stella.zip I am trying to get a video capture of a PAL screenshot, displaying all colors. Will post it here. This is my last update for a 'decent' palette for Stella, PAL mode has the same color stripes as the NTSC mode, but in the same order as the other palettes (Standard, Original Stella, Z26) ROM used this time is: Color Test (26-09-2002) (Eckhard Stolberg).a26 If you like the palette, PM me for the 'stella.pal' file, I won't post it yet unless you really want it, people. Please do post it, Nabuko78. Your palettes are always greatly appreciated. -Trebor LOL OK There you go. Also got updated palettes for 5200 (kat5200) and 7800 (ProSystem 1.2), I'm sure you'll apreciate it too, Trebor. stella.zip And that's my final update for color palettes for atari, hopefully.

I *think* you never tested such systems on this MESS release right?
-
Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel that the Atari emulation in M.E.S.S. is still a whole MESS... I didn't liked this version (0.116) , it crashes when you update the roms files directory (games, not bios) and 7800 emu got worst this time: alien brigade crashes like most of the ms. pac-man hacks, some other roms don't run properly, etc. 5200 is the same case as 7800. Can't even talk about 2600, it's pretty lame for me in MESS. And the ColecoVision has now an annoying 16th color that was never there because it used to be the 'transparent black' color (AAARGH!) not even hacking messlib.dll helps to remove it. And now 2600 PAL? What the hell happened to M.E.S.S.? It used to be a good emulator at the very beginning when brought out atari 7800 emulation for first time. Now its buggy and crashes every time.

Do you know exactly what PAL colors should be shown on a real 2600? Right now I'm fixing my user-defined palette for Stella but never tried to arrange PAL colors, it's not my strenght yet.

The picture with the Sega CD blue box: above the box there´s a bigger one with a cable hanging out, what it´s supposed to be? LOL

Thanks alot. Which emulators do you use with MameWah besides mame? I'm not sure what are the best emulators for each given system and how well they work with mamewah... Mamewah is friendly with almost every emulator existing, including MESS (I highly recommend you MESS 0.111 with Mamewah) Here's a list of emulators I use with this frontend: Atari 2600__________Stella 2.3 Atari 5200__________Kat 5200 Atari 7800__________Mess 0.111 / ProSystem Colecovision________Mess 0.111 Intellivision_________Bliss 2.0.5 MSX 1/2/2+_________Bluemsx PC Engine__________Magic Engine / XE Emulator NES_______________Nestopia SNES______________Zsnes GBA_______________Visualboy Advance Sega SG-1000_______XE Emulator Sega Master_________XE Emulator Sega Genesis/32X____Kega Fusion 3.51 This is not a full list of consoles I'm emulating right now, hope that helps.

I see you all liked my working on the palette for 7800, and that's great because it was thanks to you and not just to me it was done, for your concern and constant support. Also I made another minor update to this very palette, and yet there are few issues to solve. I haven't contacted the MESS team yet, perhaps Mitch can make the effort of contacting them one more time. The file is located here, along with other palettes I made. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?a...st&id=66876 Yesterday I was aiming my efforts in another palette, this time for Sega Master System, but I can't do much 'cause I couldn't find in any of the emulators the exact location of this palette (64 colors). Maybe It just finish in other .pal file that may not be used for emulate. Thank you all again for your support!!!!! =D Merry XMAS

Merry Christmas AtariAge! I'm including in this post all the color palettes I've been working till today. Hope you enjoy them. Thanks. Nabuko_Palettes.zip Forgot to tell I updated the 2600 palette and its in this ZIP, it's not the same as the file in the previous post. Thank you

Hi folks, I've been working in a remake of my color palette for 5200/7800 which fortunately I finished today, and quickly made a palette for this new release of Stella 2.3 (Congratulations, Stephena!!) as described by stephen: 128 triplets for NTSC and 128 triplets for PAL colors. Unzip this file 'stella.pal' in the same folder as the emulator and then choose palette User in Video Options. That's all. You can compare the 4 types of palettes quicky by pressing Ctrl+P, and Ctrl+F for switching NTSC/PAL modes. thanks again everyone. stella.zip

