Could Stargate be hacked into a better Defender?
stop_rebel_scum replied to godzillajoe's topic in Atari 2600
Hm. Well, I guess the people want it. I forget about longing for arcade accuracy. I never had too many arcades around when I was a kid. -
Help! Weird CV display problem
stop_rebel_scum replied to stop_rebel_scum's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hm.. Thanks. no good on the PS though, it shows the same problem when used with my CV's PS as well as the one that came with his. Same problem with my carts in his system, and his carts work fine in mine. (wow, getting a little intimate there) anyway, the contacts are very clean, i've cleaned them for hours. I've also pushed them a little closer to each other to make the fit tighter (didn't help the problem). Someone suggested issues with the vram chip and that a test cart might exist? -
What's the relative value of these moneywise?

not to be snotty, but stargate AKA defender 2 IS a better defender already. -
Do you still have your original collection from childhood?
stop_rebel_scum replied to godzillajoe's topic in Atari 2600
crystal castles? like with bentley bear? is that really rare? This topic is going to generate some sad stories.. I gave my original collection away. It may still be in-state and i'm trying to track it down for emotional and coleco-vision related reasons. I've just got to get a hold of this one gentleman who nobody can get a hold of through a friend who sings for a funk band who might be pissed at me right now or through a brother who sits around all day on world of warcraft. Of course, the collection might have hit ebay years ago. I hope it's still in a cellar and will come back to me for 50-75$ or ideally freely. Dear collection I still love you I'm sorry for what happened I know my new collection is bigger and more expensive but we still want you back. -
What rare 2600 games have you found in the wild?
stop_rebel_scum replied to Dusk2600's topic in Atari 2600
ugh.. the best i've ever done has been miner 2049'er for 50 cents.. or montezuma's for a dollar.. I guess I need to hit more rare places up. So.. what about Bira Bira? -
PORTABLE 2600? ...Is this just a pipe dream?
stop_rebel_scum replied to OmegaMan's topic in Atari 2600
Who made that.. ben heck? don heck? don heckendorn? he has a sweet website with portable Everything... SNES, PS1, NES, i think 2600... -
I think that's too much. You can get a functioning 2600 off of ebay for cheaper than than.. and at flea markets and such around here I typically see the system go for 20 or so. If you just want a 2600, don't spring 50$ for it.. but if you specifically want the heavy sixer for collecty reasons(make sure they're not the light-sixers also I suppose) you might want to ask yourself if you also want the box, manuals, etc.

?'s about crash dive rolling and the 500xj enigma monster
stop_rebel_scum replied to stop_rebel_scum's topic in Atari 2600
no switch on the bottom. Just the centering/non centering switch and recalibrate center button, two action buttons. I would be very, very excited to have this made into a 5200 joystick if it's possible. I wonder who I could talk to for that? -
I have a weird one that doesn't work with any civilized atari system. CPUwiz says it's for an old apple computer. It's a male connector isntead of female, two buttons, etc. There's also an NES 500xj! I use the atari version exclusively myself.

stop_rebel_scum replied to stop_rebel_scum's topic in Atari 2600
one bump before my burning question fades into digital obscurity... I've messed with my TV and got it to stop rolling on this one cart, and instead roll on every other 2600 cart I have. hehe. Oh, that one cart and Desert Falcon. That game is crap anyway. Still curious about the joystick though! -
Anyone ever "finish" The Challenge Of Nexar?
stop_rebel_scum replied to godzillajoe's topic in Atari 2600
I love this game. I can't make it past 7 or so. I'm not Entirely sure I know what's going on? I have to shoot enough of the little toasters every level before my time runs out? Great gameplay, though. I would not want to bother doing 99 levels, I don't think. I'm sure someone could hack it up and see what the message would be if there was one. -
My friend has recently gotten a coleco and found that while some games work fine, others display garbled characters and repeating patterns on the bottom two or three inches of the screen. It's most notable in frogger. This does not affect play, but it's obviously not much fun. I've already tried cleaning the slot contacts (they look clean and an alcohol wipe comes off clean) and opening it and cleaning the on/off switch and it's contacts. I've exhausted what I can do! is there anything else? I'd hate to tell him to send it off to be repaired because I imagine that costs quite a bit. I could be wrong about that. We tested a few games and about half worked fine. (the games themselves have all been cleaned and all work fine on *My* colecovision, also, my copies of the games played on his CV show the same problems, so it's definitely not any of the carts individually but the system itself) Games that don't show a problem: squish 'em sam, bc's quest for tires, subroc, carnival, montezuma's Games that don't work correctly: Frogger, Zaxxon, donkey kong jr., cosmic avenger

I essentially got the 7800 for this game, which is truly great. However, it seems to get harder every time I play it! I used to be able to go through the game several times but now I can barely hack the volcano part. So much fun. The arcade was great too. Anybody have a picture of it? I remember a big crossbow attached to it!

