  1. I'll be there once again this year with the Lego NES and perhaps some other cool projects as well. :)

Dunno how I missed this, especially since IIRC you had it in the NA room and that was right next to our benheck show/modding/hackerspace room.

RE: The venue, even though there's hardly any space to move sometimes, I love the Sheraton Location. My health is pretty garbage and it's convenient to just walk down the stairs/take the elevator and be right in the middle of everything instead of having to walk/drive even across a street. I doubt they will change locations until a hybrid hotel/convention center is built, especially with the late night/afterparties. Probably Typical Wisconsin but I'd figure the DUI rate would quadruple.

  2. I'll be on the lookout for a Harmony Cart, or whichever is the most ideal now for the Flashback 2. Also some Wonderswan games; bought one from the dude that wasn't Madgear, and then got bogged down with event stuff and didn't make it back into the "temporary structure" (Dan gave me a stern dad-lecture when I called it a tent ) at all on Sunday.

We'll be running the Benheck Experience again, most of the same stuff as last year, 3D printing all weekend and a few new projects and portables, (hopefully) fixes, etc. I'll have two Flashback 2's up on display, one toploader and one frontloading, and hopefully some pre-wired kits.

We're also a part of the VIG Friday night show too where we will try to build a Nintendo on-a-chip portable almost completely from scratch from 6pm to Midnight.

  3. I won't be attending but just a heads-up about the road construction lane closures:

    http://projects.511wi.gov/documents/15899/324b9153-ab01-4be7-b1b1-d5a9cf9b9c1a

Can someone explain what exactly is closed here? Is it just the ramps indicated in red? I'm coming from Chicago taking 294/94 to 43/894/back to 94, but if that ramp is closed I suppose a better option is going 94 to 43 directly to S. Moorland Rd, skipping 894 altogether?

  4. The problem with these screens is that they are produced so cheaply and in mass quantity that it's impossible to tell what kind of screen you are going to get on terms of quality and functionality. Some people have ordered bulk screens (10-15 at a time) from one seller's listing and received 4 or 5 different motherboards. I've also come across many screens that have issues working only on Sega products as well; either a single line of doubling interference or just refusing to display a picture at all. One even only showed a picture during the split screen Sonic 2 demo and nothing else. All those screens work flawlessly on any other system not by Sega (which of course was the only reason I needed them)

I don't think anyone's bothered to find a "fix" for finicky screens like this. By the time someone could figure out what the problem is there would already be 2-3 different board revisions by then anyway, which is pretty much the reason nobody have perfected S-Video out on these yet.

Since you only need 1 screen I'd suggest just to try again. When I was having trouble finding suitable screens I went to dealextreme instead of ebay, sorted the search of 3.5" TFT by "Latest Release" and browsed backwards for a screen manufactured from 2012 or before.

  5. Just wanted to bring up Repairs again before heading up to the show tomorrow. We'll take a look at anything pre-PS3/XBOX 360 era, we just don't want to spend the entire show diagnosing YLODs and RRODs. Might consider looking at Wii's depending on the problem. No CRT's either, sorry, they are extremely volatile and a hotel room really isn't the place to be messing around with that. Nobody wants to miss out on the MGC fun on account of they are now dead.

Other than that we'll have some cool stuff going on; Nomad Screen replacements, maybe internal battery mods if USPS plays nice, NES2 Toploader A/V mods and kits, a 64Drive and N64 Video Convertor display (running VGA atm, will eventually get HDMI support but a board revision is needed first IIRC) and some portables and other mods to play. Should have a Flashback 2 cart port mod set up, and have a wired cart slot or two for kits. A 3D printer will also be on hand so come check out some demo prints.

We'll be operating as the Benheck Experience featuring the Portables of Doom in one of the cannibalized hotel rooms. Come by and say hi!

  6. MGC! If anyone has any consoles that are broken, we'll be doing troubleshooting and fixes again in the "Benheck Experience" area. Anything Pre-XBox360/PS4 Era we will gladly take a look at, just leave a post on what console and what the issue is for us to do a little research on possible solutions before the show. (Event Location is still TBD)

  7. I just realized I missed the pre-order period for tickets to this thing. That doesn't end up being a huge problem for me, does it?

On Saturday morning the pre-order line is usually longer than the walk-in ticket line, for the last couple of years anyway.

  8. Pretty neat game but I suppose I haven't played enough Persona to fully enjoy the experience. By the time I get around to that, well, I'm sure everyone here is well aware of backlogs so I might as well let someone else enjoy it until then. Discs are in excellent condition, only played a few times. Includes soundtrack, which was given away as a preorder bonus.

$42 shipped to USA, not interested in International shipping at the moment.

  9. I'm depressed right now, so have an extra good time and get me some nice pics. Know I'm really missing the chance to hang with you guys. Right now Marty is probably sweating bullets getting the museum ready. Hope you have a happy birthday even though it's a ton of work. You like this stuff or you wouldn't be doing it

I ran into Parker earlier and he was looking for you. He sends his regards and wishes you could have made the trip (as we all do).

