what about it? that's even worse in a graphic, sound, music, etc comparison. can you say blocky polys in iron soldier?
-
it's not even in the same league. the evidence is there and gorf refuses to see it!
-
The Jag can do an RS..... sure....in your dreams. you'd have to be blind to not see the difference in MB and RS. and the jag can do the sequel to RS too? I can pracatically count the polycount from those pisctures for crying out loud! Thos landscapes are hardly high detail. There are a few dozen or so large textured polies....go see HS...twice the polies...68k....move to GPU...It will do a rouge. Less poly count but not enough that you would see any real difference. Im not blind at all. you never even played the game on the n64. count the polycount on a youtube video/jpeg picture. great resource. hoverstrike? great graphics on the jag but still not on the same league. how about the same full motion videos, choppy movement, and slow framerate, good music but very limited. no where near rogue. jag doing rogue or naboo? forget it bro. yeah maybe a bigtime poormans version. you have no proof that it can do a good verson. just like your AI arguement that BS is smarter than all n64, psone, early ps2, and dreamcast games before halo. we all love our jag but cmon...your bias toward the jag is bigtime evident!

RS has no more draw distance than BM. Bland textures and a starfield for a back drop. There are MANY better looking games than this for the N64. The Jaguar's 2D power over the Nintendo shines here. BM's back drop blows away the one in RS. That backdrop in BM alone is eating up a ton of bandwidth right there. If we remove the backdrop from BM, replace it with a starfield and texture the polies right its the same look as RS with even sharper textures. The Jag will not have such blurry textures. I bet BM is actually puting up more polygons. RS is not doing anything special my friend....Don't get me wrong...it looks great but hardly anything I'd call a big bite. RS chugs its frame rate as well. Not to mention pretty much another on rails game when you compare it to BM. It's no where as free roaming, in fact it is still scripted(snoring). That alone help a programs speed. Less to compute. RS coded on 64 bit risc...BM still a ton of 68k code. Move the rest ove the 68k code over to the RISC and you will out do RS. RS is a very low polycount with high textures...See Hoverstrike. Move HS to the RISC and it will be as good or better than RS. RS is hardly a game I'd use as a comparison. It is Star Wars though, I'll give you that....too bad Atari still released the best Star Wars games of the all: The Arcade Machine! I have a sit down too!!! There is no game in the Star Wars franchise on ANY system that even come close to matching the quality game this is....and it on rails no less. All the new games no doubt look much better but they suck in comparison(I actually like most of them too but they have nothing over Star Wars the arcade machine in play.....not a damn thing....Anyone dont think so who may be in central Jersey, I'll challenge you to a side by side right in the garage. The arcade game is not even very deep....it just totally rocks in game play. The good old days. Why None of the big boys did not take the original machine and N64/PSX/Saturn it up, even after paying for the license, never thought of using that as a basis. I'll be honest...I've never seen the 32x game...I think I even own it... but I never actually hooked it up as I did not have the cables at the time when I got a32x with 7 games for like 25 bucks. Now it's packed away somewhere in the deep, dark, dire depths of my basement. say what you want...i've owned BM since i first got my jag cd and when i got RS on n64, it was no competition. a whole generation difference (it should be since the n64 was released later). you say all this and that about the technical aspect...no backdrop change is going to make it as good as RS. the feel, the sounds, movement, everything is far far superior on the n64. as far as framerate, RS is doing a great job. read the reviews and you'll see that when RS came out that it was noted to be one of the best graphically space games with excellent framerate for that time (you still needed the upgade through). i know then you havent played rs because the framerate is really amazing for that time... comparing the arcade to the n64 is apples to oranges.... don't even compare hoverstrike because that game is so dang slow and still can't compare graphically. the jag could never do an RS. not even making it competitive....

