  1. tl;dr: Play games from 21st century systems and post your times! For the fifth year in a row, it is time for the Modern gameplay tracker. Here are the links to previous seasons of the tracker: 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 So what is this? The basic idea is to post what games you played during each week, and for how long. You don't have to time it down to the minute (though some of us do), and estimates are acceptable. Then, at the end of the week, the statskeeper (that's me) totals everything up and we find out which games and platforms are seeing the most action. Each week, we have top 10 lists for consoles/computers and for individual games. Guidelines: 1. Be sure to list the system, the name of the game, and the length of time you play. Please note if the game has any alternate titles by which it's better known. If you list multiple games, please group them by platform. If you play on a backwards-compatible system, e.g. Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One or PS2 games on PS3, the game should be listed under the older platform's name. This also means that games predating 2000 played on a modern system should be posted in the classic games tracker. e.g. PS1 games played on PS2, GB/GBC games played on GBA, Wonderswan played on Wonderswan Color, Windows 95/98 games on a newer PC and so forth. 2. Each week runs Monday through Sunday (at midnight), though exceptions may occur around New Year. Try to post your times no later than night to Tuesday in your local timezone. I will generally wait until Tuesday evening Central European Time before compiling the stats. If you post after stats have been posted, your times will be counted for the next week. Feel free to indicate in your post which dates your times relate to. 3. Playing on actual hardware is preferred, although emulators are certainly allowed. In some cases (homebrews in development, rare arcade games) there's no alternative to using an emulator. 4. Our cutoff year is 2000. That is, eligible consoles and computers have to have been first released somewhere in the world after 2000. Basically any systems released around the PlayStation 2, XBox, GameCube, Game Boy Advance or after. Anything released before this time period (including the Sega Dreamcast) please post to the Classic Game Tracker The same goes for computers: we count Windows XP or newer, but not 98 or older; Mac OS X or newer, but not OS 9 or older; and so on. 5. Arcade games released on or after January 1, 2000 are permitted. 6. You don't just have to post a bare list of times -- comments, stories, images and helpful hints are always encouraged! If you're struggling with a level, got a new high score, or have some thoughts about what's great or what stinks about a particular game...well, that's the kind of stuff that makes this fun to read. How to make the statskeeper's life easier: - If you post a big list of games, please consider alphabetizing them first (after grouping them by platform). - Posting your times in minutes, rather than hours + minutes, makes things a little simpler. - Even if you don't know the exact time, it's better to post a specific number and say it's an estimate. If you say you posted a bunch of games for "between 20 minutes and an hour", I'll just average everything out to 40 minutes, but it's much better to have a sense of which games you played more and which ones you played less. - If you only post game titles without any indication of how long you played each game, I will assume 5 minutes regardless of how long you may actually have played them. Surely you can play a game for far less - down to a single minute - and specifically mention that, and I'll use that number instead. - If there's room for confusion or ambiguity, please address that in advance so I don't have to research it myself. Non-US releases, homebrews in progress, alternate titles, and expanded re-releases can get especially tricky. That about covers it. If you haven't participated before, or if you did and got busy with other things, consider taking part in 2022! You may find that it has some interesting side effects -- I've found that keeping a log dramatically changes how I think about my own gaming, and mostly for the better (though personally I very rarely play modern games). The first week runs from January 3 - January 9, then it is every week until New Year's Eve and around that. As the calendar looks like for 2022, we'll have an overlap until January 1, 2023 but more about that later.