  10. I have a bunch of stuff for trade (wherein I should have gotten a vending table, but there's just way too much to do that I don't think I could set behind one table for most of the event). I'll be downstairs most of the time in the "Retro Horizons" room this year with the Benheck forum collective, showing off some console mods and repair and all that stuff. What I am looking for:

Old ATX Power Supply for a NEOGEO MVS console project

    NEOGEO MVS Games

    Space Harrier 32x box

    3DO longbox games

    Dreamcast games

    Jag CD games

    Maybe TG16cd console

    Vectrex console

    Wonderswan games

    FS/T

This is the Atari-centric section of the internet so I'll post that stuff here first, outside of the spoilers

2600 Vader shell. I was going to mod another console inside it but that might be deemed blasphemous so I'd trade for a regular 2600 shell and a Dreamcast game or something.

Broken Jaguar, probably a cart slot issue.

2600 River Raid CIB with the blue cart

    2600 Montezuma's Revenge CIB

2600 Miner 2049'er Vol. II cart only

    CONSOLES

Datamax Kids Delight, popular case for portables.

Dingoo A320, black. Needs new battery (link to dealextreme)

Dreamcast White, console only, (kyle has controllers for sale probably still)

Genesis 2/Sega CD bundle. Will sell either one seperately. 1 3rd party 6-button Controllers, No Power adapters. Free Sewer Shark.

HTC Aria Cell phone. AT&T GSM branded.

Jaguar Console only, broken. I think it is a cart slot issue. If you are a bad enough dude to try and fix this, be forewarned that the cart slot has nearly 150 pins.

N64 Jungle Green, 2 matching controllers and hookups (system just has jumper pak)

    Playstation 9001 console

Playstation 1001 console, with the Composite jacks in the back/audiophile sound bs

    Radica Genesis, BLUE.

    Rock Band 2 wireless drumset

Saturn Oval button Console, broken. No hookups or controllers. Might be fixed by pot tweak. Good case, maybe for another mod [cough]allinonegenesissegacd32x[/cough]

Sega CD, broken. Might be fixed with pot tweak. No power adapter.

Sega Master System w/hookups, 1 3 button genesis controller (they work on sms, as does 2600 controllers). Have 3D glasses and Light Phaser and games too.

Socrates 1980's Learning Computer. More information here.

Smartq5 MID 4.3-5" tablet. Small scratch on corner of screen.

Turbografx16 console with back dust cover thing w/standard RF cord. No power, have a controller that doesn't seem to work, stripped screws cant get the case open to investigate.

    CONTROLLERS/ACCESORIES

    Steel Batallion Controller, untested

    Dreamcast Controller extension cables

Gamegear Powerback external battery. Doesnt hold a charge. Good for astetically pleasing extra space on a portable mod using a GG as a case (I think it was EvilNod that did this on an N64-GG portable)

Master System 3D Glasses w/Adapter. Glasses only have 1 side extension but you usually see them sold with zero.

Master System Light Phaser Zapper Gun

    NES Advantage Arcade Style Controller

Crapload of NES dust covers. Some say Nintendo, others don't. (Specify which you are looking for)

NES Zappers. 3 grey, 2 orange.

NES Gunshot Controller. Looks like the Quickshot As seen here on some weird auction site

Crapload of official N64 controllers in pretty much all colors. Let me know what colors you are looking for.

PS1 Dual Analog (not digital analog) controller with concave sticks/flight stick sim mode. (link to more info)

    Ps1 Offical multi tap

    Ps2 Offical multi tap

MakoPad 64. Popular controller for N64 portables

Plethora of 3.5" Ebay Screens. They are the ones with the switches on the back for imageflip, brightness, and contrast. Finicky for whatever reason on certain consoles (doesn't work with N64 or Sega Nomad). I'll have my screen testing setup so we can try it on basically whatever system you want to use it for.

  11. Even though Ben Heckendorn himself will be stationed with his pinballs in the main hall this year, the benheck forum members continue the tradition of the Benheck.com experience. Stop on by downstairs for console mods, user created portables, console repair, and some cool stuff my MarshallH from retroactive.de; the 64drive, some fpga/vga video output I don't understand, and a home made proto of a game he is making.

If you have something that you want us to take a look at for repair, please post here what it is and what you think the problem might be so we can gather information before the show for a better outcome of success. I think we usually end up fixing about one or two things a year (last year I think it was a tapwave zodiac, of all things) but it doesn't hurt to have a look and hope for the best.

  12. There was one like that for auction in august. The seller took the sticker from spiderman and altered it in some way (I think it says Marvel somewhere on that one and he just cut it off). For mine I just entered the UPC in Google (which results came up as the item I had) and asked around a couple places and it seemed to be legitimate. Obviously there is no way to tell for sure unless you are the original owner and bought it from the store, but it wouldn't make much sense either to fake a bar code just to trade it for a couple bucks at a record store either.

  13. Yeah I think this was the last SMS release in the US. Since it was so late in the lifespan they just put the UPC sticker on the case over the PAL upc code instead of making an entire production of new games. Any of them that didn't sell they probably shipped them off somewhere to another region in did the same thing. Couple that with the possibility that anyone that did buy game here in the US might have just thrown the box or, or even peeled off the sticker (its kind of unsightly just attached to the back of the clear plastic part of the case). The buyer had been looking for it for a long time (I heard that the last legitimate one for sale was in may 09) and it was the last game he needed to complete his SMS collection.

Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised at the final outcome of the auction. :)
