  1. Someone in the TRS-80 MC-10 camp found a bunch of new games for that computer, and as it turns out the developer Inufuto has made available versions for a long range of mainly Japanese home computers, but also some others: MSX, NEC PC-6001, PC-8001, PC-8801, PC-8001mkII, PC-8001mkIISR, Sharp MZ-80B, MZ-2200, MZ-1500, Sharp X1, Toshiba Pasopia 7, Fujitsu FM-7, Hitachi MB-6890, MB-6885 Jr, National/Panasonic JR-100, JR-200, Bandai RX-78, Sony SMC-777, Casio PV-1000, PV-2000, Casio FP-1100, Mitsubishi MULTI8, Sega SC-3000, Sega Master System, Sord M5, ZX Spectrum, Apple II, C64 Japan, VIC-1001, TRS-80 MC-10, TRS-80 CoCo Many of these models may be almost unheard of in the west, but at least some like MSX, Apple II, C64 (though Japanese version), VIC-20 (VIC-1001), the MC-10 and CoCo should be accessible natively. Aerial: http://inufuto.web.fc2.com/8bit/aerial/ Battlot: http://inufuto.web.fc2.com/8bit/battlot/ Bootskell: http://inufuto.web.fc2.com/8bit/bootskell/ Cavit: http://inufuto.web.fc2.com/8bit/cavit/ Impetus: http://inufuto.web.fc2.com/8bit/impetus/ Mazy: http://inufuto.web.fc2.com/8bit/mazy/ Neuras: http://inufuto.web.fc2.com/8bit/neuras/ Ruptus: http://inufuto.web.fc2.com/8bit/ruptus/ He may have made additional games, but those were the ones I found out. Given the wide range of formats, most likely those are made with a cross compiler, perhaps CROSS-LIB or something similar?
  2. Hi everyone c: I did this conversion of "Despacito" for MSX/Colecovision/Intellivision tonight, and I wanted to show it to all of you. I add the .bas file to compile on Intybasic and listen on your Intellivision. Enjoy. I will post here more of my works later. Check more of them on http://adan.eu.pn/ Despacito.bas
  3. I'm running into an odd problem that I hope someone else has seen before - I have a Sony HB-F1XDmk2 MSX2 that I'm trying to connect via RGB cable to an Extron DSC301 HD (via the 15pin D-sub input). I've done a bit of searching and believe I have the pinouts correct on both the MSX* and Extron ends. I've tested and re-tested continuity through the lines. All that said, I just can't seem to get a full picture going - I'm getting two of the three RGB colors and only the text mode (I think); the MSX boot logo screen doesn't appear, game screens don't appear. The picture is nice and crisp, there's no rolling/scrolling that I've seen mentioned from other forum posts. Also, the unit's A/V outputs work normally. The odd thing on the 2 out of 3 colors - I can swap the color lines and I'll get the blend of whatever 2 colors I hook up on the first two lines for the text, so it seems the R,G, and B are outputting from the MSX but for some reason the extron is not using/seeing/processing all three colors. I've used this d-sub input on the extron with my Apple IIgs and color/sync works. *For the 8pin DIN, I'm using the Type A pin out so 6,7,8 pins are RGB and 4,5 are the two sync lines. I also have pin 1 ground hooked up. I'm stumped - is it that I need to use a different combo of pin 3, 4, or 5 for Horizontal/Vertical Sync or is the Extron just not compatible with the MSX output? I know on paper the extron doesn't support 15kHz, but it does and works beautifully with my Apple IIgs. Most of the posts I find on this are talking about SCART connectors/wiring but I really want to make the 8 pin din to 15 pin D-Sub work if possible. Any help appreciated!
  4. Hello to all, I've seen some MSX and SG-1000 conversions for the ColecoVision. I was just wondering if there would be any converters in ROM format and sold for the ColecoVision. These three consoles are Z80 processors themselves. Other converters might be the Sord M5, the Casio PV-2000, or the Memotech MTX512.
  5. As many are aware, Sega Master System fans (centralized at SMS Power's forum) have long been converting Game Gear games to be compatible on the SMS using the Master Everdrive, for instance. Unrelated (you'd think), but during the 90's, Taiwanese and Korean publishers converted some MSX (originally SG-1000) games like Rally-X, Road Fighter, etc., to Master System. Why? Who knows! Well, someone discovered or obtained the software tools they used to do this. These tools have now been applied to additional MSX games with varying results. You'll have to follow the action at SMS-power, because this is all in its infancy at the moment, but cool nonetheless http://www.smspower.org/forums/16445-MSXToSMSHacks
  6. Not sure if anyone here has the knowledge to have a discussion on a technical level concerning the MSX standard. But I have a few questions concerning the various slot signals. 1) I see very few references to the SW1 & SW2 signals, other than they should be connected together on the cartridge pcb. However, no mention of where they go, or what they do. I'm assuming that there is some bit in some register set or reset. But I can't find any reference to it. Anyone have any idea? 2) As far as CS1, CS2, and CS12, I am assuming that these three select lines function independent of individual slots? I.e., they should be active on all slots at the same time, and not gated to specific slots? 3) SLTSL seems fairly easy to generate. My understanding is that the register A8h provides the 2-bit slot number for pages 0-3 of the 64k of memory. So I should be able to use a 1-to-4 decode on A15 & A14 to create my page select lines, and then just gate them properly with the A8h register to have the possible outcomes. (Been working on a truth table, but it going to be fairly extensive. This could probably be implemented with a fairly fast EEPROM for the logic). I understand how the decode works I think. I just want to verify I am not missing anything here. Any traps for noobs? If you're wanting more information as to the scope of what I'm doing, I am designing an expansion adapter for my MSX1 to open up Slots 2 & 3, possibly decoding one to the 4 secondary slots.