Atari 2600 Mexican Versions. Rare? Common?
Nabuko78 replied to SegaMasterMonster's topic in Atari 2600
Hehe forgot to mention: damn cheap paper-like labels, they get torned and dirty after some months of playing them but still get glued to the cart for many, many years even if you forgot 'em in the most darkest basement. How cute! -
Atari 2600 Mexican Versions. Rare? Common?
Nabuko78 replied to SegaMasterMonster's topic in Atari 2600
In fact, there were more Mexican versions with labels which include boxes and manuals completely in Spanish. Examples of this are "Héroe" (Hero) and others like "Policías y Ladrones" and "Los 3 Cochinitos" (I don´t know the names of their american counterparts). And look at this beauty I found in my mess: This one too has "normal" Atari case, but what amazes me is that this is not based on an Activision game: you can tell that is Galaxian of course. BTW, some Atari 7800 games included manuals in Spanish too when were distributed here. Hope these pics and information help a little I tell you what games are these: "Los 3 Cochinitos" = "Oink!" and "Policias y Ladrones" = "Keystone Kapers". I had these as original activision carts but back in 1985 me and everyone I know used to call Keystone Kapers "Policias y Ladrones" ("Cops and Robbers" in a textual way). As far as I remember, my atari 7800 which I still have but broken came with the original box reprinted in spanish and the user manual, and a catalog in spanish too. 7800 Pole Position II came with a elegant black and white label in english, and the bottom of the console with a FCC compliant label in english. Right, 2600 and 7800 carts in Mexico came with original box in english, some, not all and manual printed in spanish. -
Atari 2600 Mexican Versions. Rare? Common?
Nabuko78 replied to SegaMasterMonster's topic in Atari 2600
Yes. Exactly. Atari Mexico choosed to release both Atari and Activision games under the label "Atari Cartucho Original" ("Atari Original Cartridge"). As far as I knew in that days, they only released such activision games; "Activision Decathlon" was released in the same way as the other games, so make it the 4th in the series from Mexico. The rest of the atari games in Mexico? Were exported from USA and not produced necessarily for the latin market, but worldwide. Another interesting fact: Atari 7800 made its debut here in 1988, 1 year after the 2600. I won one in a contest, and since then I'm a fan of this almost unknown system. BTW thanks to SegaMasterMonster for bringing pictures of this uncommon carts for most of you, and common for people who owned atari systems around Mexico. Sincerely, I didn't expected the existance of "Tanque Robot" (Robot Tank) and "El Esquimal" (Frostbite). My original "Supercocinero" has an atari case instead activision case. -
Atari 2600 Mexican Versions. Rare? Common?
Nabuko78 replied to SegaMasterMonster's topic in Atari 2600
In Mexico these were the only carts known to be with labels, boxes and manuals completely in spanish. I must say that are the same games released in the U.S. Of course original cartridges from Atari and other companies were known here; and the bootlegs too, such as "boom bang" and "pac kong" I have "supercocinero" cartridge, and oh, "decatlón" was other activision game released in Mexico. -
A note for myself: do not delete this backup until I finish my mamewah setting project or when I build my multi-console

Should the color palettes for colecovision-msx-similar and Intellivision get changed and improved? I've been working in new colors for the emulators of these systems, and I want to know what do you think about this. Must be preserved or changed?
-
I guess I have to find a used second-hand original xbox to make them work... question: Can I install any win32 emulator or I must find xbox compatible emulators only? oh and frontends!

Pictures of 2 Inty games, using Bliss emulator with color palette hacked Isn't that cute?
-
Today I dedicated to improve other systems/emulators color palettes. This time was for Colecovision, Intellivision and NES. The pictures below shows the corresponding palettes for Coleco and Inty, both are 16 colors, and of course they are different one of another. In the after picture, I tried to match most of the colors in both Coleco and Inty, but some characteristic colors remained in their respective places. This time I added the hex triples (RGB) of each color. LEFT: Original Palettes RIGHT: New Palettes done by me Things I noticed: Coleco only has 15 colors, not 16 as I though in a beginning, cause the first color is used as a transparent or background color taken from the rest of the colors, and in every game/screen it can change. On the other hand, good old Inty uses 16 colors, but in one of the emulators I've been studying, in this case Bliss, I found that it has.. 32 colors!!!! yes, 16 basic colors x2, one array after other. And also, they can be different, so Inty can show 32 colors on screen (in Bliss, of course) but it's not highly recommended to have different palettes: sprites may suffer a color rotation durning emulation, and backgrounds objects shows 2 different tones (if that's the case) in a undesirable way. So I went forward and left only 16 colors.. wrong, 17. I added the real brown color Inty should show, in the place where the green that appears each time you start a game is. Also this green remained in the second palette, for the welcome screen only, so the real brown appears on the game most times.

