  7. Thanks, I'm glad you are enjoying it! Sorry, I forgot that the current version doesn't have directory navigation. I had explored that a bit and found that I couldn't easily get it working reliably. I don't think I ever tested with more than maybe 30 image files on an SD card. It could be a bug due to the number of files on the card. I'll need to take a look at it but work is killing me at the moment so it probably won't be for a little while.
  8. Yes, I had explored the same thing and found it wasn't as trivial as one might think. I had intended to go back and work on that piece but there never seemed to be much interest in the project so I didn't bother. I'll be interested to see what you find!
  9. Wow, I had no idea more than 2-3 people had actually built and used my project :-) @Arcanis-Will - I had tried doing the same thing with Arduino LED too. The SIO commands are so fast the flicker is hard to see. I had thought about maybe turning on the light on the first SIO command and then keeping it on until a certain interval passed with no commands. This would sort of act like the Atari drive light. @deanolium - Once you clean up your changes, I'd be happy to incorporate them into the project and create a new version.
  10. Hi RodCastler, How many files do you have in a single directory on the card? Can you try breaking them up into multiple directories? There is no code in there currently to add a second button. Fortunately, the source code is freely available and I welcome submissions :-) Otherwise, I'll consider adding it when I pick up working on the project again.
  11. Nice, glad you got it working! One thing I had noticed in the past: when the programming USB cable was hooked up between the Arduino and the PC, an SD init error would occasionally occur.

  13. I didn't see any devices announced on the forum other than those that are display-less or use 4 line LCD displays. What project are you referring to specifically? I guess the goal here would not be a cheap solution but rather a robust, full-featured one. The Arduinos have limited RAM which makes it difficult to include more advanced features.
  14. I've played a little bit with Raspberry Pi and it's a pretty cool device with obvious limitations. One idea that immediately came to mind was using it as an SIO emulator since it's got a ton of memory and could easily accommodate some pretty advanced capabilities. Since it's running Linux, it should be able to leverage a lot of existing code (AspeQT for example). I'm thinking a standalone Raspberry Pi-based device with a touchscreen controller like this would be pretty cool: http://www.4dsystems.com.au/prod.php?id=114 Thoughts?

  16. Yes, memory is an issue on Arduino devices. I was only able to get partial ATX support implemented and even that required a Mega 2560. Your implementation certainly looks more complete than mine (minus the protected formats) so I'll have to try it out. If you're interested in adding PRO image support, here's my reverse engineering documentation: http://www.whizzosoftware.com/sio2arduino/prosys.html I've also documented what information there is about the ATX format here: http://www.whizzosoftware.com/sio2arduino/vapi.html I started playing around with accurate timings for ATX images but the Arduino's small memory was a huge impediment. That coupled with the lack of a proper ATX specification made me lose interest. It really is a shame that the two major protected disk image formats (ATX and PRO) are at best partially documented and implementations (other than their author's closed-source, platform-dependent ones) rely on reverse-engineering efforts.

  20. I haven't tested it myself. As I said, when it was sent to me it was tested and working but I've never personally tried it.
  21. I have a CSS Multiplexer for the Atari 8-bit that I bought back in 2002 from Bill Kendrick and never used it. Bill had tested it and it worked at the time. Any idea what this is currently worth?

  23. That's cool but quite expensive. I'm not sure I see an advantage to that over a $14 LCD display.
  24. That actually looks like it would be perfect for a disk selection overlay! If I'm reading it right, it requires one chip and two resistors. I'd be willing to try and get some basic functionality working with that library but haven't the slightest clue how you would actually overlay it on the Atari's video signal.