  7. Hi all I'm thinking about releasing the OST of Sydney Hunter and the Caverns of Death (when the game is released for Colecovision), but I want to make a very high end release even if is only digital. My first idea was a Caverns Of Death OST with the music of every port of the game. But I think "Why not making a ENORMOUS RELEASE with the music of Sacred Tribe too and with music of at least 6 systems, an acoustic track and a bonus ROM with serial for the first 25 orders?". Basically like 60 tracks (or more) So, my idea is the next one: Sydney Hunter Definitive OST! - Sydney Hunter and the Shrine Of Perils music of Intellivision - Sydney Hunter and the Sacred Tribe OST music of Intellivision, MSX, NES. - Sydney Hunter and the Caverns of Death OST music of Colecovision, Sega Master System FM Sound, Gameboy. - A special acoustic song of Sydney Hunter and Sacred Tribe. - First 25 orders gets a ROM with the OST of both games for Intellivision. (Yes, even the Caverns Of Death music!) - Digital release, high quality FLAC files without compression. - Physical release? If the people wants, sure! Any ideas? Anybody is interested? Thanks for reading c:
  8. Old version MT-32, working & complete (with extra power adapter - lower profile & reduced heat generation.) Quite a few vintage games take advantage of bugs in the old version OS and don't sound correct on later models. Games designed specifically for the MT-32 are available for the Atari ST, Amiga, PC, MSX, NEC PC 98x1, & Sharp X68000 computers. Unit is complete with original power adapter, smaller profile power adapter, & MIDI cable. Asking $175 + shipping & PP fees. SOLD Based on sold listings at the bay (a little below over all average.)
  9. I recently got an SX-1 MSX2+ FPGA with an SD card slot, but it also has a cart port and I'd like to know a couple good inexpensive (about $20-$40 loose) cart test games that can test the system in the cart slot. A two button game, where the two buttons do something obvious, with full movement and the option to use the keyboard controls would be good. I've looked around, but can't find a list of two button games to compare. Most of the ones I know of have ridiculous prices ($70+, loose) or, like Ninja Princess, I can't even find for sale. Something like Commando, Defender, 2-button missile command, etc. A reasonably priced ($50-$60) homebrew cart with these features would also be okay, although some out-of-print homebrews can get quite ridiculous in price as well. There is a port of Tutankhamen from the ColecoVision on cart, but it would be nice to have something unique and not $40 for CV Tutankhamen. Thanks.

  17. From the album: Computer Food Coloring

These are the 16 MSX/ColecoVision colors rendered in McCormick food coloring.
  18. This is the second installment in computer food coloring. This time, it's the MSX palette. It's also used on the ColecoVision, and the TI 99/4A. Therefore, it could be called the TI palette. It consists of 15 colors and a transparent color. Color 0 is Transparent. Black: 8 parts Black Medium Green: 9 parts Green Light Green: 5 parts Green Dark Blue: 7 parts Blue, 5 parts Neon Blue, 5 parts Neon Purple Light Blue: 2 parts Neon Blue, 2 parts Neon Purple Dark Red: 30 parts Red, 1 part Blue, 1 part Green Cyan: 3 parts Neon Blue Medium Red: 13 parts Red Light Red: 5 parts Red Dark Yellow: 8 parts Yellow, 3 parts Red, 2 parts Green Light Yellow: 3 parts Yellow Dark Green: 24 parts Green, 1 part Blue Magenta: 7 parts Neon Purple, 2 parts Green Gray: 2 parts Black White: None The transparent color was achieved by using plain water. The medium used was Sargent Art Art-Time white tempera paint, which is opaque. And here's how it turned out: That certainly looks cool! It's pretty accurate.
  19. Info from one of the designers of the Texas Instruments video chip that was famously used in the TI-99. ColecoVision, SEGA SG-1000, MSX, and many other game consoles and computers: "We were about the cancel the whole 9918 program when Coleco came in with Colecovision and the TI Home Computer took off while at the same time the MSX computer in Japan (the “MS” standing for Microsoft which had a short lived joint venture in Japan) started selling big time using the 9918." "there is a color burst at ~3.58MHz. The 9918’s input clock was ~10.74MHz or exactly 3 times the color burst reference." http://msx.hansotten.com/technical-info/tms9918/
  20. I decided to offer many of my MSX games as 'bundles'. These games were bought during my summer trip to Japan. They are for MSX machines. Down the road, I will be offering MSX machines as reasonable prices as well. I picked these games up as they tend to require to least amount of Japanese language skills necessary to enjoy them. 23. Has anyone bought bought a Competition Pro Retro joystick from ICOMP ? The joystick seems advertised as msx compatible http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/Competition_Pro_Retro but it lacks the second button (button B). It has two couples of buttons (one upper and one lower on the basis) and a switch (4 buttons + 1 switch total). Sadly, all buttons insist on the same A line and the switch can only activate or deactivate the upper couple of buttons. Is there someone who modified it to support the msx second button?
  24. Is there some online shop selling new joysticks for msx ? I cannot find any joystick producer currently active on msx and retro machines. What are the options to get a new joystick? The sole stuff I see is some cinese megadrive gamepad, but it should be modded to support the second button and I would avoid DIY