Well what I got for you today? A new palette, yes, that's right.. this time is for the 2600 emulator Stella. I know it cannot be used now, that's why I making it before the new release of Stella, which will support the user defined color palette. It consist of a 256 color array, 128 colors for NTSC games and 128 for PAL games. Right now I'm just testing this palette under ProSystem 7800 emulator using the color selector demo rom, so I don't consider it as an official palette... yet, PAL colors need to be re-done. megaman.zipmegaman.zip As you can see I generated two palettes, with slight differences in the PAL color swatches. See any difference between NTSC and PAL colors? Well, there aren't. PAL colors here are exactly the same NTSC colors, they are relocated in different positions. Download the 2600 palettes for view with ProSystem Here: megaman.zip BONUS PACK: For those who want to start ProSystem with my palette, w/o setting it up each time you load a rom, here's the .exe file hacked. ENJOY IT! track_and_field.zip Don't forget the ROM to view it! Have a good evening everyone!!!

Well, MAMEWAH is a frontend. You know, a program which let you play your emulators without the windows environement. This one lets you play many emulators as possible, and although it was designed for MAME, it's easy to use for any system. From all the fronteds I downloaded and tested (GameBase, Atomic FE, MaLa, ArcadeOS) for me this is the best frontend because it's highly customizable, alas it lacks of a main menu or welcome screen, it's capable to play sounds, music, videos, screensavers, but not able to use a video as background or .GIF support. Minwah, his creator, says that might be possible to add this feature soon. Maybe in the future the graphic environement of this FE (Frontend) will make your PC looks like a XBOX. At this moment I'm working in the layouts screens for all emulators, and then make separate screens for each system I'm running. I must say that when you install it, you have to start from scratch: no main layout, no game lists, the emulators and its configs goes by your own, and the example .INI files and layouts are pre-configured by their authors, and there are some themes that looks "cheesy" (not all but few of them) and I think that its better to make the themes by your own. You just need a bit of talent with photoshop. Once you domain the functionallity, of Mamewah the rest is too easy. I want to show you what I'm doing now: When you run Mamewah what shows first is the Game List Screen of the only emulator you have (or last visited). The screen in right shows the Options Screen when you press Player 2 Start (Key 2 in the keyboard) where you can choose system, system group, game list and other options, like exit. When you press Player 1 Start (Key 1) it appears another screen, the Message Screen, oftenly when you load a game (also used when comes an error message and shutdown ) dont worry, errors aren't common thing in Mamewah After loading the game, this screen shows for breif only and next pops up your favourite game. After quitting of the game, you return to the Game List Screen. Any comment about my layouts designs are welcome, anyway.

Thanks for the hint, Michael. I had some issues trying to run kat5200 under MAMEWAH, and I found that for using this emulator in fullscreen I must NOT toggle the GUI when I exit the emu, if I want to see the game screen first, and configure the user commands, like exit using ESC key. And of course, the directory path. I forgot those steps. Thanks again =)

Hi again. I am having troubles trying to open my roms in KAT5200 through commandlines. And the help document that tells how to use has not a true example about using it. Does this works for anyone? This is where I have stored the emulator: C:\SOURCE\EMULATOR\KAT5200\kat5200.exe This is my Rom path: C:\SOURCE\ROMS\ATARI 5200\[name].a52 the box [name] is the name of the ROM that is being used by MAMEWAH, a fronted for many emulators, through a list with rom names, game names, and game full names, and runs everything by .ini files In the case of this emulator the .ini file should look like this ### 5200.ini ### emulator_title ATARI 5200 ### List Generation Settings ### rom_path c:\SOURCE\ROMS\ATARI 5200 rom_extension a52 dat_file nms_file catver_ini_file list_generation_method rom_folder ### Execution Settings ### pre_emulator_app_commandlines emulator_commandline c:\SOURCE\EMULATOR\KAT5200\kat5200.exe "[rompath]\[name].[romext]"{nodosbox} post_emulator_app_commandlines general_app_commandlines Or in any case can be used the full commandline that should be: c:\SOURCE\EMULATOR\KAT5200\kat5200.exe "C:\SOURCE\ROMS\ATARI 5200\[name].a52"{nodosbox} But none of this isn't working. After opening the emulator it shows the GUI mode and not the game as must be, thats why the commandline for, and that's the frontend supposed to be. I need help please!!!!

All your comments are welcome, complains too! But don't complain too much ^^ Yes, its right about DK. I never had Donkey Kong in cart but Donkey Kong Jr., and as far as I remember the color looks good, not like in DK where Kong and Mario looks "pinky" I think that color scheme was in part a "bad selection" of the programmers, Trebor noticed that, you're not alone. If weren't for the palette, the beams will still look purple and not red. Yeah, some colors cannot be changed or disappeared.