I'd rather be helpful and share my knowledge than trade insults over what is essentially stupid arguments to begin with. best comment from you gorf....you know a ton of computer tech stuff that everyone can all learn despite our preferences!

what do you think? there's a good number of titles (fight night, karateka, world championship karate, chop suey, ninja, etc) on our computers. but i have to pick world karate championship with the array of moves and 2 player battles. this game set ground for later games like mk and sf2....

Have gotten Virtual Jag to work on Mac OS x (G4 dual 800 mhz) and a 2.3 ghz IBM based machine. Both of them I got Bubsy running, and both ran at about 60%. Either the code will optimize, or the computers will get faster. Jagulator seems to be more oprimized from what I gather, but has a lot of emulation bugs still to work out. The original is best. The latest development release of Jagulator does indeed run up Fight for Life but is slow..... the irony of the name fight for life as the last title....

Battle of the Atari cats! Your opinions? This should be interesting.... we all know the jag had more potential power but comparing games like blue lightening and checkerd flag show how the lynx still can compete even in a graphics sense...

n64 rogue sqaudron vs jaguar battlemorph i thought this would be fun to compare. n64 looks smoother at a nice framerate, soundtrack is better, sound effects with surround that's killer, and the game is much deeper in missions and gameplay. sorry but the rogue looks like a generation advanced compared to battlemorph. the polygons in battlemorph just seem so outdated in comparison to the n64 (the texture maps still look good)... jags battlemorph still sounds good, music is adequate, and it's definitely a high quality title for the jag but you can see the difference. check out the other vids on rogue squadron because it has a tone of other cool scenery. n64 rogue squadron ---> jag battlemorph ---> if you can, open both videos and play them at the same time next to each other. in the end, both are great titles for their respected systems but jag gets a big bite on this 1 from the n64....

In your very own little, bizarre world. Why are you insulting him? He's giving you his professional opinion. Disagree with him, but why insult him? Plese post a video on youtube showing a game before HALO that shows evidence of superior A.I. to BattleSphere. i've already made my points with this. gorf concluded"...How am I supposed to prove that to you? Why would I waste my time? " also he mentions, "I just told you that Scott Legrand, the coder of the BS said so. If that is not proff enough and playing the games is not enough then Im out of options....they are more advance in a lot of ways but not the AI...they may come close but I doubt it." if you read into it, there's really no solid evidence. common sense will tell you a game system like the dreamcast is not only one heck of system...but a powerful one in both graphics, sound, and AI. dreamcast games like grand theft auto, conflict zone (which was designed by a team of AI developers), and half life have already AI complicated schemes along with the depth of the games. Dreamcast was before halo. other games with great AI include sim city (snes), star craft (n64), and seaman(dreamcast). without any testing, you really cannot prove battlespere is the most advanced AI since halo. but that doesn't mean BS is not great and doesn't have a great AI....

"Rogue Squadron and Battle for Naboo are way better then StarFox 64 in my opinion , although they arent the same type of games." ------------------------ rogue squadron was ahead of its time when it was released.
-
blurry graphics? try rogue squadron, Majora's Mask, ready to rumble 2, world driver, and f-zero. lack of good fighting games? mace, killer instinct, MK4, MK Trilogy, and ready to rumble are good. sound? the new tetris soundtrack is great..check it.

don't underestimate the smaller companies. look at alpine games on the lynx. has to be one of the best games in every category on the lynx by Duranik.

gorf would kill the jag! do the math!

