    Today's New York Times crossword, 8 Across's clue - "Developer of 1982's E.T., a video game so bad that hundreds of thousands of unsold cartridges were secretly buried in a New Mexico landfill".

      Quite often I solve crosswords with the clue "space creature" that resolves to ET. I think that is interesting giving it is almost 40 years ago and frankly the brand hasn't been kept alive as much as one would've expected it to be.

       

      As for the NY Times clue, they could as well have chosen "Developer of Atari games such as Yars' Revenge, Indiana Jones and E.T." without bringing the write-offs into question. Those who don't know who HSW is wouldn't be helped by that extra information anyway.
