well, the 5200 really didnt fail..its a great system to this day..i just got mine a few days ago and it rocks the only real problems that ,( i just got into some debates on this site) are the 5200 analog controllers..they always break down ..you want a good one that works..get it rebuilt it will save you time in the long run..one guy here told me that half the fun is repairing the sticks with pencil erasers, tin foil etc..that dont sound like fun to me..the fun should be in playing the games on this awesome system... and the second thing about the 5200 is that on the console itself there are no start, reset, or pause buttons..just a big power button..you think atari could have put these Important buttons on the system itself..but instead they put these 3 inportant functions on the cheaply made controllers...so if the controller breaks your out of luck...for games like pac-man and others you have to hit the start button on the joystick and well, like i said u need this contoller to work right..its like the keys to start a car..its important...but once that is taken care of the 5200 is excellent:)

"MUST HAVE" carts for any 2600 collection?
darklord1977 replied to godzillajoe's topic in Atari 2600
the parker brothers star wars games are a must have! also the activision classics...seaquest, megamania, pitfall i and 2 ..spider-man for the 2600(i know its lame but its a collectors item) -
yeah im my opinion , the 5200 controllers were rushed..im sure atari ment to make sure that they would work well and everything..but everybody i talk to about this , says that these 2 things are major design flaws of the 5200...first off are the controllers(like everybody knows)..do you really want to spend your time literally taking them apart and repairing them..rather then actually playing the games.. i know some people enjoy doing that and thats cool, i like to look inside my systems to see what makes them tick sometimes also and second..there should have been the start, pause and reset on the console itself. it only makes sense ,just as a backup in case of this kind of problem...thats why they have all these features on the 7800..jaguar. even the 2600 had this(minus the pause feature) and every other system out there has these that are standered ..i think the designers wanted to make the 5200 system sleek as possible and, thats fine..but lose the controller functions and your out of business.. yes the atari analog controllers were a great idea.(prototype technology for their time). and well thought out , but they were manufactured Poorly somebody in the offices wanted to cut costs im sure...but back to the playstation controller..you never hear any problems with those controllers..they learned from the mistakes from the past ..the controllers are the most important feature of ANY system..

i kid you not

What lucasfilm Ltd games should've been on 7800?
darklord1977 replied to 8th lutz's topic in Atari 7800
since im a die hard star wars fan i would like to have seen tie fighter on the 7800 it would have played so much better than on the pc! also maniac mansion..and grim fandango... -
it all depends on where you buy your 7800 from .my girlfriend got hers off e bay with 9 games for around 40.00 including shipping where a coworker of mine paid around 100 dollars .. but beware, there are lots of rip off artists on e bay..they like to take advantage of collectors..its like with the star wars collectors the seller will jack up the price sometimes outrageously, because they know people will pay for it

2600 carts that won't fit in 7800's slot?!
darklord1977 replied to spiderallis's topic in Atari 7800
just ease the demon attack into the slot gently..and it will play great (lol kinda sounds erotic dosent it -
you can get a 7800 with some great games very cheap off e bay or a video game store..i actually found a mess of 7800 games with the boxes and manuals at k mart a few years ago in the clearence section..so with this in mind you never know where u will find a bargin:) the 7800 is ataris best system ..
-
if you try to open the 7800 and fix it yourself..you might end up doing more damage..i say just get another 7800 off e bay or someplace else they very inexpensive good luck to you
-
thats very creative...i did something similar with a radica sega genesis once..
-
my friend had about 12 broken 5200 controllers...thn we were at a convention last summer and a guy there was selling the new rev flex circuits so we bought a bunch of them and repaired them now we have lots of spare controllers that actually work now!
-
i also had it for the 400..then when it came out for the 5200..i was amazed it played great even with"those" controllers
-
Demon attack was far superior...i remember hearing that atari tried to sue imagic because of the similiarties....sure the games play the same...but demon attack had better graphics(well better graphics for the atari 2600 anyways) and was more fun to play than phoenix..i have them both and my friends always want to borrow demon attack
-
i found demon attack at a video game store by my house for 99 cents i always liked this game back in the day growing up in the 80s so i had to get it its a little tight in my 7800 but it works well...its still addictive after all these years:) i still remember the commercial... btw demon attack blows away phoenix...

yes, the 5200 is a awesome system. .ive played it at my friends house and im now waiting for mine to arrive..the joysticks are really not that bad for some reason i find them more comfortable than the 7800 joysticks but i agree the analog function and construction is half assed you can tell they rushed them if the controller goes bust u have to get a new one (but this is already known worldwide) at least atari should have put control buttons for the reset , select and pause directly on the console .because some games you cant even start without it its like a key to a car..this really ticked off my friend because Both his controllers fried out in the same day so he had to spend lots of money to get new rebuilt ones..other than that i think the 5200 is awesome the only analog controller that are really well built are the ones for the ps2 and xboxes ...btw this is my first post
