  3. Hi, I have been resurrecting my older TI equipment and I am down to one non-QI motherboard left to repair and two QI console power supplies that are not working. I would like to repair them but I haven't found any schematics to make the job easier. I am capable of tracing these out and making a schematic but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel if their is already a schematic floating around. I have found the non-QI power supply schematics in my places. Does anyone know of a schematic for the QI console power supply? BTW: The motherboard that needs repair is from the first TI I bought back early 83(??? hard to remember but the chip date codes match this). My wife-to-be was vacuuming and hit a connecting wire, the video out I believe. The cord was sucked up and stripped and the console smoked (the pcb trace for sound to the DIN connector vaporized and a number of other failures). I saved my money and bought another console and put that console aside since then, about 39 years. So their is sentimental value in getting this console running again ? Thanks for taking the time to read this! Any help is appreciated. Mark

  8. I recently purchased a Retroflag GPi Case (http://retroflag.com/GPi-CASE.html). It's a GameBoy-like case for the Raspberry Pi Zero, with a 2.8 inch IPS screen. The Pi is placed in a cart that you connect to the case similarly to a console's cart. With RetroPie on the Pi you can create a portable retro-gaming machine. The GPi is good product in general, the buttons and the D-pad are responsive and the screen looks fine, no tearing or lags. I have installed/configured with RetroPie all these systems (that runs fine on the Pi 0): Atari 2600, 7800, Genesis/Megadrive, Master System, NES, PC Engine, Vectrex, SG 1000, Game & Watch, Game Gear, Game Boy, Lynx, Famicom Disk System, Coleco, Intellivision, lr-MAME 2000, VideoPac/Odyssey 2, ZX Spectrum, MSX/MSX2, C64 and of course the TI99/4A! The GPi Case has a D-Pad and 8 buttons: A, B, X, Y, Start, Select and RB, LB on the back of the case. These are enough for all the consoles. With Colecovision, Intellivision, Spectrum and C64 it's possible to have virtual keyboards/keypad overlays so you can start all the games without having to hook up a Bluetooth keyboard. Really comfortable! Guess what? Only the TI 99 emulator needs a keyboard to start the games! ? The only emulator that can run on the Pi Zero is TI-99/Sim created by Marc Rousseau (https://www.mrousseau.org/programs/ti99sim/). It's a nice emulator, with good compatibility and speech support. It's not at MAME's level, but it's enough to play most games in this TI99 handheld. Unfortunately, the joystick config is hardcode and doesn't fit well with RetroPie/EmulationStation ecosystem. You need a keyboard to pass from TI99 initial screen to the game and play with the joypad. Moreover, the GPi Case is configured by default with the D-pad in Hat mode and the emulator is only using Axes mode. It's possible to change mode pressing Star+Up for 5 second, but then you need to reconfigure EmulationStation for using the menu. Looking at TI-99/Sim I've seen a new 0.16.0 version (released after last RetroPie distribution) and in the changelog there is a comforting note: "Changes to better support RetroPie setup & joystick usage", but no additional infos in the docs. I've contacted Marc asking for additional information. He explained that has ported the code to SDL2.0 and managed to get the keyboard emulation working properly. Basically, the joypad buttons can also simulate the pression of keys 1 to 9, so allowing to pass from title/option screen to the game. That sounds good, so I've compiled and tested this new version. It's now possible to move to the game screen, hovewer when testing Parsec I realized that it does not allows to change the speed for the refuel section. All the buttons acts as Fire button! ? Moreover, I cannot play Donkey Kong (it asks for Enter key...) and other Atarisoft games. The same for Alpiner, Big Foot, etc. Finally, to select a new game it's necessary to exit from the emulator pressing ESC on keyboard. I need also to press FCTN-REDO at game over to play again... Since I do not want to use a keyboard nor uninstall the emulator, I decided to have a look at the source code to "patch" it. I've added the Hat support and now it's possible to play most of the games without a keyboard. ? Most of the joypads have at least 8 buttons, so a minimal set of needed keys/combination of keys needs to be identified to run confortably most of the games. The ideal number of keys to have would be: 0 to 9, Enter, Space, +, FCTN+QUIT, FCTN+REDO, FCTN+BACK, FCTN+AID. Total is 17, plus the "Fire" button and "ESC" to exit from the emulator, for a total of 19 keys. This number must be reduced, since normally there are less button available. For example, the Xbox One controller has 10 buttons + 2 triggers, the 8bitdo SF30 has 12 buttons + 2 triggers. For my Retroflag's GPi Case 8 buttons layout, the selected keys are: Fire, 1, 2, 3, ESC, FCTN+QUIT, FCTN+REDO and Enter. With a joypad with 2 additional buttons it's possible to have also "+" and FCTN+REDO. Finally, with a 12 buttons joypad , it's possible to have also Space and 0. Summer is approaching and I know that there are guys here that needs to play some Parsec and MunchMan under beach umbrella, so in attachment the "patched" executable and the .cpp source if someone want to improve/made its customisation. Also a couple of images and videos (not edited, just raw recording, sorry for the poor production...). If you need .ctg games tested and ready to run, just check at the end of the article on the TI99 emulation with Raspberry on TI99IUC site (http://www.ti99iuc.it/web/index.php?pageid=homepage&artid=203#.XuZAoG5uKUk). Try this TI99 handheld, it's really fun! ? DKong.mp4 Parsec.mp4 Menu.mp4 ti99sim-0.16.0-Joypad_Patch.zip
