There's a longstanding rumor (mentioned in the old Digital Press Guide among other places) that some of the later square Telesys cartridges can be found with an Apollo logo on them. I have never personally seen this that I can remember, but it's not out of the question given that the shells probably came from the same supplier. Does anyone own one of these?

I noticed the seller has a few more of these if anyone is interested.

Is this different than the Micro-Labs that made the hi-res Grafyx Solution board for the TRS-80 line?
Yes...that company was based in Texas.

MicroLab was founded by Stan Goldberg...

The late Mike Hatlak was their head of development...

"Micro Fun" was just a brand name they used on entertainment software. They used "Micro Home" on home productivity programs, and so on...

I should add that more recently produced "Atari" joysticks (i.e. the ones that came with the Flashback 2) will have the Atari logo there on the plug. But overall these joysticks have a different construction and feel than the originals, and other telltale signs that set them apart (removable plastic joystick, Atari logo sculpted into the plastic case on top right corner, etc).
-
There were several different revisions of the PCB used, even inside the originals. The first thing I would look at externally would be the connector plug. Modern aftermarket reproductions will have a different, generic one that lacks the Atari logo. For example, look closely at this one.

You're not the first person to have this problem, nor will you be the last.

Unfortunately, Jim Rupp passed away back in 1990.

I had tried to track him down for years with no luck. Now at least I know why.

That's probably the only PlayStation and PS 2 arcade game collection that I do not currently have. Sigh.
I remember buying it brand new when it first came out. I still have it somewhere. Moon Patrol was also released with Spy Hunter on a 2-for-1 cartridge for the Game Boy Color right around that time.

It looks so freaking nice! This guy is selling a bunch of old gear so doesn't seem like a repro scenario, curious on everyones thoughts?
That's the original Telegames release, which, despite it's aftermarket appearance, is the most legit of a release that the game ever received. As with Alcazar and Boulder Dash et al, as mentioned above.

Of those, I know I have Artillery Duel (maybe Tax Avoiders). Thanks, I'll see what happens.
Did you ever get to the bottom of this?

Not sure if this has been brought up before but since the last forum update, I've noticed that there's a glitch displaying achievement graphics for post count when using the Dimension and Deflection themes. The joystick meter appears horizontally compressed in every place that it appears. This is the case no matter what device, and regardless of desktop or mobile.

I support this idea as well. 👍

Keep in mind that the Majesco era GG releases in North America were sold without them, so there were always more cartridges in circulation than cases. I remember buying a small batch of some extra ones from Sega way back when they had them but I'm not aware of an aftermarket source for them in quantity nowadays. eBay and the like are probably your best bet.

One of those games was Q-Bert, which, as far as I can remember was the same as the release version. The other one was Popeye, only the first level was playable, the rest was just static of the level screens. Up to now, I still have never seen any other evidence of the existence of this Popeye port by Parker Brothers.
They ported Popeye to every platform available so it's no surprise that a VIC-20 version was at least started. What happened to this prototype? Long gone, I assume? -

Stupid prices have always been a thing. I wish I could say it's getting worse but I'm not sure that's the case.
Regarding the comment about yellowing above, sometimes it doesn't show up very well in photos through no fault of the seller. I've had this problem many times with paper based items that were significantly more yellowed in person than they appeared in photos.

I missed it when it was first released but if anyone has some serious time to kill, the Computer History Museum did a very long (3+ hours) interview with programmer and eventual Furby designer David Hampton back in 2019, where he talks about his life and career.
A little over an hour into it, he discusses working on Raft Rider and Q*bert for the Atari 2600 at Western Technologies. He also briefly mentions involvement with an unreleased (arcade?) game project called Q*bert Circus.

Ok. How would you know if you had gotten a repro?
Not to say that they don't exist, but I have never seen a reproduction or bootleg Game Gear game come through my hands. I just pulled out a Japanese GG game from my collection and the clear case has a "10H" production code stamped in it just like you are describing. Box flaps on new games are usually difficult (if not impossible) to open without creasing them, which is usually a telltale sign of whether a game really is in fact new (since JP Game Gear games weren't shrink-wrapped).
I can't really give an opinion without seeing them, but nothing you are saying leads me to believe your games aren't genuine.

I can't say for certain, but I have many CIB titles by Parker Brothers and I do not own nor have I seen that particular insert before. The information on it was usually printed inside or on the back of the Atari manuals, so I can't see a reason for its inclusion with any of their video game cartridges.

By the label this disk appears to already have preserved status(verified flux dump) at a8sp:

An ATX image is available in the latest a8sp public release.
Good to know...so dumping it shouldn't be necessary then. If and when I'm able to verify that the media still works, I'll report back if there's anything unusual. I would expect that it's the original version with the tunnels on the top and bottom but I really can't remember and I'm curious now.

The market for Atari and Commodore computer cartridges was much smaller than the VCS and they were produced in much smaller runs, often at different facilities (sometimes in different countries). Several manufacturers had different cartridge variations, both in terms of the cases and labels that were used. Sierra had at least three different generations of labels - tan with brown text, foil in various colors, and white with blue text.
My copy of Crossfire for the Atari is the original release with the two-piece tan label on the ridged case, as shown above on the right. The one shown above on the left is just a second generation cartridge shell with a first generation label. Obviously they had leftovers and just wanted to use them up. They did anything they could to minimize costs...and rightly so. Like many others, Sierra got soaked when the market for cartridges imploded in 1983-84.

Great. Post up an .xex or a rom of it do we can play it too, please.
Over the Christmas break, I finally managed to locate this disk in storage at my parents house. I don't have access to a disk drive at the moment, but mine appears to be the original release without the catalog number printed on the label.

Later Telesys Cartridges in Apollo Shells?
in Atari 2600
Posted
Correct. In addition to the lack of a logo, the generic shells used by Telesys, Panda, and Wizard also lack the two screws that Apollo cartridges have under the label. I seem to have a vague recollection of someone posting a pic on the DP forums many years ago of a Telesys game inside an Apollo shell but I really don't know.
