classic battle atari 8bit vs commodore 64
phuzaxeman replied to phuzaxeman's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
The question is, why people anyhow could prefer something created by Apple. Even the new I-Phone i would not by , because it's from that rotten fruit club. Actually, if someone would say: Buy an Imac or a C64 for your live, I would buy the C64... even if I never got used to it. if you're in the film or music biz, the majority if not all of them use macs.....macs are the industry standard in those fileds. -
one of the greatest game shows was starcade....i used to watch that show because it had atari 5200 commercials.

It's funny. I've got PacMan for the 7800, which can be said to be a more accurate and faithful version of the arcade game. But there's just something about PacMan on the 5200 that keeps bringing me back to it. I didn't have a 5200 back in the day. My family went from the 2600 to the Coleco. I remember what it was like going from DK on the 2600 to the Coleco. The leap with PacMan from the 2600 to the 5200 must've been just as jaw dropping. And, yeah, I knew DK wasn't released for the 5200, hence the " " the sound on the 5200 pacman was amazing and better than the 7800

i honestly dont own alpine games. i'll have to check it out. the other great thing about shadow is the sound and zooming...what a great title for its time.

....The Jaguar should have been the coJag in a console. It could have kept right up with a Playstation. i always loved the jag and don't regret buying it when it first came out...i also don't know much about the hardware specs between the playstation and jaguar. the jag is a unique system in its own right despite commerical failure from atari. and i do also know that the playstation games are at a whole different level in comparison, owning both systems back in the day and even today....i don't think the jag could have kept up with playstation in anyway (graphics, controller, depth of games, sound, etc). you can take any decent title (not necessarily a grea title) on a playstation and it will take the jaguar's best game anyday in terms of graphics and depth of a game and sound (let alone gameplay). i do know that the psx was relatively easy to program because Sony provided solid development tools and because it had one processing chip with a 3D geometry engine in the CPU that help made the playstation last for over a decade(yeah 3rd party helps too)...the sound was also groundbreaking...to think a console released around 94 (japan) that had games made up to 2005 is really amazing if you think about it. you could technically say the jag could have hung with the playstation but i don't even treat them in the same generation...nor do i think the jag is better than the 3DO either in terms of sound, graphics, and depth on a strictly game comparison....and even if the jag did have the tools, the hardware, and support, compared to psx, i think it's irrelevent to bring it up because it could never happen, never did, never will compare to the playstation.... the jag is what it is, a powerful unique system back in its day, that was never fully used with a few good/great games and a quite a number of horrible games imho, but i still love it :-)

the longer you hold the button down (a), the more points you get in the air. your goal after you get some speed is to try and make a 180 degree turn while holding the a button. if you hold the a button too long, you'll "turn to hard." thanks 4 making play this game... I agree everything is hindsight. you can say all those things because time has passed and the original atari is dead. i have a problem with controller durabilty than actualy design. when you grow up on these controllers, that's all you know. as a kid, you just don't want them to break. try playing space dungeon, super breakout, kaboom, and other games on an intellivision or colecovision controller. anyone that thnks its a whole world better probably grew up on them....

Why not start today? That's what I was expecting to read when I opened this thread. yes. it would be great but i've got a couple new albums and shows to promote and play with my band and artist i'm currently producing....in time. i want to make sure i do a good right up because i know some people on here might take it personally (i.e., jag and 7800 loyalists).

I like pokey better for sound effects in many cases but that is probably a personal preference. oh man...the c64 had an amazing sound processor back in the day. -

i had a ton of titles back in the day on the 8bit. i even used the atari writer through high school and part college. one thing i noticed was that there weren't as many titles as the c64 released. i remember seeing an add for defenders of the crown for c64 and was jealous. also, i think the graphics between the two were very close but i have to give the nod to c64 for their awesome soundtracks and music. -
when you go down, you push down on the keypad. when you go up, you go up with keypad. you'll have develop timing with the turns once you go up.

an interesting vid if you haven't already seen it.... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=70...25158&q=c64 -
ok...it's been dragged a million times, and my 800xl is the king of atari hardware, but what do you all think? how does the atari match up against the c64?

cant find my dual controller holder... -
when it all comes down to it, it's about the number of good titles. the lynx has the best ratio of good games to bad ones. there are so many good games on the lynx, weather it be graphics or gameplay, that many people like. RPG? when will distant lands be out :-)

....I still do not count 3D0 as its price range told me it had better be up to date or close with computer power. i understand what you're saying, but i disagree. some of my (blessed :-) friends had the 3DO system at the time, so I had the chance to compare it with my jag back in the day. just because of the price doesn't mean you can't compare it to other consoles like the jag back then so i do count 3DO as "ground breaking" (like i did the jag) and a platform into the newer generation of consoles during that time.

i'm gonna vote for shadow of the beast.

sorry about the other posts, ignore those.

which game has the best graphics on the lynx?
-
i can't tell you the specs on a system and say which is more powerful. but i know that the games that i've seen on the 3DO looked cleaner and more refined in graphics and had better sound (cd might have that advantage). 3DO need for speed was amazing....too bad i couldn't afford that machine.
-
...No console on its best day before the Jaguar could come close to what Cybermorph. was doing. It had no competiton unless you want to include a decent PC(of that time.) yes there was....3DO was competition (yeah it costed what seemed like 1000 bucks back then). It was released a little before the jag. I was in awe when I saw the game Crash n Burn. I had never seen a game with such awesome graphics and gameplay during that time. Defintely the 3DO was ahead of its time but that pricetag turned many people off...
