I haven't played the VCS version of Threshold in years, but I remember it being an altered version of the original game with more colorful graphics and greater freedom of movement for the player ship but missing the laser temp gauge and having screwy collision detection.

So...I found a copy of Cat Trax today for the 2600
Psionic replied to TheVgaTv's topic in Atari 2600
My friends and I had a similar situation with a particular Aramark vendor who used to hawk in the stands at Shea Stadium/Citi Field and Yankee Stadium. This guy would say everything in a backwards or somewhat screwed up fashion. If he was selling Cracker Jacks, he would call them "Jack Cracker". Or if he was selling Häagen-Dazs ice cream bars, he'd go around yelling "how 'bout that Doc Häagen?". We thought it was hilarious and still make jokes about it. I don't go to ball games like I used to, so I sometimes wonder if that guy is still there doing his thing. -
You had to complete mission 4 (or higher). https://atariage.com/manual_page.php?SystemID=5200&SoftwareLabelID=620&ItemTypeID=¤tPage=5&maxPages=8

Not much is known about this game. Like the planned 2600 port, the original arcade version was apparently not distributed (at least not in the form of a wide release). At least one Japanese conversion kit is known to exist in a private collection, but as far as I know the game itself is unarchived and not available on MAME.

Part of the problem is that the prongs weren't really meant to stick out like that. The first batch of Tigervision games have a spring-loaded dust cover just like first-party Atari VCS cartridges. Apparently Tiger got cheap fairly early on and didn't want to pay for the springs, so they just inverted that piece and placed in a fixed position on most carts. I think only King Kong, Jawbreaker, and Theeshold exist with that piece in the proper orientation. There have been some oddballs found that seem to have escaped from the factory, but I would tend to believe that white King Kongs that pop up are most likely PAL since Carrere Video used that style of case in significant quantities in Europe for their versions of the U.S. Games titles. With regard to prototypes, they've been found in various colors. Correct...a lot of the ones you see floating around nowadays came from that same source.

MUNCHER for the Bally Astrocade - now available for sale!
Psionic replied to timdu's topic in Bally Arcade/Astrocade
This link no longer works. Can someone post a picture of what these cartridges looked like as compared to the originals (which there were several variations of)? -
The power jacks are different by design though, so plugging in the wrong one isn't possible under normal circumstances. Sega knew that people were idiots and might fry their console.

I've been taking apart the Vectrex systems I own and have found that the two Hong Kong units (Serial Nos. 0092244 & 0146125) are both held together by a set of five black anodized sheet metal screws with flat tips, like the ones recommended for replacement in the Amazon link above in post #5. The bottom center screw is of course much longer than the others. In my Taiwan unit (Serial No. 128157A), the top two screws are the same as above but the bottom three screws including the longer one are different, slightly longer screws with wider threads and self-cutting tips. These being different makes me think they are possible replacements but this particular unit saw very little use, so this is a bit hard to imagine. Can I assume there was some variance in the original screws that were used in the system itself? I've attached a photo below for reference.

What were the Defining Games for the Atari 2600?
Psionic replied to InvaderPac's topic in Atari 2600
Activision shipped their first four titles (Dragster, Boxing, Checkers & Fishing Derby) in July 1980. They released Skiing and Bridge later that year. -
This looks great and I would love to have one but "ouch" on the price. It's certainly true that you get what you pay for, but I could sure buy a lot of other games (or any number of other things) for $6k.
-
You're so smart! How on Earth would I get by without you?
-
Did I say there was a problem? I questioned why people are "willing to pay" so much for a standalone cartridge of a commonly available test program.

I spoke to Don Ruffcorn years ago but I didn't realize he had been involved with the Channel F at the time. In hindsight, it makes sense. After Rick Maurer left Atari, he and Ruffcorn started a company called Is'Action which supposedly developed games for 20th Century Fox and others. I suspect the games that Ruffcorn did for Telesys were actually developed by this company.

The Master System & original Genesis adapters are (-) but the Genesis 2 & 3 are (+). As stated above, the Game Gear and Nomad use the same one (MK-2103) as the Genesis 2.
-
So much for "affordable". I see you sold one at a fixed price for $18 but the one up for auction is at $67 with nearly four days left? Is there something super special about this version of this Test Cart that I don't know about, or is this just being run up by silly people that have no real idea what they're bidding on? For $80 you could buy Sean Kelly's Multi-Cart and have the Test Cart program, along with most of the rest of the Vectrex library. Am I missing something here?
-
Was the Game Gear known to work beforehand? The stock GG power supply (MK-2103) yields 10V DC / 0.85A / center +.

Cartridges are usually pretty resilient apart from certain games by specific manufacturers that are known to have problems, such as Gold Mine by Spectravideo. I've never owned that one but I do have a copy of Cave In for the VIC-20 which I purchased new in box that's totally dead.
-
The prices on most of these have really gone through the roof. I guess I should've picked up more of them years ago.

What's up with Glacier Patrol, Telegames? 9 for Rarity ?
Psionic replied to Joel D. Park's topic in Atari 2600
It was available directly from Telegames for many years but now since that stock has long dried up, it's pretty hard to find. The chances of coming across it in the wild are pretty close to nil. A lot of the ones that do tend to surface nowadays are PAL versions. -
If you plan on using a Commodore 64 for any length of time, you might want to consider a rebuild or replacement of the stock power supply. Just some friendly advice.

There hasn't been a complete Color Bar Generator actually up for auction in quite a while. It'll be interesting to see what this one goes for.

No...I never saw the actual listing. Hence why I asked if it was legit. Maybe @mumbai knows.
