  1. Spot on post. The 5200 sticks were better than Coleco and Intellivision. Atari could have invested so much more than it did in 82. Still my favorite atari console.
  2. The 5200 menu looks really cool on the VCS.
  3. Yeah, I already do that on an emulator on my laptop. I'd like to buy it in the vcs store or on vault so I can use the new controllers.
  4. A few games only. Many mediocre to bad titles honestly.
  5. $399 is not worth the VCS package imho. I didn't make the purchase before. However, $250 reeled me in and I feel is the perfect price for many people like me. I'm glad to make the purchase. There's some kinks that need to be worked out (server) but I feel that Atari is working things out. I've had some fun playing different game systems on 1 console.
  6. I like the 7800 and 5200 games (store/vault) on the vcs. Any talks of future Jaguar games? I feel with a lower price (I got my VCS for 250) and Jaguar games in the store, you're going to see more VCS owners imo. Having every atari console on the vcs would be great. There would be a lot of people that would purchase NBA Jam, Doom, Tempest 2000, and Aliens vs Predator.
  7. The VCS is also a mini PC. So you can install windows 10 and every atari emulator. The 7800, 5200, and 2600 games I play are from the store which works on the VCS OS.
  8. @Ryan Witmer Atari is supposedly open to work with developers. Would you consider having your awesome work available on the latest VCS? Not sure you'd be interested but I think it would be cool Imho.
  9. Would be great to see an Rpg Jag game in the VCS store.
  10. I would have never bought this. But it was on sale at micro center for 250. Comes with 2 controllers. It's pretty cool, the controller stick (like a paddle) can turn so you can play arcade Tempest then switch to 5200 Super Breakout. You can also install windows and load up emulators. Plays Disney and Netflix too for the family. I like being able to play 2600, 5200, 7800, and the arcade games all on one system. I really didn't expect anything. I'm planning to put a Jag emulator.
  11. The Colecovision version had the same issue and place the scoreboard on the side.
  12. Why have a cart port when I already have a 5200? There's no need for for SD card because there are 3 USB ports.

    VCS Rpg?

Are there any VCS Rpg games available?
  14. I recently bought the Atari VCS at Microcenter for $250. With 2 controllers, I thought it was a good deal. I didn't think $400 was worth it before. On Vault 2, there is a 5200 section of games. They did a decent job with the virtual box artwork. Xari Arena and Asteroids were one of the handful of games. And I have to say they did a great job. The controls on the VCS are underrated and I really like how you can play games on both classic and modern controls. I wanted to note that the version of Asteroids was actually better than all the versions I've played before on the 5200. Seems like it was fixed up and played very well. The controls were very responsive. The classic controller also has paddle compatibility. You can turn the stick in circles. Playing Super Breakout was fun. I prefer the 5200 stick but its playable. For $250, i thought it was a good deal. And I like how Atari pays homage to the 5200. Just my 2 cents.
  15. I was able to get everything running. The server was able to work. The loading of the store was taking really long. I suspect a lot of people are downloading on their limited server.
  16. I was able to finally create an account. I had to update through general settings. Now when I try and log in and use my pin, it says to check my internet which is ethernet so I know my connection is fine. I think there's a server problem.
  17. I have a ticket and submitted a work order. I'm really disappointed with this vcs. Hopefully this is resolved soon. What a dud.
  18. I just got my new VCS. I tried to create a new account and it says, "Failed to fetch data please click..." I tried to sign in as a guest and there's nothing on my dash board. I'm really disappointed. Thanks for your help.
  19. My 5200. When I want to play the 2600, I use the 2600 adapter for the 5200.
  20. In 82, Atari still marketed the 2600. You had games like Centipede that was marketed both Atari system when the 5200 version was a big deal especially with the trackball. None of my childhood friends (I had 3 other friends that owned 5200s, a couple neighbors with Coleco) owned both console and computer in 82. I got my XL in 1984 when the 5200 was discontinued.
  21. In 82, the computer owners (8bit/Vic20/C64/Apple) were still separate consumers from the video game console only owners. I still have video game magazines from 82 and the advertisements of consoles were huge. It started to change in 83-84. People like me didn't know about atari computers. It wasn't just C64 sales in 82 that was a potential Atari sale lost, but it was Odyssey2, Astrocade, Vextrex, Colecovision, and Intellivision. You add in the 2600 and 5200 and you have 7 video game consoles saturated in the 82 market. As opposed to 86 when it was NES, Sega Master, and 7800? Or today, PS5, Xbox, Switch? That was the big problem with the success of the 5200. And atari was to scared to let go of the 2600 when they should have stopped in 82.
  22. I'm glad you like it but the retrogameboyz stick cannot be held like the original Discs of Tron on Intellivision. The 5200 sticks can be held in the hand while pressing the keypad like how the original Intellivision was but even better.
  23. I'll be purchasing this awesome game. I played it on the 8bit and the 5200 experience with the keypad is so much better.
  24. If you look at the magazines that covered the C64, many of the games they started to cover launched in 83+ (mostly starting in 83). Most of my C64 friends (I actually had 5 close buddies) started to play after 1984. A lot of people pirated/bought those C64 (and 800xl games too). The 82 competition between Coleco vs 5200 was evident and there were articles comparing the two. Having owned the 800xl in 84, the XL didn't really have popularity until later 83.
  25. There's no Keithen Tempest because he created for the 5200 exclusively. It's his right. He doesn't want the rom floating around for others to port. If you want 5200 Tempest, play it on the system it was created for. I noticed you're starting to make your requests again. #fortheH