  9. Hello Everyone, I am rejoining the TI world after being away for many years. I am in the middle of restoring a Geneve system and two TI systems. First I would like to thank shift838 and Bob Carmany for their service to the community and their help to me personally. I have ordered EPROMs from Bob to update various PEB cards and the Geneve boot. I currently have the Geneve (1.0 boot, v7.30 MDOS) running with an HFDC and Myarc RS232. I have resurrected three floppy drives (2-DSDD, and a 1.44). I purchased a Gotek floppy emulator and loaded the FlashFloppy software. I can read .DSK files (Ex: MDOS 7.30a.DSK) but I cannot write to the DSK file. Ex: I try and write to the MDOS 7.30a.DSK to put the "LOAD/SYS" file and I get a device error. I will have many questions as I get the systems up and running and get back into the hardware arena and programming (I still need to find my copy of GenProg and hope it is still on readable floppies :-) ). My first questions are: Does MDOS still require LOAD/SYS. The 7.30 disks don't have this but it wouldn't boot without it. Should I be able to write to the Gotek with a DSK file as the disk? (DSDD MDOS) or do I need to use the hfe file format to write? It doesn't appear that the Gotek can be set as a HD 3.5 drive in the HFDC and read a DSDD disk. It appears to walk two tracks at once when stepping as you expect for a 40 track floppy. Is there away to use a per DSK file cfg to specify the geometry? Thanks for any assistance you can offer! Mark

  12. I'm putting together a set of .HD files for the Geneve with lots & lots of tested software & docs. One thing I'm doing in those set is TI99 GAMES, about 60+ all ready to go & tested. Here's a partial list of the cartridge games (no order) all working on the Geneve: 4Aflyer, ambulance, frogger, pacman, pole position, driving demon, protector II, adventure (& all disk games), all Infocom (except LGOP), anteater, blasto, burgertime, car-wars, card sharp, chisom trail, donkey kong, henpecked, jungle hunt, micro surgeon, moon mine, munchman 2, othello, parsec, popeye, princess & frog, return to pirate isle, roto raider, schnozola, the attack, ti invaders, tunnels of doom (& disks), tombstone city, topper, video chess, hunt the wumpus, buck rogers, centipede, congo bongo, dig dug, hopper, ms pacman, qbert, milton bradly 4 game+demo cart & the Tomy Tutor games. WHAT I haven't got to work but I have found are: munch mobile, defender, video games 1, star trek & moon patrol. for one reason or another they all blow up on the Geneve (and work on the TI99 COD). And the notable cart games that I haven't that haven't found a Geneve version are: munchman, alpiner, bigfoot, fathom, hen house, hustle, MASH, miner 2049er, moon sweeper, picnic paranoia, rabbit trail, robotron, treasure isle & tutankhan. NOTE: I found that MYGPL can run a lot of the PC99 .GRM files. So if you have the PC99 .grm cart versions they might work. SO if you know how to get the not-working list to work or have one of the games on the not-found list that be great. just add it to this post. I run all the working games using MYGPL or in XB in MYGPL from a batch file. With the action games I usually have to do a F4 in MYGPL to slow to 1 or the games are too fast. Sure would be nice to have a command line switch in MYGPL to do the F4=1 in the batch so would not have to start the batch, shft+shft+ctrl to the MYGPL menu, do a F4=1, then back to the game. Have the same problem with EXEC. it runs the games way too & but it has no way to slow them therefore, not useful for TI99 games.
  13. Hello! During the preservation phase, I stumbled upon this beautiful version of the famous arcade game, Nibbler. It has been published on an Italian Magazine in 1985 and it is written purely for the Mini Memory cartridge and consists of two parts, the first loaded using option 2 EasyBug and the second loaded by TI-BASIC but through the instruction CALL LINK ("LOAD"). It would be really nice to save everything in a digital format more usable than the .WAVs files. I tried to load them with the MAME/MESS emulator and they work fine. In my opinion it's a beautiful version and deserves to be played by everyone in an easy way. I never thought that with the Mini Memory cartridge you could get such a complete game loaded from a cassette tape. I am really surprised. is there in the community someone that would have the ability to convert it to a better format, maybe .BIN or at least, a disk format? Could be nice! There are the link to the game page and the .ZIP file containing the material that I was be able to put together. 24. Created a little package for MAME/MESS that enables MyArcXBII and P-Card in one pre-made package. Just add latest MAME/MESS and go. It's on my project page that accesses my https://ti99resources.wordpress.com/:
  25. Our beloved TI99 will be 40 years old within few months, so we need to prepare the celebration. Since the game Astrosmash for the Intellivision will also be celebrating its anniversary and we do not have if for the TI, I decided to create this Super Astrosmash version! ? Super Astrosmash has the same game mechanics, score system, number of levels, type of enemies of the original version, however I've introduced some changes to better adapt to the improved TI99 resolution, added some speech, etc. The game is not a direct porting, but rather my own interpretation of a possible TI99 conversion. The initial release will be only in SSS module format. In the era of digital downloads, let's return back to the roots! With the precious help of Ciro (aka ti99iuc from the TI99 Italian User Club) we are now working to prepare a small batch of SSS, complete with labels and manual. The module will have two versions of the game: the Super Astrosmash and the Legacy version. It runs on the console + 32K memory expansion, supports joystick and keyboard. The Speech is optional. If you are interested in the SSS, please contact the TI99 Italian User Club using the website (http://www.ti99iuc.it/web/index.php?pagina=contacts) by the end of September, so it will be possible to determine the final cost and prepare the shipping for Christmas. In attachment a video of the gameplay from the beginning of the game up to level 2 and a preview of the manual/cover design. We will post additional material/info in the next days, so stay tuned.
