  1. Jetset Wow, did you design the controller yourself? Since you seem to care so much about my "true gamer" status: I've been gaming for over 40 years, starting with electro-mechanical coin ops on the boardwalks in New Jersey. I've spent more quarters on "Chicago Coin" games than you have on Atari games. My first videogame system was a Fairchild. (more recently, I stood in line to pre-order a Wii and got one the first day). I was a teen when Pong came out. I pinched my fingers on the Atari Football trackball more times than you've played Pac-Man. My gamer-schlong is as long as anyone's on this board, but I guess questioning my "true gamer" status is your way of "getting me back" for offending your console of choice. In my expert-gamer opinion, the 5200 controller sucks. You are free to disagree, but your choice to make that a personal insult and attack me belies the very little man that you are. For the rest of you, more mature respondents, thanks for the input and advice. for an "expert gamer" and a person that wants "mature respondents" you claiming that your "gamer-shlong" is as long as anyone else does sound a bit arrogant. yeah the 5200 controllers aren't that great but get rid of the system if you don't like it. i personally think when it's (controllers) working, it's more practical and comfortable than the 7800, intellivision, and colecovision. owning games like space dungeon and robotron on the dual controllers plus owning centipede using the 5200 trackball is worth owning the 5200. contermeasure is another game that is also worth owning the 5200. also, 5200 baseball is one of the best games also on the 5200 that's not really on the 8bit. all those games i mentioned work well with the 5200 controllers. and btw, i do own all systems above and all have thier pros and cons....
  2. i could do a professional mix of these lynx samples but i don't have the time...maybe in the future. shangai and blue thunder have great music.... http://www.myspace.com/phuz http://www.myspace.com/julin (producer)
  3. U.V. is good if you're desperate for a jag fighting game. the controls/response on this game is horrible and UV is nowhere near Street Fighter II or MK. while the graphics are decent, the gameplay made me put this game on my shelf for good. i'm a huge fan of 2D fighting games and this ranks low for me. it's like a nice looking book cover until you actually start reading. the controls and fun factor for the game world karate champioship on the 8bit computer beats UV anyday...
  4. world champion karate, karateka, ninja, and chop suey are all great games. w.c.k. and chop suey are great games for 2 players. karateka on the 8bit is amazing and has a great story, while ninja is and you can use weapons. bruce lee rocks 2.
  5. you know i finished this game 3 or 4 times when i was a teen and never played it since because it took me so dang long. i actually tried it just now, after reading this thread, and the game is pretty hard....i remember the dude runs around with some cool music in the end.
  6. So units sold equals 'superiority'? By that thinking the Gameboy Advance is the greatest console of all time. Nice bit of gaming kit, but hardly the most 'superior'. The best console is the one you play the most. not solely. a system is judged by the games. that's what it comes down to. and when you look at it...the 7800 doesn't even compare to the nes. it shouldn't even be compared.
  7. ...I find it to be far superior to the NES... 7800 far superior than the nes? not even close. over 60 million units sold, controllers that set a new standard in video gaming, encouragement of 3rd party developers, amazing depth games like zelda, megaman, super mario, tecmo bowl, and punch out (to name a few), graphics and music, it's not even in the same category. i love my old 7800 but let's be realistic.... The 7800 could do all those games. what could and what actually happened are two different things. the 7800 is what it is.
  8. ...I find it to be far superior to the NES...
  9. my high score is 31,520, it not an easy game to master.
  10. I'd agree with that estimate. There are still quite a few that I'll plug in and play even though the graphics are a bit lame. I still love a good session of Attack of the Mutant Penguins, and that has no breathtaking graphics. On another note, I find it laughable that people blame Atari management for all the Jaguar's problems. I will admit that they did rush a lot of games out, and they were a bit naive, if anything. But you have to consider the size of Atari at the time. By 1993, when the Jaguar was first pushed out the door, their workforce was down well below 1000. I believe the old SEC filings placed them around 400 employees. Their assets at the time were around $35 million in cash and some change held in securities. They didn't even own a building at that point (just leases). Compare that with the original Playstation launch, which Sony dedicated $100 million in North American marketing alone, and you can see Atari had no hope. I remember most every video game magazine had Jag adds each month, and they were making lame attempts at commercials, although I don't think they ever could afford major network spots. So they made a desperate attempt at advertising. They would have been bankrupt in a month if they had gone all out with marketing. Also remember they were paying third parties to develop games and software. They were still attempting to operate a R&D department. They were attempting to provide full consumer support for the Jag and their dying line of computers. And they were attempting to launch a consumer-grade mass-marketed video game console. Personally, I'm shocked the Jaguar performed as well as it did. Atari was just too small and cash-strapped when they released the Jaguar to pull off any major video game market coup. But that's my opinion . but how about when they were selling millions and ruled the market? it's sad what the company couldn't maintain at their peak. actually companies like nintendo and sony have learned from the mistakes of atari. look at the wii and ds. both systems are not cutting edge of technology in terms of graphics and hardware but are ruling the market because of their slew of innovative games and smart advertising.
  11. good stuff. i found builing a dummy wall near the water helps prevent troops advancing.
  12. take the middle batteries out using the plastic that covers the batteries. i use the 15min rechargable nimh energizers.

    rampart

has anyone completed rampart? any good suggestions for strategies?
  14. does battlesphere require any mods for the jag?
  15. Don't expect them this year - however DO expect MegaPak vol. 1. what's megapack vol 1?
  16. yes "the worst" is relative. i'd say though that the jaguar was the least supported and had the worst library of good games in comparison to all other atari systems. the frustration is that it was one of atari's last system and you'd think they'd learn from the past. great ideas that never really developed. with the little number of titles, hardware flaws (hard to program), bad advertising, and a slew of other issues, the jag was destined to fail. i do still like my jaguar but play the system the least.
  17. any updates on distant lands and ultra?
  18. The 2600 has more mediocre and bad games then the others. Does that make it the worst system? The worst system is the one you don't play. because the 2600 has so many games and was the first cart system, it ranks to be on the top.
  19. maybe that's it. i agree, one of the most powerful (jaguar). but through the test of time, the lynx is probably the most powerful. the 5200 has way more good games than bad games ratio in comparison.
  20. i've got mostly all the main atari systems (minus the st). the 2600 has the most nostalgia, 5200 was my first system and my favorite with my lynx for such great games. the 8 bit computer was amazing since it had so many games and other cool software. but i feel the jag and/or the 7800 are the two worst atari systems. the jag (trevor/bruce lee) has so many mediocore and bad games. the 7800 (karateka/one on one) does too. don't get me wrong, i've spent hours on aliens and tempest on the jag but i think it might be the worst atari system. considering the market back then (ps1), the jag failed big time (for obvious reasons). btw, i own the jaguar since it first came out so i can appreciate the system. don't want to offend, but does anyone else feel the same?
  21. lynx rules. i'm still playing it after all these years. go figure, i play my lynx more than my psp.
  22. have you noticed how the 8 bit version is better than the 5200? for example, the 8 bit has the cool intro.
  23. anybody play infiltrator? i think this game ranks as one of the all time 8 bit greats. one of the best endings...like the eidolin.
  24. give justice where it's due....5200 version defender is killer. sounds, graphics, and controls pay homage to the arcade. all you 5200 haters of this version need to leave. i wish the ship was smaller though.
  25. get it. awesome game on the 5200 :-) if you know how to use your controllers, there's no problem.
