tkarner
I got my brother an FB2 for christmas. It was the last one I could find. In fact it was an open box, probably a return. It's right joystick port seems bad so it'll only play single players games. The right joystick will intermittently stop going left or up. He tested the other joystick in that port and same problem so it's definately the port and not the stick. Is this a common problem? Easy to fix if he looks inside??? At first he asked me where I bought it so he could attempt an exchange. I told him no more are available so he said he'd try to contact Atari for a warranty replacement. I filled him in about Atari now being a French company on the verge of being shut down by regulators so he probably wouldn't have much luck with that. That leaves a DIY fix. Retro Rogue
No, problems with the joystick port are not common. Sounds like you took a chance getting an already opened box and got bit. At first he asked me where I bought it so he could attempt an exchange. I told him no more are available so he said he'd try to contact Atari for a warranty replacement. I filled him in about Atari now being a French company on the verge of being shut down by regulators so he probably wouldn't have much luck with that. At which point you were incorrect to tell him on a number of issues. 1) The warranty is still good. 2) Atari is not a French company, its an American company incorporated seperately from Infogrames. 3) Being shut down by regulators? Way out there on that one. I think you're confisuing its previously threatened delisting from the NASDAQ stock market due to its then stock price. They've since done a reverse split of their stock, which raised the stock value up enough that they're no longer under threat of being delisted. Regardless, none of that had anything to do with being "shut down". Atari is not closing down any time soon. That leaves a DIY fix. Again, warranty is the first option. There's a reason there's a warranty sticker on the bottom. Edited January 30, 2007 by wgungfu
