I'm surprised to hear that you've had a difficult time finding an old Mac. I always see them in the thrift stores. Pretty much everything else has dried up in the thrifts, but I always see old Macintoshes. Same over here, old Macs are quite common and very cheap. I've got two Classics sitting in a back room ready to go to the tip so if there is any hardware I can rip out for you to help get yours "back on the road", just let me know.