Well after forgiving the hardware flaws like the polygon clipping issues and the missing polygons that are once again uncorrectable as the hardware is what it, Clearly it will push more graphical information...after what...four years of time to catch up....It sure does make the PS1 look bad in texture quality though...if you can forginve the flawed anti-aliasing...but at least the N64 does SOMETHING to cover up the jaggys. The Jag version would lack in comparison i'd have to admit. Im sure you could play a few tricks and do a decent version using shading and texturing combined as not to overload the renderer. It's hard to say just how good it would be. But I do know one thing. Those many few polies will look better than both systems becasue the GPU can correct on the fly math errors the you would need much more exspsive hardware 3D chips to do with out those errors...or waste a ton more cycles on computing out the rrors before you render the poly but then there goes the hardware advantage to some extent...not totally. The later N64 games were a little cleaner. In all honesty the N64 would still most likely look better all around. IT does have the rambus also. a bit of an unfair advantage to say the least. cmon gorf, the jag could somehow do rogue squadron right...even with the extra 4mg expansion pack?
-
yeah...no sarcasm...i didn't mean to sound that way. i might not agree with some points, but to each their own we all have our own views :-)
-
i've played "the new tetris" on the n64 for years. simply one of the best games on the n64. if you ever get to play with 4 players, it's amazing.... check out the reviews : http://www.epinions.com/game-Software-All-...~reviews?sp=ipt

opinion threatens? it's opinions that drive this forum. i think we can all agree that we all learn something new from these forums. i have learned a lot of technical stuff that gorf and other members have explained regardless of opinions. that in itself is priceless.... it's the personal attacks that i have a problem with that need to go.
-
CD32 isn't the same as the 32X... i stand corrected. thanks.
-
I've learned a ton from gorf and the rest. gorf, you are a programming guru. when your titles come out, i'll be in line like the next jagarfan...although i'm still a little lost on the 64 or 32 bit system debate. jbanes had some great points too... here are some great gorf quotes (from previous threads) about the jag and how it is superior in some way to all the systems below: Jaguar vs 32x - BattleSphere, Iron Soldier, HoverStrike would all probably choke the 32x. The 32x only has half the bandwidth of the jagur. It has 1/8 the memory of the Jaguar BattleSphere by itself outclasses the entire library of 32x titels combined. Cybermorph would choke your 32x." Jaguar vs. 3DO - "Jaguar has more horsepower" and "has twice the bus width and bandwidth than the 3DO." Jaguar vs Neo Geo- "Neo Geo is no match for the Jaguar; Trevor Myfur sucks, but it TECHNICALLY blows away ANYTHING your Neo Geo could ever do." Jaguar vs Saturn and PSX - "Jaguar has more process ability than the Saturn and PSX. The Jaguar beats the PS1 up in AI and in math. Furthermore, the 2D sprite engine in the Playstation is inferior to the jaguar." Jaguar vs. n64 vs dreamcast vs ps2 in AI/game logic category - "Jaguars battlesphere game has out classed every systems games until Xbox Halo in terms of AI and game logic." In other words, the AI and game logic has beaten every PSX, N64, Dreamcast, and early PS2 games (before halo). Games included are like Seaman (dreamcast-which gorf says is “primitive”), half-life (dreamcast/ps2), and grand theft auto (ps2), all are inferior to the AI in battlesphere. Where’s the proof? "Scott Legrand, the coder of the Battlesphere has said so." amazing stuff we've learned in comparison to other systems regardless of what our personal opinions are. in many ways, we can see that the jag kicks butt and holds its own.

Battlemorph vs. StarFox 64 set aside who likes what, starfox64 graphics, sound, and overall feel is a generation away from battlemorph....
-
how the heck did this become a political debate? lets keep the political views to a political forum...calm down gorf. Gorf says, "The Jaguar is so much more the machine thna the over priced overated Neo Geo could ever be." a machine is as good as its software. neo geo isn't overrated...it's an example of a machine with a high number of excellent titles. maybe overpriced, but not overrated. it's (neo) actually underrated given the fact that the genesis and snes were given much more media review.
-
its all fun debate....seriously, both claim 64bit and both are the last of the cartridge era....we all know the n64 has the advantage. but we've also compared 16bit systems to the jag. :-) Well if you want to hear the same technical jargon over and over and over and over again be my guest lol.. I think Gorf has to stop sometime, I'm sure he's tired of retyping it all. i'm sure the jag can handle the n64 somehow :-p