Hacking Galaxian into Galaga how hard would it be?
stop_rebel_scum replied to sku_u's topic in Atari 5200
Sounds good. I tend to not buy ports of something I have on another system, so I'd be unlikely to buy this since I do own the 7800 Galaga, which I actually like. However, the more games that get made nowadays, the better. Huzzah to the providers. -
I'd prefer to play one game a week, myself. I think more than one would make the contest lack focus. Perhaps someone should compile these suggestions and make a poll, then establish the new HSC based on the poll results after two weeks or a month?

Then you better go and catch it! ... ...

Is the AtariAge store running?

ah, the no plaque pack. Why the patch wasn't shaped like a tooth, we'll never know. Very nice collection. I only have the one for keystone kapers, but I can't beat the score I'd need. The scores are crazy, most of them too easy and a few much too hard. Has anyone seen the alleged imagic patches? AA mentions them but it was the first and last I heard of it.

Yes, it's a great game. If you get the right pattern and keep going through the third temple, it should be easy enough to roll the score. I just got bored at 539000... the real action is on the 5200 (great version) coleco (uber-tough jumps, fast enemies) sega master (huge game, much easier, still tons of fun) and presumably c64 (don't own it)

here are pictures of the joystick. The pins under the foam are pretty short, two rows of 8 pins, evenly spaced. -
My new finds for the 2600
stop_rebel_scum replied to HP Atari King of Michigan's topic in Atari 2600
Those are all decent carts, but yea, nothing rare. Shortcake isn't fun. Racquetball is awful, but interesting to look at a for a moment.. my friends all have a copy each for some reason, so maybe it's not all that hard to run across. I think name this game is tons of fun personally. You have to keep shooting the shark, the tips of the tentacles, And keep getting air from the boat. The fellow up in the boat doesn't care that you're dying down there, his hair is all streaming in the wind and he's havin' a great time. The shark is happy when it finally gets you and runs off with your legs sticking out of it's mouth and the octopus is obviously having fun too. Did you get the grip case name this game or the standard cart? I have both, and the standard cart says "name this game and win 10,000" whereas the grip case just says name this game. I would name it.. uh.. Octopus's Garden. Return of Octopussy. Uh.. Diver down. Slippery when wet. uhm.. holy diver. -
I have a copy of crash dive that rolls. Does this mean that it's pal? I didn't think that fox made any PAL. the label looks pretty normal to me. My tv is relatively old, but it's never rolled with any of my other 200+ 2600 carts. Actually, I had a buck rogers that rolled for a while, then mysteriously stopped. Secondarily, I also have a weird joystick. It's like a normal Epyx 500xj, which I adore, btw, but it's two-button. There is also an option to switch the joystick from centering to non-centering, and a button to recalibrate. The plug is normal atari/sega 9 pin, but it's Male.(or female. I always forget if the lil dsub pins are the phalluses and the tiny holes the vaginas or the larger plastic molding which plugs into the general hole of the connector is the penis). Anyway, you can't plug it into a 2600 without a homosexual adaptor, which I have, but it still doesn't do anything. There's also an additional cable permanently affixed in a y intersection that has some very fine computer-style pins on it. They're embedded in some foam to keep from breaking, but I think there are about 10 or so of them, one row. What the hell is this? I know they made an NES 500xj with two buttons and a membrane button start and select, which is somewhat insane. I bought this hoping against hope I'd plug it into my 7800 and it would work as a two-button. No dice, of course. Anyway, i'd love to know what this was for. Some kind of gaming computer?

I know this isn't feasible since they're all different companies with all manner of legalities, but it'd be nice if someone would make a multicart of all the rarity 10's, one of all the 9's, etc.. but I suppose we may as well ride the cuttlefish or krokodile for that one.