  2. Hi everyone, its finally happened, I'm at the point where I'm ready to start unloading my collection. I wanted to give you guys the good folks at AA first crack at anything you might be interested in. This list contains something like 350 games, so unfortunately I'm going to start if off as a list with no pictures. These games are in various states of conditions, but assume the vast majority of them are working, have been played by me personally, and are usually in PAL UK version where applicable. Some of the older stuff like the master system might be Japanese or US copies, but generally is not an issue. If I own it, I can play it on a European console, as that's my near exclusive limit (outside a neo geo AES - not being sold!). Some are boxed, some are not. Some have instructions, some do not. They are all unsealed, there is no Wata level quality here. I'm a gamer, and these games were played. Please PM for interest in items, I can send prices for those games with images of boxes, manuals and state of disk/cart. Use this topic for general queries. I might be able to do pictures of specific collections of things, but nothing is in an easy to view format right now other than this list. Some things I can do prices now, but the lists are far too big. I'll try and update with time if I can. Hopefully obvious, but my native country is England, United Kingdom, prices will be in GBP £££ but will happily convert to your local currency, and give you potential postage to your country - just let me know where you live! Big orders I will try to do free postage, but all orders will be tracked shipping. If you live in Manchester/Liverpool, Cheshire, Birmingham area, Gloucestershire or Wiltshire we can discuss potential dropping off/meet instead, but note I live in Cheshire. About 6 months ago I started this topic: This was me processing letting go of significant number of games. Soon after I put my house on the market, and bought my next one up. In the process this took a backseat - and initially I had boxed about 100 games I was "ready" in mind to sell. This has now increased to something like 350, including PC games (hence why I'm going to start with lists, then will do pictures as requested). A few other things have happened, the work on the house has cost us considerably more than we planned, and the profit from the first house has already emptied to 0. We also had our car break down on moving day, and this caused issues with our buyers which cost us more money. The car has now fully broken down and we have had to borrow money to buy a 'new' (and by new, I mean 15 year old!) car. This is a bit of a boo-hoo story I know, but it leads to me realising that I have boxes full of cash I just need to get rid of, and I might be able to pay off the debt at least. I would also like to make sure I can manufacture some more Odyssey 1 multicards which I was planning on doing this month, but due to car - needs potentially delaying. Anyway... onto the list. I think there will be another cull at some point, but this is "second wave" culling and includes games like Zelda that I thought I would never get rid of. I've decided to get rid of my entire collection of N64 games, but don't get excited most are unboxed and all are relatively common-uncommon. PC: I need to form a list of PC games but I have already divided some up into prices, these are mostly "big box" games, though a mix of CD and floppy disk. If anyone is interested I'll try and develop a list asap. DOUBLES: These are just doubles I have for sale, I won't be selling any other games for these systems (1st, 2nd and selected 3rd gen consoles) Magnavox Odyssey: Volleyball boxed and complete. I'll take £90 for it as someone on ebay is going for that much. Atari 2600: Would probably sell both these games for a £5 to get rid of it. Both loose. Pac Man (double) Pitfall (double, I don't think this works on all 2600 machines... rubbish label before you ask) Voltmace Database (This is a 1292 alternative system, there is an adapter to use it in more common formats like the acetronic system, but I'm not selling it!): Various games, many boxed with instructions £10 each, 2 loose with instructions, £5 each. Collections being sold off: These are 1st and 2nd wave removals from my collections, other than the N64 which I'm selling fully there may be other games on these systems I'm selling in the future. Stuff like Neo Geo, Atari, Amiga and Philips alongside 32x, Mega CD, 3DO and TG16 etc are currently intending to be kept. NES: Adventures of Bayou Billy, The Bubble Bobble Donkey Kong Double Dragon III - The Sacred Stones Dr. Mario Duck Hunt Excitebike Golf Iron Sword: Wizards and Warriors 2 Jack Nicklaus 18 holes Kickle Cubicle Lemmings Mission: Impossible Pac-Man Super Off Road (Ivan Ironman Stewarts) Super Mario Bros. - Duck Hunt Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles Zelda II - The Adventure of Link Sega Master System: Note some of these are US or Japanese carts, but work on PAL machines too. 3. I recently acquired a big lot of "new old stock" CompUSA mousepads in assorted colors and thought there might be some interest here. Whether you're a retro PC or retro Mac fan, CompUSA was a go-to store for a lot of us back in the 90s and early 2000s. All colors pictured are available and would be happy to supplement this stock picture for a photo or two of the exact mousepad you would receive. Asking $15 *including shipping* per mousepad OBO. Shoot me a PM and we'll go from there. Cheers.

  6. Hello there :) Would a DB9 to usb cable make it possible to use the atari joystick to play emulators on pc? Will it register input? USB 2.0 to RS232 DB9 Link: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0758BWVXF/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_EJ5HWJR2DVX7W4J0S9BX?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_dls_failed I asked the support teams of this cable from Amazon. They told me they don't know but I should try comparing/matching the pin assignment. Unfortunately I have no clue. Does anyone have experience or have the tools to try? Greetings from Poland ??

