  1. Currently using the Gold. The Standard is in storage, but was using it (both) regularly until I moved last fall.
  2. All I can say is that I have both the 9 Gold and the Standard and have used them both a TON with no issues. So unless you're like the opposite of Midas, I think you'll be fine.
  3. If you're into graphics hacks: Impossible Mission (whichever color variant you prefer. My favorite is the Blue) these hacks are all beatable Choplifter (HUD - not a major overhaul, but a few nice touches, IMO) Scrapyard Dog (graphics hack + infinite lives). Just tweaked the main character and colors on the first world... There's also the Scraps hack that gives a different flavor for the hero. Tank Command (color + graphics hack) again, nothing major, but more pleasing colors, IMO Kung Fun Master (graphics hack. Pacman Red teamed up with me on this one and we gave it a facelift) Donkey Kong Jr (sprite + color edit) just tried to make it look a little closer to the arcade Fatal Run (sports car hack) just my personal preference to have the car look more sporty Water Ski (If you like brighter colors)
  4. If you're referring to the FB9 Gold, just a heads up: the images folder has some extra unused images from the Genesis FB, so you don't have to worry if there are more files in that res folder than the Standard (some resource files have different names though). There's an Altered Beast game cover and a couple other resource images from the Sega FB that don't get used. My Gold is set up to read the emulator folder from the SD card and I deleted some of those extra images since they aren't needed.
  5. Awesome. Let me know if you need anything else. I have both the Gold and the Standard, but I'm currently using the Gold (Standard is in storage). You've probably already noticed that the theme resources are named slightly different between the two. I haven't made a list of the corresponding names, but I should, so that theme files could more easily be renamed from one to the other. Alternatively, maybe the firmware could be edited to look for the same file names so the two versions would be interchangeable. I'd think that hex editing the binaries inside the firmware would do the trick, but I haven't tried.
  6. It's not off center. Many games have black HMOVE lines on the left of the screen that are like boundaries where sprites will not cross. This let's sprites be used in another part of the screen without flicker. Some people think those black lines are ugly. Many Activision games hid those black lines. One way they did it was by using the playfield to cover them. With CRTs, it often wasn't noticeable that the vertical black bar was there. With emulators, it becomes more apparent and can look off center, but it's supposed to be that way.
  7. Latest CV core, yes. As well as service and 2600. Not sure what the "base" is.
  8. Finally had the chance to test with a real Colecovision controller, and I get the same result. I tested the controller with other games to make sure the number pad was working correctly and it was. There's just no response from Lord of the Dungeon once the title screen loads. Again, this is on the Phoenix with either a genuine Colecovision controller or a SNES NTT controller. I haven't been able to test on a real Colecovision console. If you need me to continue discussion in another place, so that I do not sidetrack this thread any further, just let me know (pm or whatever).
  9. Here is the startup.sh and emulator folder (minus the theme resource folders), which includes the retromenu, retroplayer, etc. from my 9 Gold. startup_and_retromenu.zip
  10. What would you need to be able to add these changes to custom firmware for the FB9/9Gold? Do you need an img of the current custom firmware for the 9, or just the most recent from AtGames? The current CFW will dump the rom & emulator folders to the SD card and read from there, but it seems to only load the rom folder and some theme files from the emulator folder. Just needs the extra updates you've done for the X. My beloved 9 Gold:
  11. You can't open crates, but sometimes there are things hidden underneath them. There's something you need in order to remove ivy. If you haven't found it yet, make sure you've really looked everywhere. If there's somewhere you haven't looked because you can't get there, find a way to get past it. You may need another item. It took me forever to find one of the items because I thought I had looked somewhere, but it turned out I hadn't looked from the correct angle at a place.
  12. I love my FB9 and 9Gold; love the overall way they look, the shape, the controller ports in the front (although the angles would look better if not upside-down). The rounded top of the console panel reminds me of a late 70s/early 80s car windshield which I really like. The one thing I didn't like was the big round orange buttons. I'd been thinking of 3D printing something different for them, but before doing that work, decided to paint them first. I really like the result: I just wasn't sure what to do about the power button. I thought about silver, but since this is my Gold model, I figured I'd try gold first. Not sure if I like it. Will probably try silver, but I'd like to hear other opinions. Maybe someone's perspective will sway me to keep it or change it. Maybe if I mask off a rounded rectangle shape and spray black over top so that the gold is in the shape of a switch on a woodgrain 2600/VCS (as if viewing switch from the top). EDIT: Photoshop to the decision making rescue... Meh... But maybe ideas to work from. EDIT2 Silver:
  13. I suppose I just don't understand what it is that you want. It's not just screenshots. You can download and play the rom by many means, emulation or real hardware and see for yourself how it looks.
  14. There is already a rom file uploaded. It's in the 1st post of the thread. Please just edit your post instead of posting in rapid succession. It's already the common rom format. You can play it in emulation or on real hardware with the Concerto cart or others.
  15. Mine arrived on Tues, but I've not been home to get it. I'm really looking forward to finally playing it next week, and I'll be sure to post something once I do.
  16. A jar can be useful on a long road trip. But if you use it, be sure to put the lid on tight in case it tips over in the car.
  17. The resistors that you have to replace are very tiny. It helps to have a magnifying glass. I did it twice, once for my Gold and once for my standard 9. The first time went really smooth, but the 2nd time was a real pain and I almost ruined it. Both were successful in the end, but I got a little careless the 2nd time around since the 1st one seemed so easy. Bottom line, if you do it, take your time and be careful. After the mod, the paddles work about the same as the X, I suppose. They seemed pretty smooth when I played them the other day, but there is enough delay that Kaboom isn't really playable once it gets fast. Games like Breakout, Warlords, Circus Atari, and others that don't require quite as much fast precision play just fine. The only way to play Kaboom is with real hardware, in my experience.
  18. I had thought about this one too. I was about to type this and saw you mentioned it already. I guess that's a 3rd confirmation it's a good name?
  19. That forum privacy policy notice is one of the best I've read. Actually tells you what ad sites will serve cookies? Actually tells you what social network sites will serve cookies? And actually tells you that you can disable / block them? ... Nice to see a site that is forthcoming instead of just saying "we will never track you and your information will never be shared, except with our partners (or in other words, everyone)"...
  20. That's some awesome news. Does that mean I should search for that old label design layout and get back to work on finishing it?
  21. Thanks for reminding me. It's been quite a while since I worked on that. The reason I never shared it is because I never finished the jungle stage. I'd like to get back to that at some point, as it's definitely a hack that needs finished, but my plate is very full right now. If things change, some time might open up for me soon. If not, I may not have time for much of anything until summer of 2022. edit: So that I don't derail too much from Popeye, if you or anyone would like to discuss any other works, feel free to hit me up in a pm.
  22. It's not about logical coherence, but artistic compromises. Sometimes you have to pick and choose where to compromise. Personally, I think Darryl already made a good artistic choice, but that's just my opinion. You're much better at picking out fine details in alignments than I am, but in some cases, it can be better to stray just a bit for the overall appearance. Anyway, we're all friends here and I have a lot of admiration for the work you do. Sometimes we'll just see it differently and that's ok.
  23. Black would just look hollow. At least the green fills the space with color like the arcade. I hadn't noticed the "O" and "l" being connected before, but now I can't unsee it.
