King_Salamon
I am leaning towards getting a PS3 in the future and would like to have some sales pitches to give the wife and my main one would be playing her favorite PS2 game(s) on the PS3. Is there USB ports for the microphones so that we can play Karaoke Revolution on the PS3? If she can't play that, than I'm in for more of a battle than I'm hoping. I recently found a copy of Midway Collection 2 for the PS1 (with Burgertime!) and my wife loves that game... it would be nice to know that it works on the PS3 but this one is less of a selling point but would be a bonus regardless. Lastly... I have a couple TVs in the house and they both accept component inputs (that's what the PS2 is currently hooked up with)... my question is... because I have standard definition TVs will the PS3 look bad? I know that kiosks that have PS3s look nice on the LCD screens and all... just wondering what the PS3 looks like on a standard def TV (with component inputs). Here's to hoping I can get a PS3 soon. Thanks for the help!
Shannon
There are USB ports on the PS3 but I do not know if the microphone will work. I would think that it does. Just don't take my word for it. The PS3 uses the same cables as the PS2. So a PS2 composite or component cable will work on a PS3. Or you can get a standard hi-def cable and use that port. When I first got my PS3 I had it connected with the cable that it comes with. I suppose if Sony includes it then it should look fine. Anyways it didn't seem to have any visual problems the short time I used it. (long enough to configure it, download updates, use the web browser, check out the playstation store, try backward compatibility for PS1 and PS2). MCHufnagel
PS2 component cables are around $10 at most places, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem if you want another set. I've hooked up my Xbox 360 to a SDTV via composite and it looks much better than my PS2/Gamecube/Xbox. I would imagine you would be able to tell the difference with a PS3 also. Gabriel
You know, all weekend I had intended to check that disc for you to make sure it was PS3 compatible, but I never got around to it. With regards to component cables, if you're retiring the PS2, just use it's component cable. It's the same one. That's what I used until I bought a HDMI cable. As for Midway 2 for PS1, it should work. I tested one of those old compilation discs (the one with Paperboy on it, which is frequently listed as being non-working in compatibility lists for the PS2 because that one game doesn't work), and it worked fine. Regarding controllers that plug into the USB ports, I have no idea. But I also wouldn't count on them working.
King_Salamon
Well thanks everyone for the help... I had a wealth of extremely great news on the weekend! My sister-in-law had their TV blow a chip (or something) and as a result they were in the market for a new TV. Yesterday, they found a nice LCD 27 inch HDTV for $550 (Canadian). As they had a budget of $500 for a TV they grabbed this one (the other was a 32 inch Sony Tube TV - HEAVY! which was selling for $399.99) Why do I bring this up? Because the wife saw the TV and was interested in it. I told her that they have a 32 inch model of the same TV for $699.99. She was ready to go to the store and pick one up. We checked online to see which location we would have to go to but they were sold out across town. We are now planning on going to order online and have it shipped to one of the locations and pick it up (no extra fees this way!). Now... the TV is a 32 inch Envision LCD HDTV. It had several inputs including an SVGA input and HDMI input (as well as a couple SVideo, composite and component inputs). Would someone know if this TV is a decent TV for gaming with a PS3? And for watching movies and TV too of course. I went to Envision's website (www.envisiondisplay.com) and checked out the specs but truly I wouldn't know if there is something that missing or is something is bad/good with it. It is model # L32W461 and after reading the specs I did note that the response time is 8ms which I was told anything below 10ms was very good. (My PSP is definitely above the 10ms response rate as I found out in a previous post). Anywho... I'm hoping to hear about some input on this particular TV from you guys and perhaps I will have a new TV and a PS3 in short order and will be able to play against you guys online! Thanks again for all the help!

(So too would the wife!) The disc may end up working but the USB mics may not work is another possibility. I wonder when a PS3 version of Karaoke Revolution will be released? I hear Singstar on the PS3 is supposed to be really good (not like the PS2 version). I may end up retiring the PS2 as it is a launch system and I don't know how much is left in the ol' gal. What cable ships with the PS3? Composite cables? As for the HDMI cable... I take it it is a step up from the Component cables? I figured the PS1 disc should be fine as I am not having any issues with it on the PS2 right now. Now a huge concern... will find out when I get the PS3. Thanks again!