  8. ----------- EDIT: Thanks for all the sales so far, guys. I'm hoping to move a few more things in larger lots, so for the next while I'm running sale: Spend at least $100 (any combination of games, without shipping) and get 30% off. Any amount over between $100 and $200 gets 40% off. Any amount over $200 gets 50% off!!! e.g. you pick out $210 worth of games. You'll get $30 off for the first $100, $40 for the next $100, and $5 for the final $10, and have to only pay $135! Again, shipping costs are always extra of course. ----------- After a year long hiatus, I'm back to selling off much of my boxed 8-bit collection (as well as some Atari ST, Amiga, and classic PC games). At least the pandemic gave me some time to organize. Instead of listing everything here, I put together a Google Sites page with lots of pictures and suggested prices. https://sites.google.com/view/game-sale-list/home A few things: 1) Prices are in US dollars. They tend to be on the higher side for individual titles, but that's because I take into account the hassle of shipping out individual games. I'm always open to offers, but especially willing to move on price for multiple titles. 2) Shipping is extra. I'm in Canada, so shipping within Canada is preferred and likely cheaper too. Shipping to the US is usually not too bad, but shipping to Europe is expensive - be warned. 3) Payment by Paypal Gift/Friends&Family only please (or, if you're in Canada, e-transfer works too) 4) I will update the site as titles sell. I'll try to answer quickly to questions, but life is busy and it may be a day or so before I can reply. Hopefully less, but just so you know. Thanks for looking. Hoping to find some good new homes for these titles.
  9. Hello, does anybody have an Adapter to connect an Atari Jaguar Joypad with a PC or know where i can buy it? Best regards Patrik
  10. Hello Atari fans! I'm a poor indie game developer who is trying to complete an Amazing Atari 2600 PC style game and I'd really need some help from the community about the console limitations to keep my upcoming title as close to an original Atari 2600 game as possible! The game is called DEADFALL and here I've sent you a screenshoot of the game and the relative box art mockup! Thank you so much for your time!

  12. Dear All, 3.5" floppy drives that connect via USB to a modern PC are very common and I have some. However, it is impossible to find a 5"1/4 USB floppy drive. I guess there must be a good reason, which I don't know. However, I would really like to find one to take "raw" images of floppy disks, right there, on my Windows 10 computer. I haven't had a PC with these floppy drives for a long time (or I have old PCs in the basement somewhere and loose 3.5" & 5"1/4 drives). So, if anyone has an idea, a suggestion, how to find this kind of 5"1/4 floppy drive in USB for modern PC. Thanks in advance.
  13. ?I've never finished it but I played the original SHADOWMAN first on the N64 followed by the DREAMCAST then years later the PC version (from STEAM or GOG I cannot recall) of course, each version had some minor improved visuals but here I am again this time playing the recently released REMASTERED version on PC. It runs great and though still incredibly dated it's the best it's ever looked. I like the atmosphere and it's somewhat a guilty pleasure game. Here's a couple grabs I took just now. ANY FANS? ?
  14. A bargain bin USB SNES style controller for Mac and PC! Is it any good though?
  15. This software company that my company uses just posted a really cool article on their favourite 80's & 90's retro games, and even included how to play them on PC to this day which I thought was dope. Anyone else find a couple of their favourites on this list: https://bugherd.com/blog/how-to-play-classic-pc-games/? Got a huge nostalgia hit when I saw Starcraft lol ? Might have to play it tonight ...

  19. tl;dr: Play games from 21st century systems and post your times! For the second season in a row, it is time for the Modern gameplay tracker. The following text is stolen from Thegoldenband with additions by Iwantgames:) who used to run this tracker at the beginning. Here are the links to previous seasons of the tracker: 2018 So what is this? 6. You don't just have to post a bare list of times -- comments, stories, gripes, and helpful hints are always encouraged! - If there's room for confusion or ambiguity, please address that in advance so I don't have to research it myself. Non-US releases, homebrews in progress, alternate titles, and expanded re-releases can get especially tricky. That about covers it. If you haven't participated before, or if you did and got busy with other things, consider taking part in 2019! You may find that it has some interesting side effects -- I've found that keeping a log dramatically changes how I think about my own gaming, and mostly for the better.
  20. So my dad got two old Dell computers and he's giving me one for free. I've been looking for a PC to replace my terrible Acer Aspire V5 laptop for quite some time, and price has been one of the reasons why I pretty much gave up on getting a new computer. I know this isn't going to be the best computer ever, but since I plan to use it for video (YouTube, Plex and Media Player Classic) and browsing primarily, I think this is a great option. I'm willing to spend a few bucks on RAM, an SSD, a better processor and a graphics card, so I was wondering if anyone knows what's the best way to upgrade this computer in particular (what's supported, what's overkill or a waste of money and so on.) I already have a 240GB SSD with Windows 10 so I guess those are two things where I can save a few bucks. I'm pretty much new to upgrading computers, but this is something I've always wanted to do. Regarding all the other parts, I did some research to see how much money I need and this is what I found. RAM: it supports up to 8GB max. Processor: it supports Core 2 Quad 2 Q6600, again, not terribly expensive. Graphics Card: there are several options and I have no idea which offers the best bang for your buck. I think this PC supports the GeForce 210 1GB and although it's probably the most expensive part of the whole set up, maybe it'll be worth getting a good card. I remember reading that some people installed a 2GB graphics card in there, so maybe that's a better upgrade? Again, I have no idea about this component in particular. Some other random questions I have: should I get a wireless card in case I ever decide to move the computer far from my router? Should I go with a 23-inch monitor or 32- inch TV? Just curious since the price for those where I live is pretty much the same. I know monitors have better refresh rates, but maybe a big TV would be better for watching sports, video game tournaments, movies, series and even actual TV. So here are the specs in case anyone's interested https://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/opti_745techspecs.pdf Thanks in advance!
  21. Right now I am working on 4 of these systems, HP Elite Tab 900 G1s, 1 has a working battery, I am working on either buying 3 new batteries or rejuvenating the 3 dead batteries on the others. A picture shows all I guess. Running Windows 8.1 and will be running a set up version of LaunchBox Premium. Russ
  22. Just wanted to share this "new" platformer that's back on Kickstarter: It did not meet it's goal two years ago but the developer kept plugging away. I have no stake in this other than I'm a backer (and was 2 years ago) and would love to see this get a release. Right now its targeted for PC & Mac but their stretch goals are for Switch, PS4 & Xbox One releases, with the Switch being their first stretch tier. If you like these type of platformers give it a look and keep an eye out for the demo.
  23. I have a few older PC games up for grabs. Just cover shipping. PayPal only, ask for a shipping estimate if interested and be sure to include your zip code. I cannot send games via media mail, sorry. 3 1/4 floppy version of 688 Attack Sub (untested) CD copy of Titanic Adventure Out of Time with strategy guide CD copy of Zork Nemesis with strategy guide
  24. Selling off some games I don't play anymore and are taking up space. I'd rather they go to a new home and to someone who will play/use them instead of sit around and collect dust. Buyer pays shipping (will do international) and I take payment via PayPal. Prefer it if the payment is sent as a payment - I'll pay the fees. I'm willing to take offers too, though I already have the prices dropped low so don't stretch it too far! I'll test every game that I can test before payment and shipping to verify that it works - if anything is wrong then I'll let you know immediately. Ask for pictures and ye shall recieve, it's time consuming to photograph every game individually before they're even close to sold but I'll try to get them ASAP upon request. Strikethrough means pending sale but not yet sold. PS2: Drummania (JP import) - $2 Lethal Skies (no manual) - $2 Final Fantasy X Greatest Hits - $2 Ys III (JP import) - $20 JoJo Ougon no Kaze (JP import) - $10 PC jewel case: $1 each. 25. I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this, but ! Here goes ! I recently found a good emulator for the NEC PC6001. I need it to complete a video for my youtube channel but I'm having difficulties getting it to run a .cas image for pac-man that I found on Archives.org. I have't been able to find an alternate image of this game anywhere online. I do know it exists because of this. http://p6ers.net/hashi/emupacman.html I've tried to make it work in Mess & with PC6001VW Emulator to no avail. Anyone know where I can get an alternate rom image to work with this emulator. Because so far I'm turning up nothing in my searches. Attached are the clips I currently have.
